Mega Thread The Port Store Mega Thread Part 2

Imagine a Football Club that wants to engage its younger supporters by playing a game in a one off collectable jumper, in a color that our current women's team wear every second week.
By doing this it will probably profit enough money to assist in one of its Community Support programs or even help pay for some extra coaching.
No lets not do that, lets moan and whinge that PAFC has lost its traditional values.
It might be time a few of the posters on here started to get out of the 80's and show some relevance to what is happening in Australian Rules Football now.
I'll stay in the 80's thanks.

Port were not a submissive AFL managed franchise back then.
The club respected its core business and achieved its goals.

Enjoy being laughed at.

We have now graduated from power stations and lightning, to phone chargers and lithium ion batteries.

Its the style and times man, you use a charger every day - therefore people should think PORTPOWA when charging their devices.

GET FULLY CHARGED FANS OF POWER

Hinkley sides play all games in POWER SAVE MODE so we finish the game with 50% battery instead of 0% because we need the 50% for the trip to angle park. Just plug me into the ol USB C at half time coach

Maybe this is my fault sorry fellas

When I said I wanted more teal in the on field range, I was specifically and exclusively meaning Warren Tredrea commemorative teal socks.

Unfortunately I guess the club interpreted that quite differently.

And the small matter of 16 Grand Finals and 13 premierships in 24 years. But at least the kids of today have varying colourful guernseys to look at every couple of weeks!

Those batteries were always flat around September time
We are those bulging explosive bring down a plane chinese power banks. It was our secret strat that beat the hawks in that final. Hence the aeroplane malarkey.

I like it. In a vacuum I like it. Once off, gather round is a bit of a ****-around for jumpers league wide. It's for zoomers with borrowed nostalgia for the unremembered 2000s.

The jumper itself is a good mix of teal and black, I like the balance. It's probably the best looking majority teal strip we've put out. The teal is a bit blue but whatever man it's teal. It's bad brand management or whatever but it's such a fugazi colour you can just make it more blue, no bother.

Bit of a kick in the teeth, the vague mention of fan demand - clearly the 5-10 throwaway comments on anything Port on social media containing an old teal bit of gear outweighs the gargantuan grassroots campaign ran for the jumper we wore for a century. Cue well and truly in the rack with that one, on the club's end.

That's what sucks, not this particular bit of cloth but the insecurity around our image and the feeling that we're veering away from our strong traditional image every time we do this, which is every year. Every year we dedicate an equal number of matches to the most distinctly 'Port Adelaide' thing about this whole enterprise as we do some thing like this which means and celebrates nothing (04 throwback, granted).

Feel like the most we can expect around PB marketing this year will be a couple of Rooch articles on the website that no one will read. Cue, rack.

Welp I'll be that guy

If it's a once off gather round deal, with black shorts and socks...

I reckon it looks pretty good. And will look better on gameday too.

and it will sell like hotcakes.
Going early with this call: the long sleeve one will sit on the sale rack at the Port Store for 3 years

The jumper is actually fine. It's the telling us that we were all gagging for it that is most annoying.

Unpopular opinion in these forums but I like it. It's certainly not winning any awards and I wouldn't exactly advocate for it as a regular jumper, but for gather round it's completely fine.

It especially pairs well with the black shorts. While I'm normally a fan of the white number plate out of my bias for the prison bars I think this particular guernsey will work better without it.

I thought the training top was pretty ugly though. A teal V on a teal jumper just looks goofy and takes me back to the day of those Planet Teal kids designed guernseys (And even then that's somewhat unfair to the Planet Teal guernseys because not all of them were that bad) Thankfully in this case it's just the training top.

I'm not anti-teal like some of the other old heads on here are, but that doesn't mean there aren't valid criticisms of these more modern designs. I'm especially perplexed at the inconsistency of the "teal" itself. Nowadays is ranges anywhere from a Day Blue to Aqua to Toothpaste and anything in-between.

This is a completely reasonable grievance

Any professional organisation should have a style guide and stick to it in a regimented way.

Define the teal, categorically, and stick to it.

The same club that accepted that moving into the AFL and not becoming irrelevant, was worth the price of assuming a new colour and identity?

Cant have your argument both ways.

Teals part of our identity, and has been for 20% of the existence of our club now. Nothing wrong with it. Have a preference for using it sparingly, dont like it fair enough, hate the modern commercialisation fair enough, but its existence is not a blight on our club, it stands for exactly the opposite, it stands for the bravery and progressive thinking of our club in the exact era you're talking about.

Teal sucks and it’s just a reminder of the lack of success this club has achieved with it.

The one premiership we have one in the AFL was built around a core group of players who grew up supporting and playing in… you guessed it the black and white. I miss the ruthless club.

I’m so over the “supporters” who suck up to the club.

Happy clappers can bugger off.

Rant over.
