Blues supporter coming in peace (and depression). How much do you guys reckon you’d realistically be willing to pay to bring Patrick Cripps home?
That ship has well and truly sailed I would have thought.

I understand that times change so perhaps older examples are less relevant, but maybe you're too young to remember Jackovich... and McIntosh?

I actually think that keeping Shanahan forward is best, but we have quite a history of finding outstanding KPDs from forwards.
Agree with what you're saying here. The reality is we don't really know which is the best option yet, he plays exceptionally well at either end of the ground and we're still very much in the midst of shaping our best 22.

Leaving him forward is absolutely the sexiest option so I can understand people's apprehension towards moving him back. Doesn't necessarily make it the right option in the long run though, too much remains to be seen. It's nice to see him play swingman this year and thrive though. Best of both worlds. If I had my choice I'd also love to see him permanently forward, we just don't have the tall coverage down back to do that yet. He's shaping as a future club legend either way.

We’ll take him and your future first (Given we know you need your firsts for Walker), you also pay 50% of his salary. Oh. You also take Owies back.

I’d have thought so too - but maybe it’d be nice to have another big body to protect Harley, given Elliott Yeo’s body being somewhat unreliable? Cripps is slowing but he’s still played every game for the past three seasons.

(But yes I can also believe he’s past the point where we get anything meaningful for him)

In all seriousness by the end of this season he’s likely done, or carrying negative value given what I expect is a high salary for the last year of his contract. The game has moved past him.

I think we'd prioritize Lachie Neale first TBH.

I'll say this. If we somehow ended up with him, it would surely have to be a token sum back to you. So agree with you on that.

Sorry about Chesser, btw. I had hoped he would come good for us, not to be.

Something like a future 3rd rounder, or some player who isnt going to get a shot for us.
Think a Harvey Johnston type

The only way I see West Coast taking him would be as an unrestricted free agent after 2027, and then it would likely be on a severely reduced contract as a player/coach supporting and mentoring role, rather than a key first team contributor.

In which case it's unlikely Carlton would receive anything from his departure.

Went to both the Bendigo Pioneers game and the Sandringham Dragons game today.
There is a sizeable difference in quality between Cody Walker and Arki Butler IMO.
If we can jump up a few rungs this year it is the opportune time not to try and pick an elite mid this year.
Early days in this years draft, many felt this about Duursma this time last year, but yeah it does look like there’s a clear top 2 that even pick 1 won’t be able to get.

If what you are saying occurs, and we do rise (I.e not bottom 5) I hope that we go tall with our first pick (Ruck or KPD). These are our biggest gaps, not young mids and they take the longest to develop.

Harley, durz, hewett, add Warner - we honestly might be okay for mids if Robertson can do a job or Allan/hall come on as IMs.

Surely no one actually said this?

What did we end up playing for Sam Mitchell as a playing coach?

Blues missed the boat there.

Even my wife noticed how slow he was and looked sore.

FYI Conligio is an UFA this year if a team needs a mature mid.

That doesn't help Cripps trade value.

If he needs to head west we absolutely must get ourselves into a position not to lose that battle (Freo will go hard at him of course).

He’s still elite, looks a coach in waiting, and can no doubt play a small forward rotating into mid role if needed to prolong his career. A 1+3 or 2+2 playing/coaching role is an absolute no brainer. With the caveat that his wage needs to be mostly paid in 2027 (to allow our free agent chase at the end of the year)

I’ve skipped a few pages so please forgive if this has already been said… Hasn’t Jobe in the past pointed to defence being his best position? Wouldn’t it be wise to play our best players in any of the positions they can play A grade footy without a stubborn assertions around whether player X should or shouldn’t be a forward for instance?

FWIW Jobe reminds me of young David Neitz, a gun at either end of the ground who, I haven’t checked this, may have gone AA as a defender and a forward

Geez I went and saw Hewett play very underwhelming and body language from the start was poor.
Really hope he can turn it around, thinking half fwd might be his go now
