Kuhneman or Murphy for Boxing Day. Both have done the job at test level before. Murphy got worked over a bit on England but at the G should be able to have the advantage. Kuhneman would be a very frustrating bowler to the aggresive top order

If you're going either of these two to replace Lyon you've made a pretty safe bet.

I would take Kuhnemann. Shown a lot more discipline at the top level and not sure Murphy has developed further in that respect.

Kuhnemann is a spud. Murphy at least has some talent but is not test standard yet and may never be.

Kuhnemann if they keep Pope over Bethell, Murphy if they pick Bethell over Pope.

I think Murphy has the edge over Kuhnemann slightly, but maybe not where the 6/8 of the top/middle order bats are all right handers, and the very slight importance of the tail all being right handers too is.

I do think England has some really talented young players. That's atleast a positive. Also I know everyone has been critical of Jofra but he's one of the players that did well I thought. Bowled well given the pitch and batted well in the first innings. But a lot for England to review on their game plans

I can see them winning in Melbourne. It's a slower pitch which should suit them and no Lyon neutralises their poor spinning and id expect starc wont play (he looks exhausted).

Some costly dropped catches by brook in this match. Compared to labs screamer, probably the difference in this match.

Exactly. Brooks dropped 2 regulation (at this level) catches, which cost 140 plus runs. Add to that another 30 plus runs due to the snicko stuff up with Carey in the first innings.

I’m glad they didn’t, but if those moments had gone England’s way, they most likely would have won the test.

Well that's it...AUS win Ashes (again), my thoughts:

1. AUS too good and did the basics right plus with strike bowlers out at various times during this series so far.

2. ENG have not made it easy for themselves. Poor shot selections all series so far, Bazball high risk high reward mentality means they have to play at everything. Poor thinking. AUS didnt do that - just smart cricket.

3. So far this series, ENG their top order hasnt fired collectively and consistently. Not good enough. Can not rely on middle and lower order regularly.

4. ENG - their preperation hasn't been good. One warm up match leading up to the 1st Test in Perth, a warm up game at Lilac Hill against themselves basically.....ENG vs ENG A.

5. All the talk was about how good this ENG team was. They have either underachieved and are not good enough. Bazball batting does not work consistently and the question has to be asked...does a team REALLY need Bazball in order to score runs? I say no.

6. ENG - their fielding, specifically their catching has been bad. So many times we see touring teams to Aust and their fielding/catching isnt good enough. That is the perfect way to take pressure off AUST and the perfect way to apply pressure on themselves.

7. This series says more about ENG than AUS in my opinion. Did ENG come into the Test series thinking it would be easy? Who knows.

We now move onto the 4th Test at the MCG.

Murphy was dreadful filling in for Lyon in the last ashes

I’d be shocked if they just don’t go Webster anyway. His offies are fine with Head.

Sydney different but people have to remember the Syd pitch is not the same as the one in the 1980’s turning square. Quicks get heaps of wickets there
