Hey guys, saints fan here. I'm so sorry to hear the horrible news about Dawson and his family. We are hoping for the best outcome, and knowing what you guys went through with Walsh the crows will wrap their arms around Jordan and his family. You guys are a very resilient group.

Yeah its a very minor procedure.
Depends if it was a cardio aversion or ablation. Neither are open heart surgery but an ablation is still done under twilight drugs and either up through groin or wrist. Takes a bit longer than a couple of days to get over. Always a danger of a bleed or clot from that. Aversions don’t always work either so that may still have to do something more.

How far realistically away is Draper?
Is the expectation we wait until he tears a game apart in the SANFL before we bring him in? Given his high talent, his experience already at SANFL level, I would be more inclined to get games into him at AFL level, not sure how much he is going to gain at SANFL.

Don't think he's far away but could be in this week if Dawson remains down the coast with his family

I'd have him in this week, owing to opportunity. I think if we were looking to get Draper fully right though, probably another fortnight? Seems like the game/confidence in his body is coming back (there were a lot more explosive plays against the Eagles) but it's not fully there yet.

While I get that train of thought and it makes sense, if its a choice between a fully fit Jones or an underperforming Draper I will back Draper in, on the proviso obviously that he is physically ready to go.

Out:
Dawson (personal)
Soligo (injured / managed)
Hinge (injured)
Borlase (omitted)

In:
Edwards
Dowling
Bond
Butts
Would go similar, but Pedlar for Bond.

Nankervis covers Hinge & we need all the midfielder/forward options losing Dawson.

Either that or Soligo remains in instead of Pedlar.

absolutely no Daws :cry::cry::cryv1:

How does the rest of the team manage this?

I think we'll struggle badly.
The team could also rally around him and lift to a new level.

I remember Jarrad McVeigh missing a game down in Geelong due to the death of his newborn, and the Swans were able to galvanise and knock off the Cats down there giving them their first home loss for years (I think this was in 2011).

I think they’ll manage to compartmentalise it. He will be with his family and all the group can do is call/text etc. and provide as much support as they can without being there physically (unless a few of his closer mates travel there).

I’m sure the leaders will step up and keep as much focus as possible on the weekend. And potentially a debutant (Edwards?) will be a boost.

I'm not really going to be surprised nor critisise the team much either way this weekend. I'll also be more lenient on selection than usual when it comes to the young guys this week. Like yeah it could galvanise the group, but it's also a pretty young squad.
