2010 International Rules

What a boring, dull game.

The Irish whinging has turned this into a terrible spectacle. The AFL players were able to run rings around them and that was without being allowed to tackle.

Seriously, with the rules the way they are, they might as well ban the tackle. Some awful free kicks were paid for some of the softest tackles I've seen.

Wasn't there once an Irish journalist who said that AFL required no skill with the oval ball and that it mustn't be a hard game if Irish imports can adapt so easily. Well, surely Gaelic must be even more so considering the AFL players proved they have more skill with the Gaelic ball than the Irish players do themselves.

Seriously it's time they scrapped this rubbish.

It's an irrelavant fixture that nobody on either side thinks is fair, and generally the public couldn't give a shit about it.

Thought our smalls like eddie and Banfield were good. Gilbert was unimpressive (Spose all the talls up front were).
Agree with all of that. Swan as usual got a tonne of it, Cross was in our top 3, and Goodes took a couple of nice grabs up front. Fletcher is a rock in goals, nothing he could do about that under. Also happy to see Danger score an over.:) I love it, not sure why people are complaining.

Apparently it's a bit heavier than a soccer ball but similar dimensions, so you may be right about the droppy being an option.

Having played a few seasons of Gaelic footy - drop kicks can work well. The ball is smaller and heavier than a soccer ball and goes straighter for longer than a soccer ball. When travelling fast it is hard to catch because of the heavier mass and force, you wouldn't want to try heading it.

I recall some Aussie players using drop kicks in previous series.

Can't see Ireland taking the series now. Australia can only get better with the round ball and Varcoe and Wojcinski to expand the bench further. Looks like Malthouse has a pretty good game plan going to shut down the Irish attacks.

Came from the irish ref every time, but you're going to get that. They come from a non tackling game so they will be pretty soft on tackling. The free against Crossy was a bit stiff, Clarke fell over into Cross's knee all he did was stand his ground.

30,000 in provincial Limerick gave a s**t about it. Crowds average 100,000 for each two match series since it began, so clearly someone gives a s**t about. What you mean to say is that you don't. Good for you.

Uhhhh, boys...

Are we serious?

We're criticising another game for paying such free kicks?

I'm saying it was expected that soft free kicks would occur. Even softer then the ones we complain about in the real game. ;)

Noob question, but what determines who wins the series overall? Is it cumulative points, or does a team have to win both matches?

I missed the comeback... How'd they get a run on?

Was only 7 points in the end, they could pinch it.But they weren't...

Smileys really are moronic.
They scored a good goal, which knocked it back six, and an over or two.

Im very surprised we didnt send a Commentator over there
That Irish guy, unsurprisingly knew nothing about our game, and what he did know he was clearly reading off a sheet (ie drawn grand final, names of clubs)

Ger Canning is a very good commentator but anyone would find it difficult to be up to speed on a whole new sport within a week. I thought he did a good job considering.

The game itself was pretty poor. Ireland were absolutely shocking, especially in front of goal. Far too many behinds that were embarrassingly cheered by the 'Ole Ole' brigade.

Australia were decent, especially across half back. Goodes was the stand out man as expected but Swan and Montagna were good and Fletcher was very solid in goal under the high ball.

Malthouse employed his Collingwood tactics of applying plenty of forward pressure. Banfield in particular did this very effectively and cause plenty of panic for Cluxton, Canty and co.

Ireland didn't use Brogan enough, and you could see the likes of Kennelly hoofing the ball towards goal rather than trying to find a target. That cost them dearly imo.

Australia really should go on and claim the series from here and hopefully the game in Croker is a bit more skillful, though that might not be hard.
