Unfortunately, if GWS want 5 & 6 for Martin, I can't see 6 for Lee (top 30ish pick) and Martin sitting with them at all.
Depends what others offer them, but I tend to agree we'll have to get something else in there if we want Lee as well.

I dream of the day we don't treat ruckman lke FFs

For example:
Campbell: just because he played up forward this year doesn't mean he is a forward. If anything he is a backup #1 ruckman
Minson: He is our best #1 ruckman clearly
Roughead: Like to see him get more time in the backline. His length makes up for a lack of pace compared to some key forwards. Can see him thriving in certain matchups. Has some nice backman instincts
Cordy: Looks a little lost in the ruck. But that doesn't mean he is a FF. He is more likely a forward pocket with a complimentary FF like Jake Stringer. He has some talent but I don't know where his best position is.

....Casboult: Unlikely he comes but I personally like him more than Ayce Cordy. More of a natural forward. I'm not saying we should trade for him because of the price but I think he brings a lot more than Ayce Cordy.

It would be tricky but maybe we could work casboult into the Lake, Pick 27 for pick 11 trade somehow

I really really like the Lake & pick 27 for pick 11 trade. Hopefully Dayle Garlett :D

I'd rather see young backs like Talia, Roughead and roberts and young forwards like jones, grant and even cordy see game time....and bring in a quality young talent as well.

Everyone should get off Skinners back. Maybe if Ayce plays at a level down forward to warrant people calling him a FF then you can get upset at him, but considering Ayce hasn't set the world alight it's more incredible that he has so many supporters. Potential is one thing, achieving that is another. Perhaps you all need a happy medium, Ayce isn't the worst player, and certainly has shown he may have what it takes to develop up forward, but for now, he's not a player defenders would be too worried about.

Casboult getting seriously overrated in this thread. He's played 6 games and is an inconsistent kick (aka, bad kick). Nothing we don't already have in Jones and Cordy. Would be pissed off if we offered a 2nd round pick for him.
I'd be quite happy if you did.

Casboult's currency may well have tipped over the reality.
I doubt that the Dogs would give up pick #27 for Casboult, but that may well depend on what you see around that mark.
No. It won't happen.

Probably more likely we were just getting over-excited on this thread because of the lack of something real to critique. I for one said some crazy things about Casboult, got a little bit overexcited. Let's never speak of it again.

You're not alone Tommy.

At this time of year everyone else' players are worth more than your own. Player values become drastically inflated.
Casboult's efforts in the senior squad this year were about as good as could be expected and well surpassed what I could have dreamt.
I just have doubt that he'd be able to keep that up for 26 weeks a year.

Well, he will feel right at home in our side. We have some of the worst disposers of the ball in the AFL at the moment. Maybe the captain can take him under his wing :D

Off the subject of Casboult... Do you guys reckon pick 6 is enough for MD pick 1 or will we have to give 5 or even a lesser talented player?
If we got that pick, would we take Martin or Hogan?
Are we linked to any of the picks/players?

- Dogs have been linked with Jack Martin - apparently have done "extensive research"
- Melbourne have been linked with both Martin and Hogan but more Hogan
- GWS initially wanted both picks 5 & 6 but that is extremely unlikely
- Hard to know at this stage what it will take to get Martin

Don't GWS have to trade Hogan and Martin? Means we should get him cheaper, Pick 6 is probably the highest pick they will get offered for Martin and unless another club just below us offers them a 1st rounder and something else we should only need Pick 6 to land Martin.

GWS have to trade the picks or they lose whatever they could have received from the best bidder. The trade is for the picks - not specific players.

Gc could offer 2. Melbourne could offer one of their picks, so yes, they can get a lot more than pick 6 for mini-draft 1 (martin).
It's worth noting that's unlikely, though. GC have stated they won't be entering the mini-draft, and will probably bid on Viney. That means the only pick before us is 4, from Melbourne - and apparently Melbourne are more interested in Hogan. All conjecture of course, but that's how it seems to be playing out at the minute.

Of course we hope that's right, but I'm not counting my chickens just yet.

Me neither, but at the minute it's keeping me optimistic. :p
The fact that GWS have to trim their list so significantly over the next few years definitely works in our favour, though. Means a team can't beat our pick 6 by offering something like pick 7 + a fringe player, because GWS simply won't be interested.

Martin and stringer, martin and stringer, martin and stringer......might go to sleep singing that every night between now and the draft/trade week. 2 potential rockstars.

We are so hard, but we lack skill and confidence. We need star power and an alpha dog or 2. Stringer seems to have the package and martin looks special
