Don't think it'll be the same bottom 3 two years in a row but I don't know where else to put them.

Brownlow
1. Ling/Corey (Either will do )
2. Adam Cooney
3. Chris Judd
Roughie: James Kelly

Coleman: Matthew Lloyd

Rising Star: Marc Murphy sounds to obvious and because I don't think Varcoe will get to much game time (unless injuries come in alot) then I'll go for Xavier Ellis.

I'm sorry, isn't Ellis doing the whole "Year 12 studies with minimal football"???

With the ladder id say there will be a few interstate teams (Crows, Eagles, Swans) hanging around the top for a fair while especially the Eagles because the home ground advantage plays a huge part for Vic teams heading there. Geelong have skilled which even though is still in Vic, is a daunting task for any Vic teams going there because of the huge numbers of Geelong supporters there, and it will be even harder for interstate teams because of the travel, plus we're probably the toughest team to beat (assuming injuries play no part). So i think our top spot is justified in my ladder

I'd like to see Geelong on top (and I think they might) but they always do better as the underdogs so thats why I put the 3rd on my ladder.

Kelly to win our B&F over Bartell but only one will poll extremly well in the Brownlow, havn't decided who yet.

Jack to finally get some support on Playfair as he has a shoddy first month or so before finding form and kicking 22 goals int he last 16 matches, averaging 8 marks per game.

KK to only kick 53 goals, with Otto 40. SJ, Chappers and GAJ to kick 100 between them and they will be the deadliest small forward combo in the leauge. NA to chip in with say 20 goals from 12 or so games.

Rooke to finally get recognition, aswell as Enright and Corey (but not to much so they are still secret weapons)

Ling to cut his hair late in the season, maybe.

Egan to lose form for a a bit which allwos Spencer to debut. Oh and Prismall debuts in round 6.

Wojja to be back to his best, as him and Tenace burn up the wings. Byrnes to do the same.

Gardiner to play a few games, as BF feel the need to burn down KP to get the message across that he is **** but for soem reason, bomber falls out of love with him and he dies a quick death.

Thats all i can think of at the moment, will get back to you.

Oh we will finish 2nd on the ladder.

The cats will get beat in a preliminary final by the Saints. The cats once again fall short due to lack of a quality key forward.

Premiership: GEELONG – the Cats to finally break through after everything comes together. Off to a flyer with the first three games at Skilled and we turn for home at 9-2. Importantly, the injury toll is minimal, with King and Ottens both at full fitness by round 4 and both playing out the majority of the season injury free. The forward line will be more potent with Kent and Nathan playing out of the goalsquare with Ottens resting as well, while the small forwards of Ablett, Chapman, Steve Johnson et al will be a major headache for opposition teams. Playfair will warm to the season like he did in ’05, gradually gaining confidence as the year goes on to make CHF his own (no broken jaw to ruin it this time). The backline will be impenetrable and will be the key to our flag success.

I'm very hopeful of the drought being broken, although was concerned to hear David Schwarze tip Geelong last night on SEN to win the flag - I don't rate his opinion.

One interesting caller made what I thought was a very good point - one that I've often considered. If you look at the premiers in the last 5-7 years (modern era) the eventual premier has always had a key forward to stand up in big games.....Lloyd - Carey - Hall - Brown - Lynch etc etc.

Unless Geelong has a player such as Ottens - Kingsley - N.Ablett - Playfair stand up this year then you'd suggest that history might be against us.

Having said all of that - I'm still tipping Geelong...........really have a good feel about 2006.

Here’s the facts:

Year – Premiers – Goal kickers
2005 – Sydney – Hall 2, Schneider, Jolly, Kennelly, O'Loughlin, Buchanan, Goodes
2004 – Port Adelaide – Wanganeen 4, Pickett 3, Thurstans 3, Carr, Tredrea, Dew, Lade, S Burgoyne, Kingsley, Mahoney
2003 – Brisbane – Akermanis 5, Lynch 4, Brown 2, Caracella 2, Black, Hart, Bradshaw, Leppitsch, Pike, McRae, Hadley
2002 – Brisbane – Lynch 4, Voss, Hart, Black, Akermanis, Brown, McRae
2001 – Brisbane – Power 3, Lappin 2, Lynch 2, Brown 2, Akermanis 2, Voss, Notting, Pike, Ashcroft
2000 – Essendon – Lloyd 4, Barnard 4, Caracella 3, Hird 2, Mercuri, Blumfield, Long, Alessio, Bewick, Moorcroft
1999 – Kangaroos – Bell 4, Grant 4, McKernan 3, Carey 2, Abraham 2, Motlop 2, Welsh, Sholl

Can’t agree that the eventual Premier has always had a key forward to stand up in big games. Sydney didn’t. Port didn’t really. Brisbane didn’t really in 2001.

What it does show is that no one has kicked a bag of more than 5 goals in the past 7 GFs. There's no doubt that Geelong would struggle to produce a player to kick 5 in a GF, but the stats show that doesn't matter. Even then it wasn’t a key forward that did it (Akermanis, 5, 2003). What it shows is that the Premier most often has a large spread of goalkickers with one or two players that kick 3 or more. I would have thought that this is exactly the type of game Geelong plays.

You're right.....my point was more about the contribution of a power forward throughout the year.

I remember a bloke called G.Ablett - 1989.........9 goals and we lost so I don't think it's life or death, however the odds are stacked in your favour if you go in with a power forward.

Think it could be a Saints vs Cats grand final but if the saints are at full tilt they will be very hard to beat with there forward structure.

N.Ablett i think will make the grade but i wouldn't be expecting much from him this year, 10-12 games tops as he stil has a few things to work on dues to his unorthodox junior footballing not coming thru tac cup etc, the kid can play but is a few years away

Varcoe is a gun that i am sure of, watch this kid play he is exciting

Totally agree, CE Its not so much the key forward we need its a talented forwardline that contains several "legit" game breakers, that are all capable of kicking 4-5 on their day.It wasnt Barry Hall that got them the GF, it was that mongrel that kicked that goal.(Barry did kick a very importone in the GF thou).
This is why I wanted to get another Steve Johnson type in the forwardline in the draft( McKinnley).Yes KK can kick 4-5 on a straight day; GAJ can , Dog can; Ottens can ; Chapman can ; find another tall goal option and we have enough talent to do it and to me thats NA23.
We have enough forward talent, we need to speed the ball supply to it. A quicker midfield, a more goal oriented midfield would give another 2-4 goals a game. Tenace , Varcoe, Wojo , can be big additions to our very dour, solid midfield group if they can hit targets and kick goals on the run.
Previously we have kicked a lot of goals with rebound. This is where Egan comes in. He allows Scarlett and Harley to run off and create.
If we stay fit(King and Ottens) Im very confiedent that by the end of this year we will have the guys to do it.

This is something I forgot to mention but I think it's absolutely crucial. Our midfielders just don't kick enough goals. They all have the skills and nouse to do it, they just need to push forward and hurt their opponents. An extra 1-2 goals from the midfield and a fully functioning forward line will make a world of difference.
