maybe you are right, but in Melbournes case how is it that Grimes, Trengove, Frawley, Blease, Mckenzie, Tapscott, Sylvia ect have actually become worst players over time instead of kicking on? this doesn't happen at other clubs like it does at Melbourne.

Im sure if all those where playing at clubs like Geelong Hawthorn and Collingwood they would be playing better football as theyed have better players around them. Very hard to play well in a struggling side no matter the culture and development.

Lets discuss the list.

Frawley is still a good defender - Think he made AA. Good selection.
Grimes has been injury plagued - Shown some excellent signs. Probably a good selection.
Sylvia has never produced consistent footy. Missed selection.
Trengove - Something has gone wrong. Question mark
Blease - Beginning of second round. Haven't given up yet. Question mark
Tapscott - End of first round selection. Has time on his side but seems to be limited. Question mark.
McKenzie was a rookie upgrade.

This happens at all clubs, but maybe not to the same extent as Melbourne in recent years. All top clubs have stuffed up first round selections. Failed early draft selections don't suddenly become stars at other clubs.

It makes me sad, and I hate to admit it, but Michael Hurley probably isn't in the top ten players from this draft. But he would still go top 5 due to a needs basis I'm sure.

Hurley would be lucky to be top 15 as a forward IMO.

Get him in the backline - and he'll be back up the top in a real hurry.

May be a bit harsh, he has the attack on the footy to be a forward - not sure he has the nous or the key skills (goal kicking + goal sense).

He has the good footskills, a long kick, great spoiling, great strength, good bodywork to be an elite CHB.

Thanks mate now can you email that to Bomber and Hirdy and let them know. I don't understand why they don't see it. Him and Carlisle would be an unstoppable backline duo.

AFL.com's Ratings are a bit of a joke, but this was done in one of the other threads and I was interested to see how the 2008 class (Nation/PSD) would fare.

1. Naitanui (563)
2. Beams (498)
3. Sloane (492)
4. Shuey (482)
5. Rich (481)
6. Rockliff (466)
7. Redden (447)
8. Zaharakis (435)
9. Sidebottom (432)
10. Hartlett (422)

-Hartlett would have been 7-8th had I done this 3 weeks ago
-Hannebery and Ziebell the notable exclusions
-Ratings were very harsh on Hurley and Hannebery (is at 347, expected a bigger increase for this season but the only gained 20 points)

Its about right. Nic Nat #1 Sloane and Bemas even.

I would say it's about right. I don't think you could make a case that Ziebell or Hannebery are definitively better than any of the players listed. I think it highlights just how freakishly deep this draft goes.

Hannebery is definitely a better player than Rich and there's no way he's not top 10. He's right near the top in terms of achievements to date, top 1 or 2 in finals and arguably playing the best footy of all this season.

interesting, no room for a 200cm ruck forward that has speed and agility,

wonder how long it will take for the bigfooty groupthinkers to catch on....

Yeah, not yet.

Definition of a dumb footballer if I've ever seen one (and I've seen a few... Lynden Dunn) - when he gets past that he'll be a legitimate player.

Great list. This is pretty much what I had in mind. Nic-Nac-Paddy-Whack is clearly in front with the 2-5 you can go in any order. I'm actually surprised to see Hartlett smash through into the top 10 after his injuries etc. Any other year and Hannebery would be top 10. So much depth from the top of the draft to the rookie draft. Love the Lions 3-Rs all 10 year players for the club.

by the end of their careers the only player better than Vickery on the 2008 draft list will be NICNAT, and that will be arguable, by that time, all the bigfooty groupthinkers will be gone, they will either have jobs, or finish high school or both.

Groupthinking is better than deluded thinking.

Doubt it he isn't even top 5 kpp at this stage. He's probably be about 20-25 in the draft.

Zac Clarke will rise up this list over the next year. Starting to really impact games now he has been given the opportunity to lead the ruck.

Suban is also pushing himself up after a disappointing last few years. Has been pushed by Ross to lift his fitness and standards and has responded.

Ditto for Walters another 2008 draftee and Clancee Pearce (top 5 in the AFL for disposal efficiency for those with over 300 disposals - not bad for someone not drafted because of his kicking style and another 2008 draftee told to pull his finger out).

Ballas and Hill some nice icing on the cake from the 08 draft for us.

Edit: so much talent in that draft though. Melbourne´s outcome is hard to believe.
