What’s the worst that will happen if we lost two rucks sometime during this season ?

Instead of sucking balls we suck worse? .. and get a higher draft pick?

Oh no.
That is just spazo, loser, defeatest thinking.

Worse than that is we stupidly decide to make Whitlock our replacement ruckmen and in a game he ruptures both his ACL and PCL and he is out for 2 years or more.

we have never been the club to draft someone and only keep them for 6 months, IIRC we have never delisted a MSD pick after 6 months. Imo we have higher priorities then a ruckman to play SANFL for half a year then get delisted.

We have Moss who has been playing second ruck in the SANFL if the worst case scenario happened where both sweet and Vis go down. Even Esava could cover, not saying it’s ideal but we could make do.

I’m of the View that we are better off getting Marcus Herbert and Louie Montgomery over a Caleb May or Van wyk, then waiting til the end of the year to either get Dodson or draft a young ruckman.
Time to think differently then.

In the worse case scenario we stupidly make Whitlock the main replacement ruck and he gets a serious injury like the one I outlined in my previous post.

Ratagolea and Moss would ruck before Whitlock imo.
But what about the coaches? You trust them to make that call? The Rat has a dodgy knee.

Yes because when we field a 3rd in line msd pickup ruck in this theoretical 2 rucks injured scenario everyone will recognise us as the winners we our on our way to … what ? 14th place ?

Like how is it defeatist ? You think we’re gonna make finals ? You think we’re a solid ruckman away from that ?

We’re having a losing season regardless of what happens regarding ruck health this season.

How is not wanting to add another list clogger in a position we’re already stocked in guys just barely above list clogging status being defeatist?

What you’re proposing is we take out insurance on our Daewoo lanos.

You want draft picks. I want our mid field to be competitive.

Look what happens when Wines goes into ruck. You want Butters to stay, then don't put a side on the field that is going to get belted by 10+ goals each week because we give the oppo a huge advantage in the middle.

The possibility that we lose both rucks this season for an amount of time and draft a ruck in the msd who is instantly competitive in the ruck and we’re therefore competitive and it changes butters from gone to staying is just so wildly unlikely. Putting a poster of Sydney Sweeney in the club rooms is just as likely to sway butter’s decision.

Several rucks have been taken mid season draft and are a lot more competitive than rucking Wines. That's all they have to be, - competitive, not great.

I want to keep Butters, being competitive in the worst case scenario is a mindset that may help keep him rather than a give up attitude. As I said in my first post, why do we have 2 picks in the MSD? Use one of them to replace the reason why we have them.

1 pick should and must be a ruck. Pretty simple.

I'm sure at the start of the season or when soldo was injured, Port and Carr weren't too worried about another ruck. But since playing both Sweet and Vis every game, it's now a bit of a need especially because they are both playing every game currently. All it takes is a bad luck game and both become injured then we are up shit Creek.

And as I've stated plenty of times prior, Carr and the team aren't losing games intentionally or trying to tank in any way. It's very bloody obvious that they are there to win and play finals and go from there. It's obvious that Carr and co are trying to install again, "We exist to win premierships" and it appears that players and the whole group and club are buying into it. They know they have injuries and to players they would of wanted out there from round 1 and considering all of that, and the new system and even having what would be deemed one of the smaller defence backlines in the league currently, they are ranked 4th (from memory).

In no way does any player or coach want to lose or just "try" and do their best but instead WIN and compete every game for the clubs sake, for the players sake, for the supporters sake and also for players like Butters..

Long story short. They need a ruck and there's no harm in getting the best one available in the MSD even if they may play in the 2s OR perhaps play in the 23 squad and one of Sweet or Vis come out. Would be ideal to get a different style ruck too because both Sweet and Vis are fairly similar.

Dees have a spot in the MSD: NARRM Football Club ruck Tom Campbell has chosen to retire from AFL football, bringing to a close a 14-year career across Melbourne, the Western Bulldogs, North Melbourne and St Kilda.
The decision follows the 34-year-old suffering a torn ligament in his neck after a collision in January, which ruled him out for the 2026 season.

We must and will pick up a ruckman. In the future the current rules as they are the better sides will play 2 rucks that can ruck.

List management will have 4 rucks on the list in future.

2 options.

1. Flynn Riley (Carlton VFL)

22 years old, 206cm left-footer.

He is considered a ready-made option with the structural frame to withstand senior AFL contests right away. He won Carlton's VFL coaches' award after averaging 22.4 hit-outs and 14.3 disposals per game.

Exceptional follow-up work at ground level, strong overhead marking, and a proven ability to drift forward and hit the scoreboard.

The Melbourne Football Club has heavily circled him, scheduling a medical to address their immediate ruck depth following Tom Campbell’s impending retirement.

2. Max Mapley (Tasmania VFL)

21 years old, 202cm mobile tall.

Rated by several state-league analysts as the most dynamic and versatile ruck prospect in the current mid-season pool.

Plays with a rare athletic profile that draws stylistic comparisons to West Coast's Luke Jackson. He features a massive leap, great ground-level agility, and highly clean ball-handling skills that make him incredibly difficult for traditional rucks to match up on.

He has been heavily interviewed by multiple AFL clubs seeking modern, ground-covering utility rucks.

Wow he really played for all 4 Vic teams that shouldn't exist.

If we needed a Ruckman so bad then why didn’t we take one at the start of the season in the SSP? We had a spot left over then to take someone but didn’t.

That is a very good point. I can only think that they were prepared to wait knowing that if another ruck was to go down they could pick up someone in the MSD.

If our options are Caleb May and Alex Van Wyk I'd rather not draft a ruckman.

The only one that's got me intrigued as a ruck prospect for MSD is Ajang Kuol Mun.

Can this good fella nominate for the MSD? Would have been handy for 16+ pts with him in the side I reckon
