Review 2011 Player Ratings

Not entirely sure about Melksham. Wraps on this forum seem to be huge for him but to me he just seems like a vanilla mid.

Hasn't got the skill set or endurance to be an outside mid but he doesn't have the strength or body to be an effective inside mid.

Needs to have a big pre season to build mass and endurance so he can be effective in both those roles. 3rd season is meant to be the breakout season so I'll see how he goes I guess.

Far too high in general, as the main one. For a team that finished 8th and got smashed in a final you'd can't really justify so many 7+ scores.

Agree with this. If Stanton was a 9.5 he'd be in the All-Australian team (or, rather, he'd have been cruelly overlooked like Scott Thompson).

Within the spectrum of the ratings, there were only a few I really disagreed with. Stanton and Zaharakis I think are too highly ranked, and I reckon Sam Lonergan should be much higher - may have missed the back half of the year, but he was among our best until then IMO (and definitely a best-22 player when fully fit).

I took my ratings within the context of Essendon's year. They're not ratings against the rest of the competition, just within the team environment. I probably should have made that clearer.

Stanton probably should have got close to the All Australian team, given his year. Compare his season to Dale Thomas. Stats are very similar

He is close to the best complete (inside and outside) midfielder on our list (Stanton is better). With more size and fitness and experience he will be a player for sure.

Stats schmats  I don't think Stanton was our best player across the whole year. Played some outstanding games, also played some shockers.

Couldn't believe that Stanton's stats were better than Daisy's.

Bloody hell..

Edit: They're probably identical and not really favouring Stanton or Daisy.

Nearly all stats are equal, but clearances and tackles favour Stanton.

Not that it means he had a better year or deserves an AA spot.

Thomas probably has more of an impact on moments - an X-Factor, if you like the term, whereas Stants is a bit steadier. Plus, Thomas is in a far better team. Would be interesting to see how each player went if they played for the other team.

If Knights stayed, you would have seen them on an equal playing field.

Are you guys suggesting Stanton would've been a better player under Knights?

I read it that if Thomas was playing at Essendon under Knights and Stanton playing at Collingwood under Malthouse, they'd be on a level playing field... Not sure if I read it right...

#1 Haha. 1/10
#2. Hmm. Not bad, Rick. Not in best 22 calculations, and as a 26yo that's not a good thing, but might well be kept.

#41 Fiddle-dee-dee potatoes
#42 Unsure. Really.
#43 Plays like a Franga bogan too. One to go on with.
