1) Probably 2

5) Bryan and Richards together, Fraser can play forward
6) Immeadiate, it will be Clarke as well I think
7) 2008

2) Which draftees would be your bet to play?

3) Is Trav Cloke really in a position to make a mark in the key position posts this season?

7) Is this Buckleys last year?

8) Who is set for a breakout year?

9) Whats Danny Stanely's chances this year?

10) Heath Shaw in the backs or mids this year?

1) 2 at most
2) Brown & Goldsack
3) Yes, he is 20 now & ready to make an impact
4) I believe all this hype that we have a slow pathetic midfeild is just that HYPE. It stems from the final against the bulldogs, but people seem to forget that we were in terrible form going into the finals & we had many players carrying serious injuries. With H shaw, R shaw, Johnson, Didak,Davis, Pendelbury, Egan & Thomas, we have pace & youth options. Dont get sucked in from all the Collindwood bashing is out there on Big Footy. It is just tall poppy sydrome! Also never right off a Champ like Lica, Burns, Buckley & CO. still got plenty of value to add.
5) Richards if he can hold up
6) I think they will wait after NAB CUP
7) will play in 2008 & thats it
8) R SHAW, T Cloke, MAxwell, Egan, Davis
9) Doubt it
10) A bit of both, Back & mid

1) How many dratees can realistically play in the side this season without an upset in balance?
From last years draft, probably one or two. Anthony and Cox will probably get chances at senior level this season early on, and Iles will press for selection once more.

2) Which draftees would be your bet to play?
Nathan J. Brown and Tyson Goldsack are the likely ones to come in if any. Reid will be in development at Williamstown, Dick is a possibility but still probably not yet. Dawes, obviously is injured. Brown looks developed, and with an ageing tall backs (Wakes and Presti), which will see them maybe rested, and the likes of Hall, Walker and J Cloke out of the equation, it opens the door for he and Anthony. Goldsack is developed, and ready to play this year, also has that versatility.

3) Is Trav Cloke really in a position to make a mark in the key position posts this season?
Definately. He has added the pounds of muscle and from all reports is bigger than big. His role is to fill out CHF, and despite his efforts against WCE last year as a tall back, the next week he was best on ground at CHF, showing off his skills. His bulk and hands see him ready for a big year.

4) Is our midlfield better/worse or the same this year
Our midfield is better this year due to the experience of those who were added last year into the equation. Swan, Burns and O'Bree will continue to rotate off the bench on the ball and have the impacts they did in 06, while Buckley will also have stints, but then you got Pendlebury, Shaw and Ben Davies ready for years in the midfield, maybe. Add to that, Johnson, Licuria and Holland, who are consistent finders off the ball who can play off flanks to allow for the likes of Pendles and co.

5) Who is most likely to support Fraser in the ruck?
Guy Richards is the obvious one, but he looks set to play the no.1 role, despite Fraser's defining year in the ruck in 06. Fraser needs to be looked at in the long-term and will most likely push forward more this year, as he was probably expected to do last year but relied on him too much. Bryan will also push for selection of course.

6) Will this rookie promotion be immediate or will they wait before rushing into any decision, ala, dogs with davidson
With Chris Dawes knee reco, he could be put on the long-term list almost immediately and get a promotion straight away. Nicholls is good, but Macaffer would fill in Dawes role. It depends on what is seen in the improvement stages. If the midfield isn't working, Nicholls or Wellingham may be promoted. If they want a go to man up forward, Macaffer is their, and you never know about the Irish lad.

7) Is this Buckleys last year?
Yes. Buckley handed down the captaincy from his own words at Fed Square last year, but the club said he will stay captain. From that, it is very much the words of someone who will bow out. Hird however stayed on, despite handing down the captaincy in 05. I believe though, at 34 turning 35, Buckley may be thinking time to go. He does look bigger over the pre-season and a role as a forward looks inevitable, so you never know.

8) Who is set for a breakout year?
Ben Davies. I think Davies can control his consistency this year and give something extra to the midfield and put the pressure on the likes of O'Bree, Lockyer and Lonie in the 22. He has continued to impress in the seconds, experimenting his ways, but he has the work ethic and the ability to put in a good fight and keep his spot.

9) Whats Danny Stanely's chances this year?
I don't rate it very high. Haven't heard too much this pre-season about him looking ready for the next step (into the seniors), and last year he looked too slow and in two minds. We have a midfield criticised for being slow, and he doesn't help. He is a dasher, so speed is needed, and that will be his indicator.

10) Heath Shaw in the backs or mids this year?
I think we will see Shaw play a Ben Johnson role, where he will play in the midfield at times but continue to be a running backman. Shaw's courage and skills out of the backline are needed, however he will push up.

1: I think 4 will debut during the year, but no more than 2 in the same side.

2: I think Brown and D ick will come first, Goldsack mid-season and Reid in the later stages.

3: Yes. He is bigger, fitter and ready to have a big impact.

4: The midfield deffinately will have more options. Time will tell if it's better.

5: I think Richards will be the no.1 choice, but i can see Richards, Fraser and Bryan in the one side. More forward time for Fraser this year.

6: After the NAB Cup. Nicholls would be the closest at this time.

7: I would have thought, but he has said he is likely to go again.

8: Chris Egan

9: He will debut this season if lucky. I like him a lot. He just needs to work hard and he'll get his chance. Still very young and learning.

10: He will play some midfield roles, but I would expect him to spend time in defence again. he is a great rebounder.

1) How many dratees can realistically play in the side this season without an upset in balance?

2.

2) Which draftees would be your bet to play?

From what I've seen thus far; Brad ******** should get a guernsey during the season along with Nathan Brown. Goldsack and Reid will develop at Williamstown.

3) Is Trav Cloke really in a position to make a mark in the key position posts this season?

Yes, most definitely. He will pick up his workload this year and look to be authoritive on a consistent basis, not once every month.

4) Is our midlfield better/worse or the same this year

The same, if not worse. The likes of Licuria, Burns and Buckley will be one year older. Back when Licuria and Burns were in their prime we were the number 1 stoppage team in the competition, now Sydney have taken over because we haven't replaced these players. Creative players don't always win the hard ball.

5) Who is most likely to support Fraser in the ruck?

Aside from Richards, Chris Bryan seems like the only feasible option. We have poor ruck stocks and nothing has changed since 2000.

6) Will this rookie promotion be immediate or will they wait before rushing into any decision, ala, dogs with davidson

Dawes will go onto the long-term injury list, as you may have heard, so there's a spot open on the senior list for a rookie. It could be anyone at the moment, but Nicholls would be in front of the other rookies due to receiving some experience at Williamstown.

7) Is this Buckleys last year?

No. The great man will play on for another season and he'll continue to do a few good things before he calls it a day.

8) Who is set for a breakout year?

Sean Rusling. He needs to step up and fill the Chris Tarrant void.

9) Whats Danny Stanely's chances this year?

He will make his debut because Malthouse wants him to play for Collingwood.

10) Heath Shaw in the backs or mids this year?

Midfield. We have enough defenders who can cover for him, but he'll continue to play a role in the backline.

1. Depends how good they are, probably two
2. Reid
3 CHF for sure
4.Same,but with younger players comiing through, therefore it has room for improvement unlike previous years where the senior players were not going to get any better
5. Hopefully Fraser will support Richards in the ruck
6. No rush to promote a rookie, they'll all get a chance to shine
7. No
8. Egan, T Cloke, H Shaw
9. Short price to be delisted
10. Midfield.

Honest opinion Coin Toss, but I disagree with same of your statements. Our midfield wasn't that poor last year if you look at the overall stats. Our form dropped way off after round 15 or so. That was due to playes coming back from long term injuries & the long season catching up to them. Our midfield is clearly our weak link, but its not that bad & I am over the hype around it. After that Bulldogs loss, it was out of control. But Swan, Pendles, Johnson, H Shaw, R SHaw, Egan, Davis & Lonie have pace to burn. Expect them spending much more time around the middle. As for Obree, lica, Holland, Burns & Bucks well they will always add something & experience.

As for our ruck division, yes we havent improved since 2000, but Ruckman aren very hard to come by!

1) How many dratees can realistically play in the side this season without an upset in balance?

Brown is the most likely to get games IMO as a developing key back. The next likely IMO and will get games is Reid. Not that skinny but he won't be playing CHF or FF, if he is in good form he will play it's that simple. Reid seems like he can be a real weapon. Goldsack is a bit top-aged and has a big body so he won't be held back if he is good form. Asterix may be held back but then again as a small forward he has a lot of competition, alot would have to go right for him.

2) Which draftees would be your bet to play?

See above.

3) Is Trav Cloke really in a position to make a mark in the key position posts this season?

He will be required to make them his. In fact Collingwood will give him the CHF position. Unless Rocca regains some mobility and fitness (which from some reports from training he has) TC has little competition at CHF. And anyway I think FF would be best for Rocca. The question is where does Rusling fit in?

4) Is our midlfield better/worse or the same this year

I don't know we have alot of players that could decline but more likely more players will improve.

5) Who is most likely to support Fraser in the ruck?

Richards or Bryan. Unless there are injuries to forwards all 3 won't play at once. Ok maybe if Bryan can play in defence. Fraser won't play forward for any length of the season, he is a ruckman.

6) Will this rookie promotion be immediate or will they wait before rushing into any decision, ala, dogs with davidson

They should wait and make the rookies fight for a spot. As soon as one of the players is ready for AFL footy promote him and pick him.

7) Is this Buckleys last year?

I don't think so.

8) Who is set for a breakout year?

Egan, Cloke, Lonie.

9) Whats Danny Stanely's chances this year?

I think he will get games either way. If he is in poor form at the end of the year in an unimportant game MM will pick him just to test him out.

10) Heath Shaw in the backs or mids this year?

Half and half I think. It depends if Iles can step up.

1) How many dratees can realistically play in the side this season without an upset in balance?

Brown and ********.

2) Which draftees would be your bet to play?

Brown, Clarke and perhaps ******** if lucky.

3) Is Trav Cloke really in a position to make a mark in the key position posts this season?

Certainly is.

4) Is our midlfield better/worse or the same this year

The same, hopefully on the improve.

5) Who is most likely to support Fraser in the ruck?

Stretch

6) Will this rookie promotion be immediate or will they wait before rushing into any decision, ala, dogs with davidson

Marty

7) Is this Buckleys last year?

No chance.

8) Who is set for a breakout year?

Stretch

9) Whats Danny Stanely's chances this year?

Handy.

10) Heath Shaw in the backs or mids this year?

Bitta both.

8) Who is set for a breakout year?

9) Whats Danny Stanely's chances this year?

10) Heath Shaw in the backs or mids this year?

1. 2-3
2. Goldy & Brown
3. Certainly, may not dominate this year (look for '08) but should at least hold his own.
4. Slightly better with improvement in youngsters.
5. Could be Richards & Bryan.....
6. Immediate
7. No, he has already stated he wants to play on.
8. Egan & Rus
9. As good as any of the youngsters, if he's good enough & puts the hard yards in the he will get his chance. Bad OP & the fact he was a very young draftee mean that '06 will have virtually no bearing on his future, will have at least another 2 seasons.
10. Both.

Brown and possibly Ried

Absolutely

4) Is our midlfield better/worse or the same this year

Possibly the same or even worse given Burns is a year older Bux is a year older, Dutchy is out for 6. It really depends on how any new additions to this year's midfield rotation go given the opportunity.

5) Who is most likely to support Fraser in the ruck?

Richards when fit, Bryant will get his chance

6) Will this rookie promotion be immediate or will they wait before rushing into any decision, ala, dogs with davidson

They'll wait till at least first round if there smart

7) Is this Buckleys last year?

Dare I say it but probably, were a few little telling signs last season for mine.

8) Who is set for a breakout year?

Neon? Travis? Rusling?

9) Whats Danny Stanely's chances this year?

On the evidance remote at the moment

10) Heath Shaw in the backs or mids this year?

Will be given a chance to contribute in the midfield at some stage you'd think/hope

1) How many dratees can realistically play in the side this season without an upset in balance?
I agree with Lonie on this one,1 -2 players, Cox and Anthony will hopefully get a game or two. As much as I would like to see Clark get a senior game this year I don't think it will happen but you never know. Nicholls is another who I would like to see get a senior game.

2) Which draftees would be your bet to play?
Answer above ^^^

3) Is Trav Cloke really in a position to make a mark in the key position posts this season?
CHF will be his main position this year. I rekon this will be a break through year for Travis, He has really bulked up over the pre-season and will be a big asset to the Collingwood Football Club this year.

4) Is our midlfield better/worse or the same this year
I rekon it is better than last year, I have a feeling Licuria will do well this year. While Buckley will be playing up forward we have alot of young talent coming through to help out in the midfeild.

5) Who is most likely to support Fraser in the ruck?
Guy Richards definetly, Once he gets a few more games under his belt we can release Fraser into the forward line to do some damage.

6) Will this rookie promotion be immediate or will they wait before rushing into any decision, ala, dogs with davidson
I dont really know, so I am not going to attempt to answer this question.

7) Is this Buckleys last year?
No, I think that Buckley will stay up until 2008, He has really bulked up this season so that must mean he has alot of fight left in him, Lets hope he doesn't get injurys because if he does then that may be a reason for his retirement.

8) Who is set for a breakout year?
Travis "TC" Cloke will be the standout for the magpies this year, he has been working very hard throughout the pre-season and has really bulked up, he showed good form in the practise match against Sydney which are good signs for the home and away season.

9) Whats Danny Stanely's chances this year?
I can't see him getting a game this season, but if not this year then definetly next year.

10) Heath Shaw in the backs or mids this year?
Once again I totally agree with Lonie, He will play both. He is a very good footballer and will have a better season than last season.

How many dratees can realistically play in the side this season without an upset in balance? I'd would see at 2-3 at the most

2) Which draftees would be your bet to play? John Anthony, Shannon Cox, Ryan Cook and maybe Alan Toovey

3) Is Trav Cloke really in a position to make a mark in the key position posts this season? Yes he is with the form I saw at the exhibition game expect a huge year from him this year

4) Is our midlfield better/worse or the same this year? I think our midfield is a little better with a player like Meds in the side Didak and Leon and push to play in the midfield giving us the speed we require

5) Who is most likely to support Fraser in the ruck? Defiantly Richards he has to make the most of it this year and has all the ability too. Bryan might get a run hald way during the year

6) Will this rookie promotion be immediate or will they wait before rushing into any decision, ala, dogs with davidson? It will be immediate I think could give Nicholls ago but maybe he isn't ready. I would like too see Marty have a go but give him one more year and he'll be ready.

7) Is this Buckleys last year? No he could play 300 games

8) Who is set for a breakout year? Trav Cloke or Harry O'Brien

9) Whats Danny Stanely's chances this year? Hmm a smokie one but a likely chance

10) Heath Shaw in the backs or mids this year? put him in the mid when needed this will give Harry to really shine off the flank.

1) How many dratees can realistically play in the side this season without an upset in balance?

3) Is Trav Cloke really in a position to make a mark in the key position posts this season?

7) Is this Buckleys last year?

8) Who is set for a breakout year?

9) Whats Danny Stanely's chances this year?

10) Heath Shaw in the backs or mids this year?

1. If form warrants it you can have all of them. Fact is they are all very young and raw. I can only see 2 players playing.

2. Goldsack because he's older/mature and Brown because he has size.

3. Trav Cloke will have a huge year. As a rule nearly all players have their breakout year in the 3rd/4th. Watch him against Hawthorn last year and thats a glimpse of the future.

4. Same. If anything we've got a little bit more depth with 2nd year players taking steps in the right direction to have spurts in the middle.

5. I think Richards and Bryan will both play pretty regularly. For tapwork Richards is your man but for versatility Bryan can go forward. Loves a pack mark and has a big kick.

6. Immediate - will happen before round 1 IMO. Nicholls the obvious person as he has spent the longest on the rookie list. I know Marty has alot of hype about him but he needs time to get used to the game.

7. Not Buckley's last.

8. Breakout year - Rusling, Clokey, Danny Nichols. Players that will take a solid step in the right direction - JA, Ryan Cook.

9. Will spend most of the year in the VFL. Will play less than 5 games IMO. Atm a miss by CFC recruiters. Hope he comes good.

10. Mainly HBF but will get rotated through the middle.

1) How many dratees can realistically play in the side this season without an upset in balance?

It depends on where they are playing - If they are filling holes, then the balance won't be upset. However, if they are outplaying other players for their spot then it might change things a bit.

2) Which draftees would be your bet to play?

Again, it depends on where they play. I would suggest that Nathan Brown and Brad D ick would be the most likely. Brown because I think he'll prove to be a more useful option than Wakes by mid-season, and D ick because with Didak out, there is space for another small forward in the side.

3) Is Trav Cloke really in a position to make a mark in the key position posts this season?

I believe so - He has proven his ability to get out on leads and take marks, now he just has to do it consistently, and kick a few more goals.

4) Is our midlfield better/worse or the same this year

Better. Swan should spend more time in there, Thomas and Pendlebury likewise, while O'Bree, Licuria and the like aren't really old enough to be declining just yet. Burns is only up to cameos, so we might get less from him now, and I don't think we'll see much of Bucks in there, but I don't think we really NEEDED him in the midfield this year - I can think of many times where the game was turned in the midfield by someone other than Bucks this year.

I think Heath Shaw might be a mid most of the time this year too.

5) Who is most likely to support Fraser in the ruck?

Guy Richards. However, I expect that both Rocca and Cloke will see time in the ruck to relieve at times.

6) Will this rookie promotion be immediate or will they wait before rushing into any decision, ala, dogs with davidson

I think the decision will be left until after the NAB Cup, as both Nicholls and Clarke are especially likely to see game time.

7) Is this Buckleys last year?

Not a chance - Will be just a few games short of 300 at the end of the season, so there's no way he doesn't come back for the milestone. Even if he is just an off-the-bench impact player ala Peter Riccardi, we could use him.

It might be his last year as captain though.

8) Who is set for a breakout year?

Travis Cloke. Heath Shaw too - Expect him to be a full time mid this year.

9) Whats Danny Stanely's chances this year?

Not good - Looks too mentally slow to make it. I would love to be wrong about him, because he's a type that we could use, but I don't have my hopes sky high.

10) Heath Shaw in the backs or mids this year?

Already answered this one...

7) Is this Buckleys last year?

8) Who is set for a breakout year?

9) Whats Danny Stanely's chances this year?

10) Heath Shaw in the backs or mids this year?

1. doubt any of the 2006 draftees will have much of an impact in 2007, Reid & Brown are KP prospects that usually take longer so dont rush em

2. none of the 07 batch, i reckon iles, anthony and cox from 06 will be a fair show for some decent game time, even Toovey as it seems MM is a fan

3.yep, he will be our CHF and do well, not dominate but fit in nicely

4. better, much better actually IMO as the only blokes who i think may not produce as much in 07 as they did in 06 would be Buckley and O'Bree.....all the rest have plenty of room for improvement

5. Richards and Fraser hopefully, although i wouldn't mind letting rip a few 'WOOOOOFS' especially against Carlscum

6. depends on if anybody performs in the NAB and pre-season games, no need to promote anybody unless u know u are going to play them

7. no chance

8. Iles will do well as a BP player

9. slim

10. still a behind the ball role, but Iles to be the deeper small with Heater able to push further up the ground

1) How many dratees can realistically play in the side this season without an upset in balance?
2, possibly 3 at most

2) Which draftees would be your bet to play?
Reid and D1ck

3) Is Trav Cloke really in a position to make a mark in the key position posts this season?
Definitely, he has had his first preseason and should be able to make an impact

4) Is our midlfield better/worse or the same this year
marginally better, only because the likes of thomas, pendlebury, swan and h.shaw will be more experienced

5) Who is most likely to support Fraser in the ruck?
Chris Bryan if he improves his mobility, otherwise Richards will rotate on and off the bench with josh going forward

6) Will this rookie promotion be immediate or will they wait before rushing into any decision, ala, dogs with davidson
when one of the rookies deserves a game, then MM will most likely promote them during the week before that game

7) Is this Buckleys last year?
no, 2008 will be his swansong

8) Who is set for a breakout year?
Leon Davis

9) Whats Danny Stanely's chances this year?
not great, but will be happy if he proves me wrong

10) Heath Shaw in the backs or mids this year?
halfback/wing
