How time flies. August 26 2016 marks 10 years since then forward now full back Tom Lonergan nearly lost his life on the footy field. I have never been to a cats game that was as silent as after that incident with Brad Miller.

40 units of blood later, a de-listing, then re-drafting by Geelong and Tom rebounded from a stint up forward upon return to transform into a very reliable fullback for this great club. Culminating in a richly deserved premiership medallion in 2011. Of all the 30 players that recently became premiership players at this club none made me happier than seeing Lonergan with his premiership medallion, a reward more than anything for what he had been through.

In a weird twist of fate, this Saturday, in what is likely Lonergan's final game at Kardinia Park is again against Melbourne. That is of course if he does play with his first born due to be born.

Platitudes can sometimes be cheap, so maybe as a sign of respect in what looms as his last home game in the hoops, maybe instead consider donating blood, it saved his life.

Thanks for the memories, Tom

Apparently Andrew Krakouer's story would have been more a fairytale & more remarkable than Lonner's journey according the commentary team that day .

Absolute champ Lonner's has been for us.

It is amazing to think what happened to him considering he was able to walk off the ground on his own after that collision.

Well done Domsy on making it back and becoming a premiership player :thumbsu:

BTW did anyone hear an ump on sunday call him Domsy ?
Reckon it might've been Leigh Fisher.
