Who from the current one-day side won't be there in 2003?

Personally I'm starting to have doubt about the Waugh twins, especially Mark.
Both are absolute champions, and Steve will go down as one of the finest captains in history. But I feel that their batting form is slowly slipping away, and the team would be stronger if they were replaced.

I'm confident that Glen McGrath will still be around and bowling well. But what about Shane Warne?

My 2003 side would be something like this:

- Adam Gilchrist(c)
- Damien Martyn
- Ricky Ponting
- Mathew Hayden
- Michael Bevan
- Simon Katich
- Ian Harvey
- Shane Warne(vc) / Stuart MacGill
- Brett Lee
- Jason Gillespie
- Glen McGrath

- I think Warne will still be around, but MacGill is a fine replacement anyway.
- Marto should be further up the order, he's a fine batsmen, and has proven himself as an opener in the past.
- Hayden is the most improved batsmen in the world, and definitely deserves a chance.
- Katich will eventually be a regular, it's just a matter of time.
- I'm not a huge fan of Harvey's, but he's probably the best option as an all-rounder.

A very strong team, and more than capable of holding onto the world cup if you ask me.

I doubt that Martyn would open the batting when Hayden is in the team. I'd also have Symonds in the side at the expense of Harvey or Katich.

Simon Katich???????????

Seriously, he is one of the most boring slow cricketers in the country, definitely not World Cup material.

Cheers

phatandphreaky,

Simon Katich is only young and needs the opportunities to develop his skills as a one-day player. There's still plenty of time between now and the World Cup for Simon to show the selectors what he can do.

I'm not too sure about that. I think he is not only seen as a future player, but a future captain.
I think he has what it takes. Plus he's a WA boy, so I'm biased.

Also, should Australia scrap the whole all-rounder idea.
If we haven't got any one up to scratch, then why not play an extra batsmen or bowler.
Perhaps Greg Blewett should get a go. He's a talented batsmen, plus you can get a few overs of decent fast bowling from him as well.

Right on about the all-rounder - why be hell bent on using one if he's no bloody good?

However, on Blewett, his one day record is VERY ordinary.
Batting : 551 runs @ 20.40, S/R 61.97
Bowling : 14 wickets @46.14, E/R 5.17 rpo

Boof Lehmann should get a go ahead of Blewett
