You have Mayes, Stringer and Macrae gone by 11
Add Whitfield, Toumpas and Grundy, that's already 6
Wines and O'Rourke, that's 8
Then there are two more spots to fill out of the likes of
Plowman, Jaksch thats 10 already.
With Daniher at 10

Therefore this means that AT LEAST one of

Whitfield, Grundy, Toumpas, Wines, O'Rourke, Plowman, Jaksch, Stringer, Mayes and Macrae will be available at our pick.

Add onto that the fact that Menzel and Garlett are both probably top 10 talents but that they both have issues, (injury and behaviour)
All it takes is for someone to take one of those two early
Or Jaksch, Plowman, Shaw and Clurey (the top 4 KPP's) to be picked up (Western Bulldogs could be lookng at a forward, as could brisbane and WBD, GWS could use a young defender like Plowman, brisbane could take Plowman)

If a few of those go then one of the second band of midfielders (behind Toumpas and Whitfield)
Wines, O'Rourke, Stringer, Macrae, Mayes will fall to us.

Mayes looks a gun and would be amazing if he falls pass 6-7, Jaksch looks a serious talent, although we have young talls most of them have question marks, and a quality 10 year centre half back/Centre half forward would not go astray.

Doubt Jaksch will go earlier than 10. Wouldn't mind picking up Menzel for ourselves but yes, would be handy if someone takes a gamble. Port may reach a bit for a South Australian.

Tippett perhaps being forced to the draft adds another dimension. Tomorrow night everyone can finally start working on their draft permutations. Phew

At this stage i have:

1, Whitfield
2. Grundy
3. Toumpas
4. Wines
5. Stringer

Pretty sure on those

6. Orourke ( Plowman or Garlett)
7. Mayes (McCrae or Vlaustuin or Menzel)
8. Plowman ( Jaksch or McCrae)
9. McCrae ( Garner orMenzel)
10. Daniher
11. Jaksch ( Vlautuin or Menzel or Garlett or Kennedy)

I'm going for Jaksch. Completes a future spine we then build around. I love Hendo at CHB with Watson, Jamo and McCarthy as options for his big partners.

Jaksch to me compliments Mitchell and or Levi and McCarthy well. Not often you get the pick of the KPF's in a draft. I wouldn't pass it up. Really like Jaksch.

Vlaustuin is our perfect hardball winner. Only question seems to be is he good enough for a Pick 11? If he is then very tempting.

Garlett or Menzel if we are in a high risk but high upside mood.

Kennedy i really like but is he a good match with our own pocket rocket in Murph. Can you have 2 small guys working together in modern footy? Not sure. Kennedy i think could be a real good player.

Roll on tomorrow night so we can get away from the hack trading frenzy of the last fortnight lol.

In order of preference i would have them at

#1 Stringer (Recovers from broken leg will be a star)
#2 Macrae (height and skill, best on ground in TAC final i believe would be great)
#3 Kennedy (small, but fast and skilled, if he was taller would be higher but he is very short)
#4 Lonergan (inside player we desperately need, big bodied, would make an impact)
#5 Garner (seems like he could be a decent pick)
#6 Vlastuin (inside and tackler, big bodied, imapact, would be happy with)
#7 Garlett (flash, skill, talent and can develop up forward till ready to play midifeld, offield and mentality an issue though)
#8 Colqhoun (more of a half back flanker than a midfielder, good skills, accumlator but can't see us picking up more outside flanking types)
#9 Mayes (more of a medium forward than a midfielder, i think we'll be going in the direction of a more pure mid)

Don't see us taking Menzel, LARS surgery and all
I'm hoping we dont take Jaksch or Clurey as i don't think we need talls
Plowman i would be happy with but i don't think he will reach us.
Lonergan ahead of Mayes or Garlett?

Lonergan ahead of Mayes or Garlett?
I know of Garlett, I know his lack of commitment in the past, i know his vices, i know he's a good player, but i want a 200 game player.
Mayes would be played more as a third tall Walker style role and i would prefer a 100% bonafide mid.
Mayes and Jaksch may be better players than a Lonergan or Kennedy or Vlastuin, but i think we have enough KPP's (unless Plowman was available)

The first pick a nice inside midfielder would be great, but some speed on the wing would be nice.
Think we need more grunt than outside speed and class if Gibbs, Yarran and Lucas step into the midfield next year.

Character should come first if we can't split them.

There's something to be said for a deep midfield that has Judd, Carrazzo, Robinson, Murphy, Gibbs, Bell, Simpson, Walker, Curnow, Mclean, Lucas, O'Keeffe, Yarran, Collins and Vlastuin/Kennedy as depth and part of the rotations.

Kennedy could be a good one-two punch with Murphy, but I'd love another big body if Mclean breaks down again.

If we draft for need, then I hope we get a shot at Jaksch.

Do we think you can look at it from the point of view of teams needs?
Would that change anything compared to a best 1-10 talent list?

GWS: 1,2,3 = Whitfield, Toumpas & Grundy seems quite plausible (Good mids and the best of the talls)
Melbourne: 4 = Stringer (X-factor required having secured Viney and a tall for next year)
Dogs: 5 & 6 = Plowman & Garlett (They need a quality defender and speed around the contest. They won't get a power forward so do they go like this?)
Port: 7 = Wines (May need a quality extractor)
Brisbane: 8 = Mayes (A need for the Lions)
Richmond: 9 = Garner (Quality kid and he barracks for Richmond. :) Maybe the Tigers think they're covered with mids right now and would mind some mid forward support)
Essendon: 10 = Daniher (Obviously)

Carlton: 11 = ................................................ O'Rourke, Macrae and Menzel still available. Which one to take?

Yeah i was thinking along the lines but not as specific
For example i don't know if WBD are crying out for speed around the contest so i don't think Garlett is a certainty.
Would Richmond pick up Garner, he did support them but are they that worried about that sort of thing?
Will Melbourne take Stringer? It's their only pick in the top 10, they've traded on their other picks to get Hogan et al so they NEED to make #4 a hit, if they still had #3 and #4 i could see them taking stringer at #4 but would they risk him not regaining his form, is #4 too high for him after his leg? plus they already have Watts, now Stringer is a rich mans Watts, but they already kind of have that x-factor if they care to develop him.

Still think Vlastuin could slip in pretty high. Macrae and Stringer are unknowns in regards to whether they'll go top 10.

What are Brisbane's needs? Are they in need of a KPD? They might reach for Jaksch if Plowman is taken.

Wines i think will go to Melb at 4

Doggies will go Stringer & Plowman (unless wines slips then he will go to the dogs with McCarthy love for contested beasts). However if Stringer doesnt get picked up by the dogs he has every chance to slip till our pick.

My preference would be for players who will be around our pick are:
1. Stringer
2. O'Rourke (doubt he will slide)
3. Kennedy (people are underating him because of his size, there is a high possibility he could end up the best player in this draft. Thumping kick, Burst speed, Hard at it, and kicks goals. remember reading an article from one of the recruiters saying if he was around 182cm he would be on par with whitfield for #1)
4. McRae
5. Garlett
6. Menzel

Brisbane is a tough one they need someone up forward to replace Brown and they are pretty light in that area. Dont see Lisle becoming a dominant forward. So think Jachks could fit in here. Think they will target a KP over a mid for 1st pick considering they have Rockcliff, Redden, Polec etc.

You would think they would be, JOno getting very old, Merret too

With Redden Rockliff Rich Zorko and Hanley they have a decent crop of yound mids too

There aren't any worthwhile forwards to pick at 8 or so, that shouldn't even be a consideration.

Would be a real boost for us if they take Jaksch.

Had a look at the Lions board, they're actually weighing up Mason Shaw at pick 8...Membrey would be ideal for them if he was 5cms taller.

5cm taller, .2 second quicker over 20m and could run an extra 2 levels of his beep test... also if he did not have the turning circle of the queen mary. :P

The boy O'Rourke has been partying up big time since school has finished and he is not looking after himself ( or his chances ) over the past few weeks - might have been noticed by a few recruiters and could very well slide. ;)
