Suck it up all over 15 clubs. You just gave us a star as another Wells steal at pick 40 :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Troy Taylor would love him :thumbsu::thumbsu:

The rucks slipped waaaaayy down. Is Vardy going to be any different to West?

Agreed, although I think Vardy might be an even bigger steal in time and fits our needs perfectly! Christensen will slot in nicely as our midfield ages

Official Picks

Pick 56-Joshua Cowan

Very interesting

Looks like a good midfielder albeit lightly bodied so might take a while to come on.

I am very surprised we didn’t take a tall forward though (maybe rookie draft), but I trust wellsy

Same here. Thought we would atleast take one. Obviously might be going tall in the rookie draft..

I guess it can be said Wells has done it again...

Menzel at #17 was a good pick and called with some definite conviction from Wells haha

The surprise for me has been pick 28 Mitchell Duncan...crafty boy this Wells bloke

Pick 40- Thank you very much....What more can you say?

Pick 42- Was touted as being the first ruck man picked but obviously all the rucks fell out of favour...I will take Vardy for sure

Pick 56- Lastly another shock Josh Cowan...North Ballarat Rebels WTF?! obvious rough diamond...He has done it again with a bit of a unknown from my point of view....that has to be a good sign given recent examples...love it

Wasnt our 2nd pick a tallish forward?

Time will tell.

Bottom line is we needed a ruckman and we got the one rated as the best in the draft, in the 3rd round, so we've gotta give credit to Wellsy there!

Mitchell Duncan

At 188 cm is more a SJ sized 3rd tall rather than the FF/CHF I expected us to go for

But I do think he'll be a good player though

Wells on SEN

- Happy (obviously)
- Had a lot to choose from at each pick
- Said 1st & 2nd picks played seniors this year at their clubs and are capable of playing seniors for us next year

Was a pretty short interview, meh. Disappointed I bothered to take notes on it

Without sounding like a fanboy who pumps his own mates up, I know Josh Cowan quite well. And while he may not be built for the rigours of AFL just yet, he is going to make it IMO. He has worked so hard on his game the past few seasons and is just going to get better and better once he learns from the best of the best and puts on some muscle.

Loves to break the lines and is a very, very good decision maker with the footy.

Oh and his nickname is 'Pinny'.....any questions, I'm happy to answer guys.

Mitch Duncan is the steal in that. Christensen's height, lack of outstanding athletic ability and weight issues means we paid about right for him IMO. That said, still stoked to have him. Vardy I'm not entirely sold on, both in terms of need and as a player, and I think it's telling that in a draft with bugger all ruckmen he still slid to pick 42.

But Duncan...was being talked up as a first rounder after the champs and whilst some guys had more spectacular camps and thus shot up in calculations, he still looks an awesome prospect. Has everything needed to become a gun modern midfielder.

Hey guys, very jealous about Josh 'Pinny' Cowan.

I've played a lot of junior footy with him, and the entire town of Daylesford were holding high hopes for him, very excited to see him get picked up.

Has good skills that have improved recently, he is an excellent reader of the play and his decision making is top notch. Tested really well at draft camp. Has great endurance and good pace (can't remember his results, beep test was around 14 IIRC).
His 30 meter sprints were noticable better than his 20 meter, which I figured meant he was a bit slow off the mark, but I spoke to him a few days ago and he said he wore the wrong shoes for the 20 meter sprints and kept slipping. His 20 meter results were far better earlier in the year.

He is very skinny, and an outside mid, but isn't scared to through his light frame around. With a bit of muscle and an AFL pre-season or two, he might well develop into an inside/outside mid. At this stage he looks best utilising his pace on a wing or coming off half back. Very coachable, a great attitude and will give it his all. If he doesn't make it in the AFL, it wont be throughg lack of trying.
Probabaly seems like I'm very biased, but really he is a talent, and the last bloke from Daylesford taken late in the draft turned out alright :) - Over 300 games and was robbed of a brownlow in '97 (Still furious ).

I know he has worked very hard to get here, and will be keen to impress imediately. Good luck Josh :thumbsu:

Beat me to it D2T :thumbsu:

Thanks great to hear...bit of a smokey...a Stephen Wells special, I was a bit surprised...sounds like he has a good character and wants the chance. Welcome to him and all the best.

I'd say Geelong has become the second, or in some cases, first choice of club for the people of Daylesford (no gay jokes please haha). Everyone is so wrapt for him. And like Banga said, the last player to come out of the town was pretty handy....

Cannot find that much on our first pick. Seems like he was picked earlier than expected by most pundits and over Griffiths, who a few liked. Anybody know much about this young player ?
