AFL Player 1: Andrew "Pidge" McGrath (vc) - The skip we didn't know we needed

Using super coach as a indicator is certainly the way to go 😛😛😛
It's an indicator. All stats are a model or indicator of performance right?

The problem with picking a particular model as the "right" or "best" one, is when you ignore results the model provides that don't suit your argument(s)

The disconnect with McGrath is that people can "see" the actual turnovers and horrendous disposal. This is countered with "he is the 3rd rated player on the ground" from a particular model. Those 2 groups of people are never going to see eye to eye

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he looked worse when all our midfielders were <182cm tall.

It’s pretty much the reason he was moved out as we simply couldn’t run him with Shiel, Merrett and Parish.

Not a total indicator as it does not include several other stats.
You do not know off super coach if McGrath conutered a few turn overs with his effort as far as DHPA or ability to negate at stoppage. The AFL ranking uses all the stats.

Finally there are a group of people that focus that much on the few mistakes a player makes because they have pre concieved ideas about what they are going to be looking at so a different standard is used compared to other players. Sometime the eye has blinkers on or carries pre concieved bias.

I have not seen the game so I have no informed comment either way this week
I do not disagree that McGrath is good for at least 3 or 4 ordinary turnovers a game.
And read the emojis. I was not having a serious dig ;):p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p

For the record and for anyone to comment on
#1 goal assists
#4 disposals
#34 tackles
#8 clearances
#16 meters gained
#5 inside 50
#20 score involvements
#10 intercept possessions
#2 contested possessions
#10 clangers
#4 effective disposals
#20 kicking efficiency
#13 effective kicks
#18 turnovers
#3 Ground Ball Gets
#7 pressure acts
#6 defensive half pressure acts

Well he outlasted his 'shoe-in' opponent for the 2017 rising star, Ryan Burton delisted

You can throw as many stats as you like...this guy has no composure or poise.
i really hate the idea that he's going to end up in midfield again. he is an absolute liability in physical tight contested situations. mcgrath has enough strengths that surely there's a role for him on the field without having to go back to the well of playing him on ball which failed so dismally last time.

Took my loss-rage out on Andy early in the season. Moving up the ground later in the season gave a reason to keep him for now. We do need experienced seniors. Can't trade or delist everyone.
This stat is a positive for him. I'll withold my want to be rid of him for now.

Defensive HF is really the only role left to try him.

I think playing for Essendon with our poor Contested marking does hurt him somewhat as on a team with decent marking targets he just dumps to them and it works out okay.

I saw him outmarked in one on ones a bunch of times, and that was only after I started paying attention around midseason when the stat was originally shared.

McGrath cannot be Captain.

Hopefully Durham or Caldwell are up to it. Both lead by example but don’t know much about them beyond that.

If needed do a Hodge to Brisbane style deal and trade someone in to do the job.
