2nds WWT Eagles vs Port Adelaide - Round 3 @ Woodville

Decent first half by the Maggies, but I suspect the difference in body size between many of them and their wwt opponents will unfortunately wear them down later in the game.

2nds WWT Eagles vs Port Adelaide - Round 3 @ Woodville

Only a few short weeks ago the Maggies had arguably one of the strongest line ups they had put on the park for a couple of seasons, but that team playing at Woodville on Sunday unfortunately has a very real chance of copping a 10 goal plus smacking. :(

2nds West Adelaide vs Port Adelaide - Round 2 @ Waikerie

It was definitely against the blue baggers, and I thought Koutafides was his direct oppo at the time.

2nds West Adelaide vs Port Adelaide - Round 2 @ Waikerie

I too am no great fan of 2H whose main claim to fame is probably that enormous goal he scored when his immediate opponent was Koutafides, but that was years ago and it's arguably fair to say his overall career was very disappointing. His chances of getting the Maggie's coaching gig would have...

2nds Glenelg vs Port Adelaide - Round 1 @ Glenelg

Agreed, when the Maggies won their 6 flags in a row their magoos won 5, with a number of interchangeable players from that era playing in multiple flags in both comps. During the Cahill era the ressies were usually strong as well, and from memory won at least 2 or 3 flags in the 1970's and...

2nds North Adelaide vs Port Adelaide - Trial Match 1 @ Thebarton

That could be the strongest Maggie's line up for quite some time, the best 4 or 5 top ups are decent sanfl players and if the 4 new draftees are up to sanfl standard at this early stage of their careers ( they all showed something in the trial matches to at least suggest they could be) and with...

    SANFL List Management 2023-24

From memory that reserve's team contained a lot of Academy players during the brisvegas seed thrower's time at the club, and you are right they were copping regular horrendous cricket score size smackings from most other clubs' magoos line ups! You may know the answer to this, but I can't...

    SANFL List Management 2023-24

That has been a problem since virtually day one of the current sanfl set up, where unfortunately too many blokes who have worn the PB's in recent times wouldn't have lasted one training session under Fos Williams or Jack Cahill, or more likely wouldn't have been invited to train in the first...

    SANFL List Management 2023-24

My memories of Wally are from when I was 9 or 10 years old in the late 1950's and of him being an exceptionally accurate set shot for goal, and unless my memory is failing me his preferred kicking style for those set shots was usually an immaculate drop kick.

MVP SANFL 2023 Magarey Medal Count

Agreed, Matt Thomas was another very average player to `win' the Magarey, I doubt he would have won the magoo's version of it back when it was a genuinely strong competition, and as you suggest the recipients in the last 25 years just don't belong on the same list as champions like Ebert...

2nds Centrals vs Port Adelaide - Elimination Final @ Adelaide Oval

...PAFC for generations is tied to the eagles. Even the sons of past players who grew up in the original Port zone have to play their junior footy there, and the west coast of SA now belongs to nord, so it's hard not to believe the snafl weren't taking the p*ss big time with that...

2nds Centrals vs Port Adelaide - Elimination Final @ Adelaide Oval

I watched the 2nd half of the tingles v blue baggers game and as difficult as it is to say this the Maggies wouldn't have got within 7 or 8 goals of either team, and even if they had won today's elimination final next week against the blue baggers would have almost certainly been a smashing...

2nds Centrals vs Port Adelaide - Round 18 @ Elizabeth

...other clubs can offer him multiple times more than the PAFC are allowed, and they are gone the next season. Giving up both zones was a monumental c*ck up, genuine Port Adelaide people are very thin on the ground for the Maggies, and if eg a Russell Ebert mark 2 was born in Queens St Alberton...

2nds Centrals vs Port Adelaide - Round 18 @ Elizabeth

...McCormack was going to play the bagpipes for the North Gawler drum and fife band today but decided to ditch the tartan kilt and put on the footy boots instead, and then he justified that decision by having two more hit outs than the total of two AFL listed players combined. Senf**kensational!

2nds Crows vs Port Adelaide - Round 15 @ Adelaide Oval

I was out for most of the day and only checked this thread occasionally and obviously he had plenty of mates who were also down today, but geez we need Sinn to have a big preseason and hit the ground running in 2024.

Top effort from the Maggies, there has been significant improvement since the last game against the chooks. :thumbsu:

2nds WWT Eagles vs Yartapuulti - Round 12 @ Woodville

Didn't see any of it but that sounds like a strong win by the Maggies, and keeping the eagles scoreless in the last qtr on their own dung hill has to add a big plus to the result, it will be interesting to hear from those that attended the game who they thought set the win up for us.

2nds Yartapuulti vs West Adelaide - Round 11 @ Alberton

Go the Maggies, a win is obviously better than losing particularly when the game is played at Alberton!

2nds Norwood vs Port Adelaide - Round 10 @ The Parade

I can't recall anything about Koch and Thomas wanting to retain our involvement in the SANFL under age competitions pieman and have been under the impression a major part of the one club agreement was that we always had to give up our zones which made it virtually impossible to field under age...

2nds Norwood vs Port Adelaide - Round 10 @ The Parade

I believe nord were given our country zone (the west coast of SA) as part of the one club deal, and what a kick in the guts that was for locals who have supported Port for generations, and Woodville West Torrens got our traditional suburban zone.

2nds Norwood vs Port Adelaide - Round 10 @ The Parade

Max James was another senior premiership player who played a fair bit of magoo's footy in the early 70's, I can recall him kicking two enormous goals in the same qtr on the run, and from well outside what is now the 50 metre line at the bowling green end of Alberton.

2nds Norwood vs Port Adelaide - Round 10 @ The Parade

Yep, apart from 1974 and 75 when I was talked into making a come back in the Glenelg/South comp my saturday morning routine for years was to watch the ressies on tv until about half way through the 2nd qtr, and then depending on where the game was played usually arrive at the ground early in the...

2nds Norwood vs Port Adelaide - Round 10 @ The Parade

The scumps had sfa to do with that result, the nord players were up for the contest and we weren't, there were way too many weak and pathetic efforts from numerous players wearing black and white and quite a few are unfortunately AFL listed. As for Jonas, the bloke has clearly played at least...

2nds Norwood vs Port Adelaide - Round 10 @ The Parade

I saw Phil on the parade about 5 or 6 years ago when he obviously needed help to get out of a car and when he did he used a cane to walk, so I'm wondering if he was propped up by by something in that pic with Stephen Williams and its been photoshopped out.

2nds Norwood vs Port Adelaide - Round 10 @ The Parade

Assuming Tom Jonas plays for the Maggies on saturday I suspect it may be the first time he has represented an oppo team on his old dung hill.

2nds Port Adelaide vs South Adelaide - Round 6 @ Alberton

This weeks game against the Dees monolith rucks would be the ideal time to play Lycett and Hayes in tandem, the former for the bash and crash stuff and the latter to change off the bench with him as required. Dixon is arguably the only other `ruckman' on the Port list who is currently capable...

2nds Port Adelaide vs South Adelaide - Round 6 @ Alberton

Fair point pieman but you may recall Bruce Light was accused of consistently over running the ball, and/or failing to pick it up when he had time and space back in the late 1960's, and he became a state player by the early 1970's and a premiership wingman in 1977. Lachie Jones may not reach...

2nds Port Adelaide vs South Adelaide - Round 6 @ Alberton

It's fairly standard for blokes to struggle athletically the season after a knee reco, but Pasini appears to have lost his decision making skills as well. He appears to be half metre slower than what he was before the op and that could be the problem.

2nds Port Adelaide vs South Adelaide - Round 6 @ Alberton

I'm beginning to wonder if the bun fight about the proposed new stadium in Hobart could slow down that state's entry into the AFL. I don't watch the SBS news much if at all, but last night the female senator (the one who can sometimes look like she has been sleeping under a bridge for a month)...
