There’s an intrinsic cadence to Matt Hill’s commentary that comes from his race calling background that just doesn’t translate to AFL.

There’s nothing actually wrong with him but I find it off putting

I don’t particularly like Leigh Montagna on special comments, but his play calling is reasonable

Lessons for us - stop Sydneys run and apply enough pressure to force the long. For me the indicator was that the lizard was negated - his run droves alot of Sydneys momentum. Can Cox coach, propbably can but he was out coached. At the least his players folded under pressure

Is the world leading expert in calling the wrong name while someone else is taking a huge pack mark. It's like he has no idea how things will possibly play out and just lucky dips a player in the vicinity. Genuine chance to bottle a mark of the year about as badly as possible.

Watching at the ground- that first quarter was played at quite a frenetic pace. It wasn’t necessarily surprising to see the second quarter be a bit more of a slog.

Overall though, a great game watching live I thought.

It did though highlight the challenges we will face as the year goes on and our younger bodies start to tire- teams can get run ons so quickly when they get on top. There is already a significant gulf between the top 8 and the rest and I think as the year goes on the sides with good depth will do better.

The AFL really has to do something about these rolling mauls- it’s either high scoring basketball-lite or rugby at the minute.
