Re Tim Membrey: I have heard knocks on him about height (190cm?) and pace. The latter in particular is still to be substantiated and I'm sure the combine will help sort that out.

I also recall McCartney saying he was interested in a "slightly shorter" KPF ... is that correct? The rationale being that we have a few 200cm options (for a forward pocket?) but we need someone with agility etc. Presumably a bit like Chris Grant or Pav or O'Keefe. Makes sense to me but I guess that means they must have reasonable pace as well.

Both Stringer and Membrey (subject to pace being OK) should fit the bill. So should Jarrad Grant for that matter but he just can't bulk up.

I think that player might already be on our list in Fletcher Roberts at 193cm. Played down back this year but I wouldn't rule out a move forward.

Don't get me wrong, I love Fletch and think he'll become a very good player, but I'm still a little reserved about him as a full forward. I'm just not convinced he could deal with the opposition's best one or two defenders. I want to see him forward, and would love for him to prove me wrong, I'm just not sure if I can see him dealing with a McPharlin type.

I think he'll prove versatile enough to play anywhere on the forward line. What will make him dangerous are the potential mismatches that could be created in combination with other forwards. He'll also have the capacity to swing to defence. Will be a very important player.

My two bobs worth:

Our first three picks should be mids. Only one team (Hawthorn) has drafted a spine first and built a team around it and gone on to win a premiership. And they tin-arsed it with Roughy and Franklin in the same draft. That KP talent isn't available in this draft. Mids, mids, mids, and mids who have it all. Anyone we draft has to be able to tackle, kick, get the pill, and run. If eg Jack Martin can't tackle, don't draft him. Don't care how good the rest of his game is.

Jack Martin can definitely tackle btw

Would anyone else be interested in picking up Tim Membrey?

There is quite a bit about Membrey I like. His attack on ball and player, footy smarts, goal kicking, strength particularly in contests/marking and leadership. Would love to add him to our forward options. We have ample tall options up forward with Jones, Cordy, Williams etc., so his being a medium tall is not really a problem for us. However, he is not a pick 5-6 option, and I think there is virtually zero chance of him falling to our second round selection.
That would mean we would need to trade someone out to get a mid first round pick, which is about where I suspect Membery will be selected [ eg pick 10-18 range].

Fair enough. Hope you're right, have loved him in the forward line in the VFL.

I love Membrey, and think he could be an absolute ripper of a FF for us. He's a bit slow, but he makes up for it in his ability to lead into the ball and take strong marks. One of the best kicks for goal I've seen in a while, too. I would still put Stringer ahead of him, but if he doesn't test well or we have concerns I'd love to see us pick Membrey up. Think there're better players available at 5/6 though, so we'd need to get a pick in the 10-15 range in my opinion.
Kinda sounds like Panos:p

More Mitch Hahn. Absolutely love the bloke as well, one of those guys you'd go to war with. I wouldnt be using one of the early picks but Im a tad more confident he can get to our second rounder (at which point if I was a selector Id be screaming out the name Hrovat :p)

Decided to collate the phantom drafts from BF and see what the common consensus on our first two picks is...because y'know, that's the kind of thing I do. :P

With the lack of gun key forward prospects this year we need to suck again next year for Thomas Boyd

Then in 2014 with Thomas Boyd, Jack Martin and one of O'Rourke/Stringer/Mayes we will begin our ascension towards a dynasty...

These were the wraps on Panos too.

I think there would be more value in saying at what pick they were said to be taken, that way we can see a consensus of the order.. Not that I'm asking you to do more work :P

Yeah I thought of that, but was watching the F1 while doing it so decided for the easier option. :P
Might quickly pull something together tomorrow sometime.

Am now very interested in Macrae. Was huge late in the season, and looks a big game player. Definitely think he'll make it in the AFL.

As a result he gets into my list of combinations and I'm now hoping we get two of Mayes, Stringer, MArtin and Macrae.

Billings looks a freak too (eligible next year). Was very impressed with him in the U18 championships earlier in the year as well. Very classy, think Nick Dal Santo. We would need to have another year similar to this past one to be in his range though.

How about Aaron Black? Fits the mould of "shorter KPP", has development in an AFL system, can play.

Sitting at North Ballarat because Brad Scott has a fixation with spud Tarrant and his understudy Lachie Hansen.

No thanks. We need a gun up there. Stringer, Boyd, hogan. One of those 3 please.

North wont trade him. They see him as Petrie's replacement in the forward line.
