What do you think a pass mark for Carlton should be in 2026? Should be a top 10 ladder finish followed by at least 1 finals win in my opinion as Cripps, Walsh, Cerra, Hewett, Acres and Smith is a solid midfield unit capable of beating most teams in and around the contest when on song. The forward 50 structure will be different following the loss of Curnow and additions of Hayward and Ainsworth sure it looks weaker on paper but Carlton have been crying out for small/medium forward types and their forward line should be more balanced. Ruck looks weak on paper following the loss of De Koning but Geelong have had a workmanlike ruck division for years and even won a flag with Rhys Stanley as their ruck who is a workmanlike battler type ruckman similar to Marc Pittonet and I can see the new ruck rules helping Pittonet plus they now have Liam Reidy who is a very handy backup to have. Defence should be better with the addition of Florent who should improve rebound and drive from defence while taking pressure off Saad while Dean should slot in nicely alongside Weitering and help Carlton structure up better in defence as they've been crying out for a second key defender for years to help Weitering and take pressure off him. I know plenty of people have Carlton sliding further down the ladder this year but they should finish top 10 at an absolute minimum for them to be given a pass mark for season 2026.

A pass mark would be silencing Fadge.
you shall not pass the lord of the rings GIF

The only result I will accept from Carlton is runner up, losing to Collingwood in a Grand Final where Nick Daicos is awarded the worst free kick ever plus 2x 50 metre penalties to score the winning goal, in an incident so atrocious the UN tries to intervene. (Eddie gets Trump to veto it).

Honestly I reckon the worst result is finishing somewhere around 11th to 15th. No finals, no great pick, just stuck in limbo.

With the top 10 playing finals now, at least coming 10th actually gives you something, even if it’s just a bit more finals exposure for the group.

So yeah aiming for like 8 to 10 feels like a pass mark. But I also don’t think Carlton fans would be too upset with finishing bottom end of the ladder. I can’t really see them being a serious flag threat in 2026, but stranger things have happened.

Nick gets mobbed by a delirious Carlton streaker after taking mark of the year to lift his contested mark tally to 2

They're paying around $4 to make the top 10....

Your password mark doesn't equate with the general view.
Carlton will be taking the Pies spot.

Solid post. I agree.
Even if they finish mid table they just need the points to match Cody Walker, wherever he lands (Expected top 5)

I’m not seeing it with Carlton. They’ve lost so much and they get injuries every year, so if they get a fair amount again, they could so easily slide further.

Gone: Curnow (18 games last year), TDK (22), SOSOS (13), Docherty (15), Motlop (23), Durdin (16)

Gain: Hayward, Ainsworth, Newman, Jagga, Kemp, Dean

So it’s not like it’s a net gain, and if they get significant injuries, especially to McKay, or Pittonet… things could get ugly.

As such, I’d say 10 or more wins (1 more than last season) is a pass.

Very good midfield (albeit very weak in the ruck), very good book-ends, and not a lot else.
