Agree strongly with all of those, particularly point 1 which is rarely raised (except for your swipe at Americans - they do sports branding very well in my opinion ). I don't want us to neglect our Crows nickname, but it feels like we neglect the fact that we are Adelaide. That's who we are and it is what we represent. That name is probably the biggest asset the club has, let's promote it.

"Adelaide Football Club" - there's the best slogan our advertising could ever come up with, nothing else needed.

The Americans do sports branding really well - for the American market.

We are not American. We have a different relationship with our sport, and this continues to go in one ear and out the other with the AFL and our club in particular. We got this 19th man shit from the Seahawks. It is plastic, it is lame, and it achieves the opposite to what they intended. As much as it gets thrown around in jest with the Power, we -are- the Adelaide Football Club, we are -not- the 19th man. We are members of the football club (many of us). People do not need to be told that we are a part of things. We were already close enough, and part of things enough. The 19th man feels alienating and franchisey.

I know there are a lot of people on here who follow American sports, and many of them don't themselves see the difference in culture between us and them, but it is there and it is very pronounced. We are not American, and I am sick to death of every noise coming from our club lately seemingly being passed on from an NFL franchise.

It's like you've taken the words I've been saying to people out of my mouth.. :):thumbsu:

And I said the other day on here, someone has been spending too much time analysing overseas sporting franchises and trying to be the innovator here..

I don't mind the 19th man stuff as something in the background. That being:
retiring #19
occasionally referring to support from the 19th man.

I'm not so keen on:
19th man scoring assists
raising the 19th man flag
19th man on so much apparel

Yes occasionally referring, the pushing of 19th man at every opportunity is so grating.. They nearly can't communicate in the various ways you can communicate without uttering 19th man this, 19th man that..

Amateur hour at its finest, seriously is there anyone down there that are competent in their positions??

If you are going to do this lame thing why hold it on a week night.

Why wouldn't you do it during the Geelong game, advertise it widely. Put the game on the big screen in the Shed, have a free sausage sizzle, sell booze at the bar and "practice" the chants at 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 time. At least there might be some passion watching the game live, whilst it is a shit idea at least if you are going to do something do it properly.

They should have just got me to run the chant sessions.

Sure the chants would have been obscene
Sure the chants would have be liablest towards opposition players
Sure you would have covered your kids ears when you hear the third line of the chant end with "Punt"
But damn, they'd have been good

honestly these kind of things make me what to join Port Adelaide.
Anytime you want to come to come over to the dark side let me know as I could do with some help.
I'm getting on in age and struggling to keep up with an increasing demand for hubcaps. :D

Maybe. However, even in this country I see way more people wearing merchandise for American teams than for Australians teams on a day to day basis. And I reckon a good number of the people wearing the stuff don't even follow those teams all that closely (e.g. me), if at all. There are many reasons for this, including fashion, but I don't think it should be dismissed.

You have to wonder if some people employed at the club even like sport, AFL or the Crows..
Or are just there as supposed experts in their field whether it be marketing or whatever..
The shit they're coming up with screams no understanding of passion, emotion or love and understanding of the club or supporters.. As opposed to some other clubs..
