Draft Review 2008 - Re-do the 2008 draft

Funny that you shoot Ziebell and Hurley down the list yet happy to pump up Hartlett mostly on potential. In reality the three should all be around the same mark.

He didn't say that - he acknowledged Hartlett was about right.

It's interesting that even though the 2008 draft was so long ago people are still talking 'potential'.

I think I'd consider Yarran, Garlett, Schoenmakers and Jackson Trengove in top 20, probably Mike Pyke too.

I never put him up, I thought he was about right. I said I'm hoping he pushes up the list this year.

Was thinking about that question this morning. Definitely the best player from the draft (Hanneberry close behind).
But the question is, where is the top 10 at? Hartlett is probably playing the best this year.

Sidebottom at 11 is playing better than all of the top 10. And Broadbent at 38 is probably playing 2014 better than the majority of the top 10. It feels so underwhelming this year.

For the sake of it, my current top 10 of the 2008 AFL draft (National, Rookie and PSD) would be:

1. Dayne Beams
2. Tom Rockliff
3. Dan Hannebery
4. Rory Sloane
5. Steele Sidebottom
6. Jack Redden
7. Jack Ziebell
8. Hamish Hartlett
9. David Zaharakis
10. Nic Naitanui

Sloane and Hannebery is an interesting comparison. Both elite when it comes to running and toughness but probably lack the polish to match it with the very best players.

(To state the obvious) Rockliff would have to be one of the greatest draft pick-ups of all time. Incredible oversight from all clubs.
My first ever TAC cup GF was the year Steele and Rocky played for the Bushies. From memory, Rocky started at full forward and kicked 5 in the first half, Steele had 3. Rocky went on the ball and finished with 30 touches, Steele kicked 7 in the second half. It was a two man show, incredible oversight indeed.

Zaharakis is not top ten now, having a shocking season.

Arguably the shittest draft ever at this point
Deepest draft ever, I count 51 players who either have or will go on to play 100+ games
