Preview R2: Changes vs. Western Bulldogs

Very annoying game by Bond, he is tough and win the hard ball and then did a few horrible kicks after winning the ball. Might improve with more experience otherwise won't have an AFL career as a defender.
Hes clearly tried to add a bit more run and dash to his game, he's just not quite there. Did fine on the defensive end though

I want to keep Bond in because he had a number of good/solid moments and a number of absolute shockers which could be first game back/inexperience/nerves ect. The best thing for him and us long term is to see if he can figure it out or not. He needs more than one game to do that. If he gets dropped for those errors I’d worry that it makes him more nervy next time he comes in. Taking him out and reshuffling our structure around it to get Rankin in sends a pretty dire message to him.

Unfortunately someone has to come out for Rankin though. It’s a shit sandwich for whoever does.

Extra tough in the fact that both he and Pedlar showed they can play finals footy which is what we should be focusing on. Not week to week fluctuations.

T Murray out for me

Stretch takes 100% centre bounces and takes a rest during general play - RT can spend 20% game time rucking in general play

Love Pedlar and his pre-season but with his performance his in the edge

Bond must play - dogs have a few crafty ground level forwards that need to be attended too

So the way I see it, itll be Rankine for someone and thats it. You could make a claim that a few guys weren't at their best and could make way but its likely to be the one change.

With that in mind there's a few it could be, and some would require a structure change which we dont typically do.

Soligo - Looked short of a gallop last night. Wasn't awful but wasnt great either

Laird - Won't happen but at times he was borderline comical. When he actually decided to move the ball quickly he looked fine, but its a worry.

TMurray - nothing bar those 2 Thilthorpe clearances (who needs pornhub) changed my mind on the 4 talls. Would be tough to drop a first gamer who didnt do too much wrong, but i just dunno. This would require a structure change, and it would be a surprise if we did it.

Bond - Building a bit more offense into his game and made some bad mistakes, but defensively pretty sound. Would require a slight reshuffle rather than a full structure shift.

Pedlar - Looks like a man whos lost his role with the injured guys coming back in, and with a superstar coming back in he might be the man to miss.

In short.... who knows. We might even make more than 1 change off a 6 day break into another one but that might happen next week.

I think people are being a little harsh on Muzz jnr, but obviously Nicks doesn’t trust him and you can’t carry a guy on 32% game time.

I think the plan for the season needs to be that we rest Tex every 4-5 (maybe more in the back half of the season) and replace him with Turray.

Give Toby heavy minutes in the ruck to give Stretch a reprieve
I reckon he was selected purely on Thilthorpe having a sore back and us needing someone to chop out McAndrew who can't (yet) carry a ruck load like ROB. With the extra man on the bench we can probably play around with those kinda things a bit more than we would do previously.

Drop Toby after 1 game 🤣
Debut at the G in a great win against the Pies, oh sorry Toby you needed to be Max Gawn like.
Let's give him an actual chance to settle.

Its not about him needing to be Max Gawn, thats a typically hyperbolic response from you.

Its about us actually needing him to play at all.

I’m concerned a structural change that involves swapping Rankine for T Murray means English will run McAndrew off his feet.

Yeah that is possible, and Rankine in means we have another midfield number against their armada of gun mids.

I suspect itll be Pedlar which would be unlucky for Luke given his promising summer.... but Izak is Izak.

Sorry my post wasn't something you could agree with then make it sound like your someone half important.

Murray was a structural selection, not sure they bin it after one game. Rankine for Pedlar straight swap or maybe for Bond with wingpeople covering half back rotation.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Laird is good at what he does, but I don’t reckon it makes us an overall better side. But lock him in for every game less a rest or two.

His debut was one of the worst debuts in club history.

32% TOG, 7 hitouts, 2 disposals, 2 clangers. Dropped an easy mark in the 4th quarter, fumbly all day. Did not do one thing right all game.

We all knew he was a bad selection. I thought he was gonna have a bad day. I even predicted it (not as bad as he ended up having) below.

Once again - I would love to be sitting here eating humble pie next week, but just get the feeling TMurray will have 60% TOG, 7 possessions and 14 hit outs and be dropped for Rd 2.

When our boards resident idiot laughed at this post - I should have double downed. Toby then went on to have 2 possessions, 7 hitouts, and 32% TOG.

, I'm now leaning towards playing T Murray.

When he said this I should have tripled down.

I think the best thing our club could do would be to hire Kane. Then just do the exact opposite of what he suggests.

It was one of the worst debuts of all time. 2 possessions, 2 clangers, dropped marks, fumbled it 4 times. He was ddominated at every level.

He was so bad they just sat him on the pine for 3/4 of the game.
