NFL 2009 NFL - Week 5

That's a game im iffy about too. I tipped Jags, something like 5-8 CR, but I reckon Seattle has a 50:50 chance in that game. May change my pick actually.
We might pass like ships in the night. I have Seattle but might go the other way eventually.

Seahawks will win... not even a question in my mind... SF/Atl toughest game in my opinion...

It's funny how ppl see things differently.
I see Atlanta being sure things to win this game. No doubt. However, just the vagaries of AE-CRs, I have tipped Atlanta with a low CR like 3-5 "just in case" im wrong.
But in my gut Atlanta all the way.
SF dont have the offensive firepower to beat Atlanta, while both teams have very solid defenses. Thus, Atlanta to offensively out-last/out-produce SF.

Don't disagree, but I think momentum counts for a lot, and the Niners have it in buckets atm, and I think they have a better D than most think. Saying that, the Falcons have been in a funk it seems, and wouldn't surprise me one bit if they broke out and won. SF with a CR of 1 for me.

Again I am going the other way. Atlanta are too short with their passing this season and SF will just stifle any big gains. Hill will step up and have a big game. SF at the 'Stick all the way.

Well, my AE opinion isn't worth a lot at the moment compared to you two.
Doing ok in CR overall and 3XKO, sucking at ND and FG, but you too are doing far better overall in all comps combined.
So an outside observer would do well to pay heed to your tips, not mine.
In saying that tho, momentum is fickle. It can change from game to game, training week to training week, and inside a game multiple times over.

It's unreliable imo to count on momentum. Instead at the base of it, I just see Atlanta as being too well-coached both sides of the ball, and too talented both sides of the ball in comparison to SF, whose offense cant really be relied on, not clutch by any means.

If both defenses hold their own, which I see happening, then it'll be that Atlanta has more offensive outlets it can rely on than SF has. That'll be the thing that comes out of the post-game talk.

If Matt Ryan could learn to use Gonzalez properly then they might have something. Still working the kinks out of that duo. Oh and Hill is 7-0 at home as a starter.:) Just some food for thought.

M.Turner > G.Coffee
R.White > J.Morgan
M.Jenkins > I.Bruce
Gonzalez = V.Davis
M.Ryan >/= S.Hill
J.Norwood > M.Robinson
Stuff like that is where in a clutch you can rely on someone to pick up the slack. Like the Aussie cricket batsmen used to do, someone always there if others struggled.
But Niners are more like an English cricket team imo, there's only one or two stars tops there, and sometimes they fail, and the rest are too unreliable/inconsistent/young.

Hill isn't a bum at all, I rate him as a very reliable QB if unspectacular unhyped like Ryan is.

Not saying you're wrong to tip Niners. Just saying why Im tipping Falcons, as wrong or right as I may end up being.

Also, I think Camsmith is right, there's too many Away teams being picked as winners with decent CRs. It very seldom if ever works out that way where a lot of away teams win. Im always re-looking over my tips looking for those Home teams that MIGHT win despite the odds, because they're gonna have to come from somewhere. Usually i find that home teams win something like 10-12 games in a full 16 game schedule every week.

Like I said tho, my AE form isn't to crow about compared to you and Fuey, so if i were an outsider I'd probably take your tip ahead of mine anyway. But you know, im me and my brain has a mind of its own, if that makes any sense.

Looking forward to the 49ers v Falcons game.

Renews an old NFC West rivalry.

This game is pretty simple to pick. If the 49ers can balance their defense and keep Gonzalez in check and Abraham out of their backfield they win.

The Falcons defense has been pretty average so the 49ers will move the ball. On the other hand I am worried that if they key in on Gonzalez they run the risk of Turner or White making a big play.

it's one of the toughest games I had to choose between

IF gore was fine I would go with San Fran

but without Gore, We may actually stop their O

and that defence of San Fran. I dont know much about it, but for the whole Singletary factor, I'm actually worried they may be able to stop us

to what Mike Singletary replies "oh yeah, I like that kinda party!!"

Didn't feel this was worth a thread of it's own so I'll chuck it in here, but do yourself a favour and watch this vid from Gruden if you haven't seen it already (and no it's not because he gives props to Saints players).

If always loved him as a coach, no so much for his coaching but what he brings to the game. Nothing better than seeing a team beat up on one his teams and brining out the "Chuckie" in Gruden - always worth a laugh.

I love his passion, his attitude and he's been a real highlight this year in his commentary and vid's like this one. Hopefully he gets another coaching gig because I reckon he's still a better coach than most going around but from a selfish perspective I hope stays in the box rather than the sidelines and keeps making videos like this.

Nice find, JD. Gruden has a very big personality, just as a person. He grew up inside football, his dad a coach, so he has a great breadth of knowledge.

He has his flaws as a coach, like all do, but really he was the best thing that happened to the Raiders till Davis' ego/paranioa ruined it all.

Thanx for the link JD. I enjoyed that. :thumbsu: (enjoy much of these informative NFL film docos regardless of team).

Also vindicates the ND Divisional honoury listings (by mcgarnacle) of John Mackey
and Broadway Joe this season. :thumbsu:

Also worth mentioning that Gruden even states something I knew all along and
that Big Ben's playmaking capacity. Game Manager my arse. I'd like to hear what Gruden has to say about that... just to dispell the jealousy that still lingers. Everyone talks about the damning statistic of 22% of the lowest QB rating in history.. totally overlooked his 2004 rookie season, his 2005 play-off
games.. I like Gruden... speaks the truth. :thumbsu:

I thought you'd like that Woodson. ;)

You know I'm a fan of Big Ben so I found his comments on him interesting too.

The recent ex-coaches that have joined commentary teams make a refreshing change from the pin-heads we usually hear pushing out the same old tired lines.

Must say I enjoyed the vision of him sledging the ref's on the sidelines too. Funny stuff! :thumbsu:

He WAS a game manager, now hes a play maker.

Don't know why thats so hard to admit Woodson...

Personally Zarko I reckon that's nonsense.

Eli is a game manager, Big Ben takes on defenses. Always has.

Ben is actually an old-school QB, not affraid of contact and is a beast of a bloke to bring down. Nobody makes the passes he makes with defenders hanging off him. He doesn't chase stats he chases wins. That is the complete opposite of a game manager.
