Disappointing to see Young is out but I think we'll be fine, we have the guys to deal with Melbourne, Richmond and I'd argue even Adelaide.

Would prefer he's back for Collingwood, but not much we can do now.

Young hurts man. Forget this week. His hammies are huge in the Docker's premeirship and dynasty hopes.

A mates dog just told me Ryan had a dose of covid last week. Secondhand information not sure if it's true or not.
Quartermaine on his podcast with COD over on YT stated Ryan had had 'Covid'. So it's true in as far as he was ill with something that they've labelled as 'Covid'. Not sure what that means in terms of isolation/contact with others and if there was any spread, as no one has been reported as ill. Yet

Don’t get the criticism of strength and conditioning ?
Players were still running. The issue always has been strength inside midfield and partially off half back.
It comes from nightmares over Weber, who came here from rugby and decided we needed to boost our power and strength and then proceeded to destroy the club. One of the great mysteries to keep him around for so long.

When Beard (Director of Performance) and Lumley (Head of S&C) also have primary backgrounds in rugby and are giving similar messaging as Weber, then I can't help but worry about history repeating.

Weber's history was Reds to Waratahs to Wallabies to Dockers. So he was just a full on rugby man. Hopefully these guys are more nuanced. Beard has at least been with us for a few years and has some athletics and institute of sport stuff in his background (as does Lumley). Beard also has NFL (Browns) and MLB (Cubs), but I would consider that fairly useless for AFL conditioning, although the general management of a professional outfit could be useful.

The dichotomy when it comes to players and injuries.

On the one hand you have players getting injured and supporters expecting to rush them back in asap or those coming back from long term injuries to get them back in rather than trying to build up their fitness at peel or not rushing them back too early. Then when the player gets injured again they say what a bad selection bringing them in under done or too soon and getting re injured

JL says it's not the surgery hammy for Young, and they're hoping it's only 1-2 weeks
Hope he's right; definitely need to take the time to get Young right as another lost season would mean, well, another lost season potentially. And an albatross contract.

Unfortunately Hayden Young is not much different to Will Day.
You can’t build a team around guys like this.
They tease and tease you for ever but the bottom line is they cannot be relied upon to consistently play in high pressure games weeks in week out for extended periods.

We have got about 6 or 7 of these types guys on our list, it’s the same old faces year in year out I don’t even have to name them. You all know who they are. Half of them are already on the treatment table and it’s only round 2.

You can set your clock on it at the start of every season that they will collectively be underdone or missing for a large number of games.

Young just about didn't miss a game for 3 seasons straight (I think he missed one game in 2023?), so he certainly has potential to be healthy and has been for long periods of time. He's not yet one to write off IMO 🤞

He did a major injury in his first season
And his second.
And then played 3 seasons straight with a single game missed in total unless I've miscounted (which is always a possibility!).
So he's demonstrated previously that he can be healthy for extended periods of time, and can come back from significant injury to be available for long periods. Crossing fingers this is just a blip and he's able to do so this season (and preferably the next 2-7 seasons too)!
