Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

Sam Reid
DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

Sam was looking like having one of his best finals ever before getting injured. Lucky for us Mason Cox got subbed out to balance it out

a good sign is is that it looked like the physios were trying to massage his adductor to see if he could get back, doubt they’d be doing that with a significant strain, so fingers crossed it’s tightness but if it’s a low grade strain, would be a very big risk to take into the granny

Yeah. Cox out when we lost Sam was a freaking godsend.

Didn't realise how much he was keeping Moore accountable until he went off. Moore having that bit extra freedom allowed them to rebound so much better.

it was far more than that ... with reid as a genuine mobile marking focal point in attack and a better-than-useful back-up ruck, we were clearly the better side

Reckon he won’t get up?
If it’s a strain, it will be so tough considering you’re using your adductors for kicking, sprinting, change of direction etc. Fingers crossed it’s more like tighness and they thought with a 30pt margin to sub him off to prevent something worse. If a strain I think I’d rather Amartey, it just sucks as Reid has been playing out of his skin this year

Reid is in hot form and is super important to us.
The hard truth is that if there is any chance he is not 100% for the GF and the injury might recur, he has to be left out

Agreed. I hope like hell whatever it is was minor. The fact they considered putting him back on the field as he was doing run throughs on the sideline does give me hope.

Hoping it was tight and simply a case of if we leave him out there he will strain/tear it which would take him out of the game anyway so better to ice it and hope we get up.

Adductor is a power muscle, don't think a jab will help it.

It's not as bad as you would think.

I do a sport that requires a lot of burst speed from my legs and have a shocking right abductor muscle.

Usually after a strain it's bad for 3-4 days, but with light movement it frees up and is operational, some pain but it doesn't stop your movement or strength.
