*insert Matthew Watson here* at pick 18 in all your phantom drafts.

Even though the 98 kg Watson couldn't outbody Darling and chase him down after being nudged under the ball, he will be a star and a steal at pick 18. ;)

If Watson was playing against Carlton, a smart coach would rotate Waite, Henderson and our athletic rucks forward to get a mismatch. Or play White or Austin as defensive mobile tall forwards to negate him.

Pick Cameron Guthrie and draft the best tall defender with our second pick.

Guthrie could be the class medium defender and run with player that we need.

A possible upgrade on Joseph or even Carrazzo wouldn't hurt us if we draft Guthrie.

I'm not sure what draft pick, but I've been told that Carlton have told Darcy Barden who plays at the Knights that we'll pick him up.

He has also had interest at Brisbane, the team he supports, but has had a few interviews at Carlton and gone in for a medical/physical test last week.

He's a quality kid that will work his butt off if given a chance. :thumbsu:
This Cats fan claims that we're after Cameron Delaney.
Have had a chat with one of my Carlton mates, apparently they are very keen on Delaney. If they cant get Watson (which is very, very doubtfull) with their 1st round pick then dont expect Delaney to be there in the 50's.

As you say, Barden will give you everything and is very good overhead.

Our running coach would need a raise but ;)

I think the recruiting of Guthrie would allow Bryce to play on the ball.... and then they could swap from time to time.

However, I think WH and SR are worried that if they don't recruit a highly rated tall at #18 ... the "fans" would scalp them.

think we may regret not getting an upgrade in first rounders off adelaide, we are very keen on jack darling, however the one play who we are hoping to slide is Smedts that would allow us to push gibbys into the midfield

also anyone heard that we want to rookie jack frost?

this kind of talk is all a bit of fun, but my understanding is that at the end of the day they tend to have a list of 50 - 60 and cross them off......

In other words we have an interest in 60 blokes. not 5-10, kind of pointless listing them all

Cam comes from a great junior football club in Sunbury as well - quality young man from a quality family. :)

This Lamb's no show pony

WA's hottest draft prospects
Jamie Cripps: His performances for WA in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships were only reasonable, but in the second half of the season he shone as a wingman in East Fremantle’s senior team. In one game he kicked five goals. In a final, he had two magic runs that showcased his ability to be an 80-metre player. Cripps grabbed the ball at half-back and took two bounces before firing at goal from outside 50. Some say Cripps’s performances with the Sharks late in the season had him ranked in the club’s top-five players. He’s likely to go in the 15-20 range at the national draft.

Speed on show at WA combine

I'd rather hear celtic_pride's thoughts than Daffy's.

Didnt we get the next best available KPP in the 2000 Draft - as much as I liked Luke Livingstone the Number 4 Draft pick was an albatross around his neck - hopefully there will be less pressure on our Pick 18 in this years draft.

Best KPP at 18. Best available at 33. Probably a mature age tall later
:thumbsd:

Pick 18 is a late enough selection where you can pick for need, but passing on a player we rate as a class act would be a bad move. Hughes should be allowed to draft a gun onballer/wingman/HBF if one slides to 18. If the best available KPP is a huge reach, then we should let him go.

Carlton will be going for need, at pick 18 which is obvious to everyone, but there a number of players that if they slip to us will be snatched up way before the one we need comes by.

Pretty stupid to pass on good talent that has slipped.

To categorically state that we will draft for need at 18 is ridiculous. With a pick that low in the first round, you might not even have the choice. I accept that if there are blokes we like left at our pick who are KP, we will likely take them, even if that means passing on a midfielder who we rate higher.

But what if there are no first (or even second) round quality talls left at 18? You think Hughes is going to take someone he ranks as late second or third round talent? Not a chance, he'll take best available then draft talls with the rest.
