I posted this on the Draft/Trading discussion forum without any response from anyone, but I really liked the look of Brad McKenzie from SA in the U/18s State game.

He looked like a really smooth moving player, with composure and a beautiful left foot kick, any chance we (Essendon) could draft this kid??

Lachie Whitfield..watched him vs vic metro at Etihad and was extremely clean and poised with disposal..

Thoughts?

If we can pick up Brody Mihochek in the 4th/3rd round I will be STOKED, I think being a Tasmanian he could slip this far too.
From the local games I have seen him play he looks like a real goer, makes his opposing players look stupid.

Whitfield is 2012, likely top 3 pick. For our first if Tyson, Grigg or Kavanagh (in order) can slide would love them, but i doubt that. Nelson or Greene more realistic.

I have seen a fair bit of Shane Nelson.

Strengths:
Endurance/speed combo, accumulator (avg 32 posses in colts this year), can play as a small forward and kick goals (bags of 3 and 4 as a midfielder in colts)

Weaknesses: can get pushed off the footy, is lightweight and struggled against bigger bodies in seniors so far, kicking is questionable and lacks penetration

Similar player: Hard to find one but i see a bit of Liam Shiels about him, a few have said S.Hill but he doesn't possess anywhere near the kick of Hill in regards to penetration and accuracy.

Can't happen. Wish it would but it won't. Others (GCS, West Coast, and even Collingwood) are in a far stronger bargaining position.

early days for the draft. I remember around this time last year Heppell was nowhere near our grasp. Hirdy has the magic touch :D

There's a young fwd from SA that they are gonna get as a 17yo and adelaide wanted. They are keen to draft then trade. Wish i could remember his name, but after Darling, i'd love us to recruit another KP tall that isnt a project player (i.e another Hurley).

Hey ant, thanks for all your great work.

Any chance we could get brett o'hanalon late in the draft, seems to be getting amongst the best a fair bit for stingrays and knows how to take a mark and kick a goal? thanks.

You don't think Jimmy Webster from Tassie is a chance? He gets injured a lot but he is one of the most highly rated blokes to come out of Tassie since Richmond's superstar strawberry haired whining full forward.

I'd go for all the good 'over-age' kids - Brown, Kennedy, and so on. Clubs were giving GC a minor pick upgrade for kids they'd have taken anyway. Real value there IMHO.

Not all that interested in the 17yos.
Need a crumber, a real pacy small back or tagger, and midfielders. Probably a tall in the mix but not a huge priority.
