McGUINNESS, Tony
DOB: 6/5/64
Games: 230 - Footscray 109, Glenelg 112, State 9.
Goals: 108 - Footscray.
Thank goodness he's back in South Australia with the Camry Crows! He has been an outstanding rover in the AFL for Footscray since 1986, winning the club's best and fairest award in 1987. In 1982, he became the youngest player to win the Magarey Medal at 17 years of age, and he polled well each year in the Brownlow Medal. He is a rover with class, dash, courage and is dangerous around the packs and near the goals.
He also has great leadership qualities too. His talent and wealth of AFL experience makes him one of the most valuable players in the squad. Won All-Australian selection in 1988.
MICKAN, Mark
DOB: 30/1/61
Games: 168 - Brisbane 48, West Adelaide 115, State 5.
Goals: 26 - Brisbane.
A highly credentialled player who has the rare distinction of going from one club as a captain to another as captain. He led West Adelaide at the end of 1986 and then joined the Brisbane Bears, where he was captain for three years.
He won West's best and fairest award in 1983, 1985-86.
An outstanding competitor, Mickan has often beaten players taller and stronger than himself.
While he has stamped himself as a valuable ruckman, he is also capable of playing well in defence. Won All-Australian selection in 1988.
HUGHES, Danny
DOB: 4/12/63
Games: 202 - Melbourne 124, Port Adelaide 71, State 7.
Goals: 23 - Melbourne
They don't make defenders any meaner or tougher, and the Camry Crows will be thankful for these attribute this year.
The former Melbourne vice-captain plays it hard and earns every possession at fullback or centre half-back.
He is a fine team player, lifts his side through example and is always there when the pressure is on. His AFL experience will prove invaluable and Hughes certainly has many other playing assets to offer.
Won All-Australian selection during the 1988 Bicentennial Carnival.
JARMAN, Andrew
DOB: 14/1/66
Games: 196 - Norwood 22, North Adelaide 165, State 9.
Goals: 119.
One of the finest, most talented league footballers South Australia has produced. He is a centreman, ruck-rover with class and he displayed every ounce of it to the Victorians during the clash at the MCG in July, 1989. He captured the Magarey Medal in 1987 and won best and fairest awards with North Adelaide in 1985 and 1989.
He won All-Australian selection in 1986-87 and is truly a champion.
Adding to his long list of attributes is his magical team play as he is so often responsible for team-mates succeeding downfield.
A player who will beat the best in the AFL.
LINDNER, Bruce
DOB: 20/6/61
Games: 128 - Geelong 66, West Adelaide 56, State 6.
Goals: 139 - Geelong.
Classy forward who makes a welcome return to South Australia after six years with Geelong. Lindner was plagued by injuries over the past two seasons, but he is raring to go again.
Won All-Australian selection in 1987-88, which proves his outstanding ability.
SMART, Nigel
DOB: 5/5/69
Games: 69 - South Adelaide 68, State 1.
Goals: 27 - South Adelaide.
Produced magnificent form last season to develop from an "unknown" from South Australia to one of the most respected young players in the competition.
He can play centre half-forward, on a forward flank or in defence. Wherever he plays, Smart can lift a side with his class and determination.
He is a player with plenty of flair and he showed this during his first state game when he leapt from the bench and ignited the forward lines, giving South Australia a much needed thrust. He's sure to lift the Camry Crows. A player with enormous potential.
ROUVRAY, Paul
DOB: 18/4/72
Games: 21 - Glenelg
Goals: 23.
One of the most outstanding first-year players in the league last year and has a fabulous football career ahead of him.
He can be damaging in the forward lines with his strong marking and ability to read the ball, attacking from a wing or reliable on the half-back flank.
Has shown improvement with every game and there seems little doubt he will develop into a regular key player with the Camry Crows.
Rouvray works on his skills and deserves every opportunity he receives.
FIELKE, Grantley
DOB: 18/3/62
Games: 277 - West Adelaide 255, Collingwood 16, State 6.
Goals: 50 - West.
It is difficult to believe there is a player more dedicated to football and improving his game than Grant Fielke.
The 1985 Magarey Medallist is highly skilled, sets up excellent team play, and his dash and creativity make him a damaging player for the opposition.
Fielke's experience with Collingwood will be invaluable and he has shown he can play well at interstate level. Fielke sets himself high targets and he never stops working until he achieves his personal and team goals.
PITTMAN, David
DOB: 23/2/69
Games: 33 - Norwood 32, State 1.
Goals: 2.
One of the most exciting big men in South Australia. He has the potential to be a huge force for the Camry Crows, and given the chance to develop on the field, he can prove himself a valuable acquisition.
He has played only 32 senior games, including one state apperance. Pittman has already stamped himself as a mature ruckman who can tap the ball well and take strong marks around the ground.
Training with the Camry Crows has also increased his power, and with an aggressive approach, there is no doubt he will succeed.
SCHWERDT, Stephen
DOB: 5/5/68
Games: 89 - Central District.
Goals: 27.
South Australian fans might remember him from previous seasons as a speedy, talented wingman with plenty of promise - but not enough strength.
But that has changed now and he has appreciated the Camry Crows' weight training program.
He is now quick and strong, and with his abilities as a fine wingman, Schwerdt can now develop further and win a regular spot in the side.
The West Coast Eagles saw his potential and wanted him across this year, but thankfully he stayed.
That's terrific for the Camry Crows.
THOMPSON, Robbie
DOB: 22/10/67
Games: 60 - Glenelg 59, State 1.
Goals: 4.
A very competent half-back whose class and skills were greatly appreciated by Glenelg last season when he showed himself as one of the biggest improvers in the competition.
If there was a doubt about him, it was his lack of physical strength, but like so many of the Camry Crows, he has gained extra muscle in the gym and is now a complete player.
His dedication to football is outstanding and the most certain thing about him this year is he will be giving 100 percent effort at training and during a game.
WEIDEMANN, Wayne
DOB: 21/10/66
Games: 19 - West Torrens
Goals: 11
Somebody must have had him in mind when they came up with that advertising line about "any tougher and they would rust".
He is one of the toughest and most fearless players in the league, and his incredible desire to win the hard ball, find a team-mate with an effective disposal, and force his side into attack makes him one of the first players the side will pick when total commitment is required.
He plays on the ball, and if ever you can't find him, look under the packs where some others would fear to go.
Has proved himself one of the most valuable players to come from Canberra.
MURPHY, Michael
DOB: 8/9/65
Games: 113 - Glenelg 110, North Melbourne 3.
Goals: 50.
Had a brief stint with North Melbourne, but was not given the opportunities he deserved.
A tough worker with the ability to wreck the opposition's defence playing at centre half-forward or on a flank, and could be more than useful in defence.
Murphy's dedication to the game and willingness to work on the track should pay dividends for him in '91 and prove that North Melbourne made a mistake.
His form in the opening round of the Foundation Cup was superb, kicking seven goals and indicating he is a player with a big goal in mind - succeeding in the AFL.
WARHURST, Tom
DOB: 17/2/63
Games: 234 - Norwood 231, State 3.
Goals: 42.
One of the most reliable full-backs in the South Australian league competition for a number of years.
An aggressive, reliable player, he rarely gives his opponents much breathing space and he makes them work for every kick.
Warhurst can also play at centre half-back or in a back pocket, and has always been acknowledged as one of the most valuable defenders in SA.
Another who resisted the AFL lure and is sure to prove himself with the AFL chance with the Camry Crows.
He is now a lot fitter, but he hasn't lost any of that toughness.
TREGENZA, Simon
DOB: 9/3/71
Games: 62 - Port Adelaide 61, State 1.
Goals: 52.
A superbly skilled wingman who has played three seasons of league football and twice been runner-up in the Magarey Medal.
His tremendous dash, ability to force his side into attack and find his team-mates with an array of skills, makes him one of the most exciting and promising players.
TASKER, Sean
DOB: 18/6/68
Games: 57 - North Adelaide.
Goals: 62.
A dedicated player who has the class and discipline to be an outstanding half-back flanker, with strong marking and pace off the mark to be damaging forward.
He matured greatly as a league footballer last year and his impeccable team play and knowledge of the game makes him a fine player. Tasker gives 100 percent effort every time and he plays the game hard.
PATTERSON, Paul
DOB: 28/9/65
Games: 94 - West Adelaide.
Goals: 39.
A much-improved fullback from West Adelaide who is capable of improvement and answering the AFL challenge.
He is strong and never stops trying.
Like all fullbacks, he has his bad days, but his character is typified by the fact he tries harder the next time and generally succeeds.
His pace off the mark, aggression and strength will allow him to be competitive against the highly-acclaimed AFL full-forwards.
TANNER, Grant
DOB: 24/7/70
Games: 24 - Norwood.
Goals: 14.
One of South Australia's most promising young players. A dashing and solid wingman with immaculate skill and pace. Originated from Jervois and younger brother of teammate, Wayne Tanner.
He is sure to be a player of the future for the Camry Crows.
PAYZE, Andrew
DOB: 25/8/66
Games: 162 - West Torrens 159, State 3.
Goals: 116.
A wingman with dash and an uncanny ability to be where the ball is about to be placed. Works extremely hard on his game and deserves every kick.
He captured the Eagles' best and fairest award in 1986 and has played consistently well since making his league debut in 1984 when he was 18. Payze has been rewarded for his persistent efforts with three state games.
NEGRI, Romano
DOB: 30/9/64
Games: 74 - Woodville.
Goals: 19.
One of the biggest men in South Australian league football and is expected to take the huge responsibility of leading the Camry Crows' rucks.
He has rid himself of the awkwardness he brought from Tasmania when Woodville recruited him in 1987, and is a far more complete footballer with his ability to take strong marks around the ground.
Negri captured Woodville's best and fairest award in 1988 and has captained the club the past two years.
He measures 204cm in height - and he'll give every millimetre in effort this year.
ROWE, Stephen
DOB: 3/11/65
Games: 117 - Norwood 89, South Fremantle 27, State 1.
Goals: 116 - Norwood.
A prolific ball-getting rover who had his best season in the SANFL for Norwood last year, capturing the club champion award.
Recruited from South Fremantle at the end of the 1986 season, he almost went back to Western Australia at the end of '89.
Fortunately for Norwood, and the Camry Crows, he remained and will push strongly for a roving position.
His fine disposals, ability to read the play and general teamwork make him a valued contibutor.
McDERMOTT, Chris
DOB: 4/11/63
Games: 274 - Glenelg 265, State 9.
Goals: 175.
One of the most valuable players in South Australian football because of his outstanding team play, leadership and his unrelenting quest to win the hard ball.
When the packs have formed, there's always a big chance McDermott is underneath, fighting for the ball without fear of injury.
And over the years, he has copped more than his share of injuries, including a serious knee injury during an exhibition game in Vancouver in 1988.
But McDermott always works his way back. The Glenelg captain won his club's best and fairest award from 1986-88 and looks like remaining as one of the finest players not to have won a Magarey Medal.
He is one of the quickest handballers in the game and has earnt the highest respect from his opponents. All-Australian in 1986-87.
LEE, Scott
DOB: 5/3/63
Games: 132 - Central District 131, State 1.
Goals: 29.
Central District recruited him from Hawthorn at the end of the 1984 season and he has been an outstanding player in a back pocket.
He won the Bulldogs' best and fairest award in 1987 and again last year - and they were thoroughly deserved.
He plays the game hard, provides enormous resilience in defence and consistently sends his team into attack with his penetrating kicks.
Lee was one of the most consistent players in the SANFL competition last year and was largely responsible for many team victories.
There would be no more honest player than this terrific competitor.
McINTYRE, Peter
DOB: 6/1/67
Games: 61 - South Adelaide.
Goals: 72.
One of the most under-rated players in the SANFL last season.
He is a strong, big and aggressive key position player with loads of talent and potential, and his powerful marking capability will be more than useful. He is another of the Camry Crows who has a bright football future and is sure to develop as a key positional player.
MAYNARD, Rodney
DOB: 21/9/66
Games: 137 - Norwood.
Goals: 138.
A valuable player recruited from Lameroo North by Norwood.
He can play at centre half-back or centre half-forward and is as reliable as they come.
He topped Norwood's goalkicking list in 1988 with 51 goals, and the next year won the club champion award.
He is mobile for a key position player and is not afraid to contest in the tough packs. His pre-season training was good and it showed in the early trials.
There seems to be no doubt his versatility will be called upon in 1991.
BARTLETT, Alan
DOB: 23/5/67
Games: 46 - Glenelg.
Goals: 24.
A powerfully-built player who has the ability to play a key role at centre half-forward or centre half-back. He has yet to win a best and fairest award, but if prizes were given for honesty and commitment on the field, he would surely have had his named etched in gold letters the past few seasons.
KELLY, Matthew
DOB: 2/7/71
Games: 21 - Norwood.
Goals: 1.
He may be among the youngest of the Camry Crows, but he's no kid when it comes to mixing it with the best on the football field.
He is quick, aggressive and generally finds team-mates with his hard earnt disposals.
He can play on a wing or a half-back flank, and is a player who has outstanding potential.
The improvement he showed in his second year of league football was tremendous, and there is every indication he will win a regular spot with the Crows.
CLISBY, Trevor
DOB: 8/3/61
Games: 256 - North Adelaide.
Goals: 35.
Has been the backbone of North Adelaide's defence and one of the best in the league in recent years. Reads the play exceptionally well, always contests hard and plays a key role in setting up an attack from centre half-back.
Clisby's reliability is unquestionable and he will give 100 percent commitment every time. Has the ability to consistently spoil and in 256 games, few players have clearly beaten him on the day.
HODGES, Scott
DOB: 26/4/68
Games: 95 - Port Adelaide.
Goals: 319.
Records speak for themselves... he kicked an SANFL record 153 goals last season, won the Magarey Medal and Port Adelaide's best and fairest award, the A.R. McLean Medal.
This outstanding full-forward can not only take a strong mark, he has the ball-gathering skills of a champion.
He was a good player in 1988-89 when he topped Port's goalkicking list, but an even better player last season because he was always keen to work on improving his game.
His rewards have been justified.
BICKLEY, Mark
DOB: 4/8/69
Games: 53 - South Adelaide.
Goals: 43.
When he came down from Port Pirie few supporters in Adelaide knew him.
Now, after two seasons of league football, this South Adelaide rover recruited from the Solomontown Football Club is highly respected for his pace, skills, and most of all, his willingness to gather the hard ball in the packs.
He is rapidly maturing as a rover and needs only to continue to improve to be successful at this level
MARSHALL, David
DOB: 30/6/60
Games: 323 - Glenelg 322, State 1.
Goals: 258.
One of the most stylish and skilful players in South Australia.
A superb kick, he has the ability to always position himself where the football is, or where it is going to be.
He captured Glenelg's best and fairest award last season. Surprisingly, it was his first award because he has been such a fine player for the Tigers for so long.
He came close to winning the Magarey Medal, a reward which would have been more than justified.
Marshall can play at centre or on a wing. Wherever, he's a key team player.
HART, Darel
DOB: 3/1/64
Games: 213 - North Adelaide 164, Central District 47, State 2.
Goals: 316.
A player with outstanding leadership qualities.
He has never been soft in going for the ball in the packs and has never given anything less than 100 percent.
He might lack the pace of some of the rovers, but he is in a class on his own when it comes to skills, determination and teamwork.
He was North's captain the previous three seasons and won the club's best and fairest award in 1986, 1987 and last year.
He is the type of player who will shine should the going get tough and he never sees anything in football as too great a challenge.
LAMB, Clayton
DOB: 1/7/64
Games: 200 - Glenelg 23, West Adelaide 174, State 3.
Goals: 229.
A player with an abundance of class. A terrific worker at centre, on the ball or in the forward lines.
Always capable of kicking goals and has excelled in big matches.
He was captain of West Adelaide in 1989 and then switched to Glenelg, but sadly missed the grand final because of a broken leg.
Hopefully luck will go his way in 1991 because he deserves the success.
A tremendous team player, Lamb is sure to succeed in the AFL.
BROWN, David
DOB: 29/9/69
Games: 76 - Port Adelaide.
Goals: 67.
One of the most courageous players in South Australia.
He plays on the ball or on a half-forward flank and always finds the ball through sheer determination and tremendous football sense.
And when he gathers those tough possessions, he so regularly uses them to team advantage with constructive disposals.
His skills and toughness will prove vital assets on the heavy Melbourne grounds.
LIPTAK, Matthew
DOB: 30/4/70
Games: 20 - Glenelg.
Goals: 17.
Made a strong impact on Glenelg and the SANFL in his debut season last year and he has the potential to emulate Glenelg's other outstanding rovers in recent years, Kym Hodgeman and Tony McGuinness.
A hard worker, Liptak is not frightened to go in for the hard ball and provides value to the side with his clever disposals and excellent team play.
Liptak might at first struggle to be named ahead of McGuinness and Darel Hart, but he is a player of the future and will answer the challenges ahead.
LINDSAY, Bruce
DOB: 22/7/61
Games: 255 - West Torrens 245, State 10.
Goals: 145.
Few players could be admired more than Bruce Lindsay. He showed fantastic potential as a first year player in 1978 and then appeared to have his career wrecked after a suffering a knee injury at training.
But typical of his character, he not only worked his way back into the game with sheer persistence, but became one of the SANFL's most valuable players, both at club and state level.
He captained West Torrens from 1984 to last year, and while he has won only one best and fairest award (1979), few would argue he has been one of the club's most outstanding contributors. The Camry Crows needs his inspiration.
ABERNETHY, Bruce
DOB: 10/5/62
Games: 273 - Port Adelaide 161, North Melbourne 43, Collingwood 60, State 9.
Goals: 98.
One of the most reliable players in South Australia. A superb kick, this close-checking and often attacking Port Adelaide half-back flanker has a wealth of experience which should prove invaluable.
He won Port's best and fairest award in 1987 and has proved himself at interstate level. His performances in finals add to a long list of attributes.
BARTSCH, Darren
DOB: 28/4/69
Games: 29 - West Adelaide.
Goals: 17.
He was one of the most improved players in the SANFL competition last year, consistently beating the strongest of ruckmen.
He has developed his tapping skills, can take strong marks and is sure to prove a handy player with the Camry Crows.
An indication of his dedication to senior football has been his willingness to work hard and recover from injuries.
JAMESON, Rod
DOB: 30/6/70
Games: 45 - Glenelg.
Goals: 28.
One of the most exciting young players in South Australia.
He is a highly skilled, creative centreman whose knowledge of the game belies his youth.
He has already shown he can play well under pressure which comes in finals, and he is sure to develop into a key player for the Camry Crows. Has the ability to play in a number of positions and is always creating a positive passage of play.
Has matured as a player and watch him develop even further in a tough football environment.
KLUG, John
DOB: 28/9/65
Games: 53 - Woodville.
Goals: 114.
The former Tasmanian has a loping gait and always appears to be running at half-pace. But not so.
This creative centre half-forward has great mobility and his clever reading of the play, coolness under pressure and ability to set-up or complete some fine team play makes him a valuable player.
He won Woodville's best and fairest award last year, a remarkable achievement considering it was feared his league career may have come to an end when he was troubled by a serious knee injury in the previous two seasons. There's nothing fancy about him - but he's good.
HOCKING, Eddie
DOB: 6/1/70
Games: 65 - Central District.
Goals: 60.
Only one more vote and he would have been known as Eddie Hocking, the 1990 Magarey Medallist.
His polling in the count may have surprised many fans, but not those who observed his form last season.
He has explosive dash and has an uncanny ability to snap goals from near impossible angles.
He's the ideal man to come off the bench and add spark to a side - something he has done many times for Central District.
SMITH, Darren
DOB: 9/2/65
Games: 170 - Port Adelaide 168, State 2.
Goals: 262.
Gained overdue recognition when he played well for South Australia against Victoria at the MCG in July, 1989.
He is a strong, fit and mobile centre half-forward who can take the difficult marks and, when he plays aggressively, Smith can destroy his opponents.
Regularly kicks goals and plays a major role in setting up opportunities for team-mates.
He is the type of player who will excel with this greater challenge in the AFL.

He won West's best and fairest award in 1983, 1985-86.
An outstanding competitor, Mickan has often beaten players taller and stronger than himself.
While he has stamped himself as a valuable ruckman, he is also capable of playing well in defence. Won All-Australian selection in 1988.
