Shows the value of development at the lower level sometimes to iron out some issues and build confidence in their game.
I also think the fact we had Brown, Gray, Balta, Miller, Broad and Vlastuin playing relatively tall down back worked against him.

He fits in well with a Gray, Miller, Broad, Vlastuin backline.

Balta was a major distraction to our backlines development and the development of those that were in it .

Perhaps.
When Nankervis went down then Samson had his one forgettable game then gut punched a bloke, I thought he was the natural ruck. Took Yze longer to get there but he did.

Trainor is the Broad replacement so it’s good he gets a run with him to develop in year two before Nathan retires at year end.

Looked good and more solid with his disposals

He seems a very confident type, even when makes a mistake is very quickly demanding the ball again. Love how he goes about it, if our development is any good he should get to a level maybe just below elite.

I thought Trainor played a great game. Considering he dislocated his thumb he confidently took intercept marks, found targets by foot and attacked the contest.

I think he was one of our best defenders today and, potentially, will be one of the competitions best defenders in a few years time

I'm not too concerned about his development but it's a bit of a stretch to say he had a great game when he got [checks notes] -9 rating points.

AFAIK it's the worst game ever recorded by a defender, although someone who pays for stats will need to check that.

Jason Castagna must be spewing in his coco pops at post like this. Guy won 3 flags & was ridiculed by supporters here over his last 2 seasons.

Now the bar is so low a guy with 12 touches, all uncontested with 50%DE , is getting pats on the back.
Get serious softcocks

I'm pretty sure his tongue was firmly planted in his cheek....Trainor had an absolute shocker today and everyone knows it.

He needs to maintain a consistent level. At the moment one week he gives a good game and the following week the level drops.

If footy was snakes and ladders, Trainor just landed on a snake with some serious size about it with that performance. It rated -9.0 in the player ratings. That's going some.

Fortunately he is a key position prospect who has just turned 20. And he has played 25 other matches nowhere near that bad. You always want to be forgiving an outlier level shocker, especially from a player with Trainor's profile.

He will learn.
