Have never heard anyone I know refer to themselves as queer, gay, homosexual yes. Never had any need to visit that section of a bookshop.

I can understand if some want to describe themselves that way but I have only heard the word queer used by ignorant people who only use it as a slur.

Sorry, I'm a couple of days late but for your edification, that's historically true but it's now generally more likely used in a non-pejorative sense (I guess consider how a lot of African Americans use the N-word, maybe? Not a perfect example but there's a comparison). When LGBT begins to be expanded and is LGBTQ, that Q tends to be for "queer".

As I for a long time tossed up on whether I was gay or bisexual (and who has happily dated women at points in my life), I generally probably go with queer as an easier catch-all and where I don't feel like I need to define myself as something I'm not sure perfectly fits (aside for "not straight"). Given I have a boyfriend I'm happy to use gay to make it easy for other people, but yeah, probably queer if I want to be technical.

The additional issue for Twitter is that probably most of the engagement with those posters are from bots they have themselves set up to boost the post.

It's one thing to post something from a troll farm/Russian intelligence service. Then you have to have bots reacting to it to push it on the people, it's only then that actual real, ordinary MAGAs start seeing it and engaging with it.

Indeed. And because a lot of intelligent, well educated people post here it’s so easy to spot the trolls.

The just asking questions bots stick out a mile. They need to update the algorithm or something because their smug centrist faux intelligent facade comes off like a toddler arguing against bedtime here.

I only wish people didn’t get drawn in at all but I had to learn that lesson for myself.
I don’t put them on automatic ignore because I don’t like what it does to my view of threads, just don’t give them one syllable of response. Treat them like the rest of the pollution out there.

Perhaps the most despicable fallout from all this has been the hijacking of Christianity. Of course it has always been so that people distort wisdom through the lens of their own understanding, or use it for manipulation. But the maga version has it weaponised in a particularly ugly way.
