Both were fairly high draft picks, both have not gone on to be regularly consistant AFL players like I would've expected. In 2004 they go into their fifth year on an AFL list and the label of them being 'kids' should be well and truly gone.

At this stage which one are you most disappointed with? Do you think both have been good performers over their time on the list? Who enters 2004 more under the pump?

Both are under the pump no doubt.

Wheatley is under more pressure because he had a very poor 2003. He's a confidence player it all went wrong for him in Round 2. He played poorly & was dropped, it probably wasn't the right decision in hindsight. It wasn't that long previous that he was going great guns on a wing as well as deputising admirably at after Ox retired. He has on his day an impressive attacking style & he kicks like a mule. He needs to get back to his 2002 form early on, if not we might have seen the best of him. He's another bloke who's too versatile for his own good. Nobody knows what his best position is.

Greeny, Greeny, Greeny... Where do you start with this guy? He has good skills & at times he looks very impressive. Too often he goes missing. When it's kicked to him on the lead he marks it & usually slots the goal. The forward pocket is starvation corner, he's only an average crumber & often we go to Neeta. I liked him on a wing but some think he's too slow. Either way he's gotta get away from goal.

Wheatley may have been lucky to have remained on the list, I hope he gets an opportunity next season.

Well both have got some potential and Greeny has lived up to it more than Wheata. To be fair to Wheatley he had hammie problems and struggled to get fully fit.

Theres a fair chance that both these players could find themselves on a wing with their long penetrating kicks into the forward line, and also sliding back to take the kickouts. It will be tough for these guys though with competition such as Heffernan Johnstone, Bell, Sylvia, McLean, and Vardy pushing for these possies. Their versatility will however allow them to push up for a half and then drop back or forward.

The bottom line:

Both must perform or they're gone.

Green boy had a number of really good games playing off a wing last year... granted when he came to the club he was fairly 1 dimentional coming from the soccer backgroud bit like nich had to learn the game a bit but he should be past that now and by reports is training for a midfield role. Is it me or when ever he gets his hands on the ball you can tell he is itching to send the thing straight towards goal? probably play more of a driving forward midfielder than creativiy of jono or yze? probably something we need... bit more directness

As for Paul... yea he is still a could be anything or nothng player... needs to step up accet more responcibilty/leadership of the team and he will be good for us. I still question his long kicking a bit... yes it's long but thats about all it is

One advantage Greeny has as a midfielder is that he understands how the forwards NEED it delivered.

I'd rather see Green up forward than in the midfield. He isn't cut out for that role; he is soft and not very fast. Plus he isn't a natural midfielder or a natural running player. I'd rather see him up forward next to Neitz or even on the half forward line, kicking 30 odd goals a year which he definately is capable of. Good on the lead, safe hands and a wonderful kick. He is a confidence player and needs the team to be playing well too. Stick with him up forward.

As for Wheats, well he needs to regain some confidence because last year he didn't know what he was doing out there.

I reckon he just can't be left to rot in a pocket. Half Forward flank might suit, he'll be in range & is forever providing an option.

Half back flank anyone? I just think he needs a fresh challenge.

I'd like to see Green start in the centre and then move down to the forward line, even going further up the ground at various times to lose a tag. The only thing that could stop this would be the young midfielders coming on and filling up all the spots, a good problem to have.
