Dean went into palliative care yesterday. They're hoping he gets a chance to watch the game tomorrow.
Oh no 😢... it would be remarkably cruel injustice if TOD doesn't get the opportunity to see what the roo boys did yesterday. He would be so proud.

Thanks for keeping us informed ferbs.

Deano would’ve been as drunk and happy in celebration mode yesterday as anyone, if he were able to attend. He would’ve been slinging one liners at the Blues fans as they wandered up the aisles as Simpkin’s sealer went through and would’ve told us all about it in humorous fashion for years, just as he regaled after the last game he attended with Lidge v Collingwood when we won that nailbiter with the dodgy centre bounce.

I hope you get to see the game TOD and I hope it makes you smile.

This really is sad news. I think we were all hoping that it was caught early enough to be successfully treated, but at the same time feared the other outcome.

Like many long-time posters here, I was fortunate enough to meet Dean a few times and he is very much the brilliant, humble man that others have described. Understated but clearly enormous intellect, inclusive of encyclopaedic knowledge of various music genres.

Some of you won't be aware of this, but Dean also co-authored a book, Once Were Sharps, a local history of The Thomastown Sharpies in the 70s. It's a ripping read.

Good post LtK. I was lucky enough to have a beer with ToD a few times, one time he was happy to explain the background to the sharpies to someone who knew less than nothing about the topic (i.e. me).

I was overseas when the anti Gold Coast movement took off. I very much had the impression that he knew what he was doing.

Before it got hijacked by HR departments, Dean was the OG of inclusion. Easy to get along with if you were a North fan.

like everyone else, thoughts are often with ToD and McGooley. Am hoping you got to watch yesterdays game. Thanks for the update Ferball.

Your positivity and outlook on life has helped me on my cancer journey over the past 6 months, thankyou to you both.

We've lost a true shinboner. Love to Deb and Finn.

We certainly have. Can’t believe it.

I loved when we’d catch up at Arden St or at a game (or “Inner Scrotum” dinner). A whole group of us caught up at Arden St in the wake of Lidge’s passing.

I’ve lost count of the many nights Deano and I would chat on here, both being night owls and mods. It was always humorous.

He was one of the great wordsmiths Dean, with a wit and intelligence that belied his appearance.

BF has lost a great man. Deb and Finn have lost their world.

VALE Deano.

Love and thoughts to Deb and “the Finnster”, who Dean was so proud of.

Incredibly sad.

This is devastating.

I’ve been thinking of TOD a lot lately. I don’t know why, I just have.

I never got to meet him in person, I wasn’t as fortunate as a lot of you were. But I had such an admiration and appreciation for him. For what he did for our footy Club and who he clearly was as a person.

Like a few of you have mentioned, TOD went out of his way to ship a Roosistence poster (that now proudly sits in my office) and some merch overseas to me. He seemed stoked to be spreading the tentacles of the movement far and wide.

A part of our Club has died with his departure. But because of him, the North Melbourne Football Club will live on.

Vale Dean. Thanks for everything. You’ll never be forgotten.
