Logan has a sweet nature. Possibly lacks mongrel/killer instinct.

Doesn't prevent him being a good player (it takes all types) but probably stops him ever being great unless he develops this aspect. Do all the greats (think Leigh Matthews, Luke Hodge, Joel Selwood etc etc) have this hard edge? Even Goodsey was as ruthless as he needed to be, despite not really displaying 'mongrel'.

I'm welcoming the differences of opinion but I'd be glad to hear more about it. You don't think Logan is sweet? You don't think being sweet stops you being a great player? Probably not the latter because I posed that as a question. You don't think Goodsey was as ruthless as he needed to be? I have no idea where the disagreement is but I'm curious.

Logan was injured for a year. He didn't lose talent.
He is a goal kicker. Goal kickers play in the F50.
Until Logan rings me and tells me he wants to be a defender I comsider him a forward.
BTW he does not have my number.
Can i have it

I simply disagree on the good player bit. I think he's a great player in the making. Does he need ruthlessness. Is Gulden sweet or Chad. I think they are. Ive rated him highly. The main impediment has been injury and i think from his comments about the despair and depths he was in he now really wants it. He's matured in so many ways that such a setback provides. He's worked his butt off.
He should be primed for an amazing year.
Was Buddy ruthless. What is ruthless. Is Curnow ruthless. Youve picked out a bunch of ruthless names but surely theres sweet natured champions.

Thanks for clarifying. I'm surprised a few of you see Logan as a great player, or at least destined for greatness. I'm more used to people on this board dissing him and finding myself in the position of defending his place in the team.

I think Logan is a good player who still has plenty of upside. I was expecting him to have a really good season in 2025 which unfortunately didn't come to pass, due to injury. However, I have to say I'm not expecting greatness from him. I don't think he'll ever be a captain. I doubt he'll ever be a legend or champion in our club Hall of Fame (let alone in the AFL). I could see him becoming AA at some stage in his career. I can see him being a stalwart of the club for a long time and a valuable contributor, which he already is in my eyes. (Hopefully that means he's a premiership player to boot one day.)

One reason for my assessment is I have not seen in Logan a ruthless determination to dominate and succeed (which I earlier called "mongrel/killer instinct"), which I do think is a hallmark of champions. Absolutely Buddy had that. So did someone like Nick Smith. So did virtually every leader in our club. There's a degree of selfishness involved - succeeding at the expense of others. A willingness to hurt even your teammates (not gratuitously) because you are demanding success and higher standards. Does Chad have that? Absolutely. I don't see him as sweet at all (which is not to say he doesn't have a sweet side). Errol has an impressive balance of care for his teammates with drive to succeed (which is why he'll be a great captain, as well as a great player) but I don't think I'd want to come between him and what he wants.

Perhaps I'm missing it. Or, perhaps Logan will yet develop that trait. However, right now, personally I think Logan is a sweet guy who works hard, has talent, cares about his teammates, doesn't want to let the team down, strives his best to do the right thing but without much evidence of those harsher qualities, and possibly that 'sweetness' is holding back his on-field success.
