Unofficial Preview Changes & pre match discussion vs West Coast - Round 2, 2026

There’s only at this moment for 2 changes
1 this week in Hardeham for McDonald
2 the Essendon game Wardlaw in for Kanstanky
Wacky spelling aside, that kinda makes sense to me.

There’s not really a particular dangerous WC forward we need Lmac to lockdown. Playing at home should inspire Riley.

Would be surprised if Clarko will make Spargo wait until the GF game for a debut tho. Every other trade target comes in right away.

We've got a bye haven't we?
Yes unfortunately. l would still give him another week and then see if he is right to still play against the Bombers the week after. Also it will see if all the players who are playing this week will justify their place after the Weagles game or not and maybe someone might make way for him to play.

Wont happen though bring Hardes in for McDonald for his hometown game.

Modern game needs speed and quick ball movement which is why we have sucked in transition for years.

Longterm, I can only see adding Hardes over McDonald as a major improving step towards fixing this shit stat.

Kerch and Daniels push higher up the ground. Oppo fwds tend to bounce right off a Kerch and Daniels tackle unlike General Parker.
We rushed Mcondald in. They could make the decision to give him a week without travel and play Hardeman. I think there is a place for Hardeman Mcdonald and Blamires the following week. Not sure who makes way or how.

Eagles played three talls most of the time on the weekend, plus Waterman. Chom, Logue and Pink will need to take the talls.

LMac will have to take Waterman. No chance he's dropped.

Just sayin' (again), prepare for Hardeman for Blamires.

I think they played 3 talls inc waterman (an odd choice given the conditions).

Logue was given Georgeiadies, who is a leading player. Waterman is a leading player and will be manned by Logue I’d think. Pink would take the next best, and Chom will take the next.

They’ll be doing all they can to negate Chom. I still remember darling sacrificing his game in that shocker in Hobart from 2024.

They may have rushed him, but Luke was very good. And I’m one of his biggest critics.

We won by nearly 8 goals. How many changes should we make?
Is it possible for us to field a better side next week? As many as it takes to do that. Even if you're the best team in the league you should still be looking for any way to improve that you can find. Resting on your laurels and saying "yeah we won, no need to make any tough calls" isn't how you improve. If you want there to be real pressure on players to perform, just being in a team that won shouldn't be enough to keep your spot.

Out: Daniel
In: Hardeman

Feels like a simple decision....

Perfect summation of Daniels game in the Daniels Thread by HugeJohnson1
It's not going to happen, is the only issue with this. And anyway, Caleb doesn't deserve an omission after that first quarter. He tapered off big time but you should only be dropped after shit games, not ok ones

I'm of the belief that the trips will do this young group well.

Particularly, playing AFL footy in the open air and varying conditions. It was no surprise to me we had a great game round 1 under the roof, after winning a 4Q battle in wet conditions the week before.

You learn a lot about yourself in a fight, and I don't think being a "great under perfect conditions" team suits us at all.

I'll say it again, the Dogs in 2016 are the only team to win a grand final playing out of Docklands since they built the place.

I might have Joe Mazulla on the brain, but I'd be screening The Warriors to the boys on the trip over. Lean into it.

Thought Wardlaw was next to no chance Given the trip to Perth and essentially not having any match practice as missed intra game, both pre season games and no VFL.

However, Clarkos press conference strongly suggests he will be in and playing managed midfield minutes… strange considering 6 day break the following week and our midfield looked pretty balanced.

In saying that, if we can get a midfield rotation of Xerri, Ldu, Sheezel, Fos, Wardlaw with Kerch and Powell having small stints in there, very exciting.

If Wardlaw is playing, I do wonder if they'll rest McKercher instead?

He was on a minutes restriction in round 1 and came into the season a little underdone.

I'd prefer he plays, but I do wonder if that's a possibility.

Clarko made it sound more likely that Kerch will have increased time this week because they wanted to ease him into it last week.
