Kris Pendlebury has been picked up ?
I think the VFL full back of the year is worth a rookie spot as he is ready for AFL to fill in if Truck goes down in the next couple of years until siggins develops
26 years old. Maybe worth a rookie spot, Any thoughts?

A key defender is not what we need though. We have players developed and developing in the FB and CHB positions.

We need to be looking at an outside midfielder or small forward, with a requirement being that they have pace!

Very impressive highlights. Showed in those highlights that he could play taller than his height as well. Am I the only one that sees a little bit of Rioli and a little bit of Jeffy Garlett and a little bit of Betts in the way he plays?

Very impressive.

I didnt realise Rodda didnt get drafted. I had heard good things about him in the lead up.

Can we flick some of the dead wood on our rookie list and get at 8 picks.

Hannath
Irra
Sumner
Colqhoun
Bench
Frost
Rodda

Wait, do we?

Who is our developing FB? One of my biggest concerns is how we're going to cover Rutten. At the moment our only legitimate option appears to be Talia, leaving a gaping hole at CHB.

But but i thought this board told me Sam Siggins will be an AA one day ;)

Why DON'T we have more rookee picks/

Dylan Orval? Really?

Chuck in 3 basketballers thatll be lucky to make the reserves of their SANFL sides too. Get rid of all of them for Jack Hannath.
Tim McIntyre will be 24 next year i think. I like him, but if your not on an AFL list by 24, theres a reason.

Dowdell, Klaosen & Osborn have no affect on the rookie list.

Reducing the rookie list from 6 to 4 this year didn't help. Unsure of the reasons why the AFL chose to do that, surely having MORE opportunities is what they want.

Those Basketballers do not open up any spots on the Rookie List. They are additional spots open only to Category B rookies or int he past, NSW Scholarship players. Only 4 spots available on the Category A Rookie List.

Isn't big enough to be an AFL KPD, can get away with it at VFL level but would be exposed against the AFL elite. He would be more of a 3rd tall, question is whether he could adapt and be good enough for that role.

I am aware of that guys. Cmon.

More just making a point id rather Hannath then all of them.

You said get rid of them for Hannath, when getting rid of them would have no bearing on our ability to grab Hannath, so you should understand their confusion.

I'm glad we've given him another chance, had an injury interrupted final 1-2 junior years, was always going to take at least a year to settle into life in Adelaide, especially as a KPP. Would rather give him a genuine chance, otherwise it was just a complete waste of his and our time, similar to our experiences with Curnow and now Tom Lee.

Why do we always point to Curnow and Tom Lee instead of those dozens of players that got extra years that they didn't deserve.

Especially considering Curnow has amounted to nothing and Tom Lee hasn't even had his first kick yet.

That being said - get rid of McIntyre. Fine to keep Orval - the kids still only 18.

How about Rutten and Bock, gave little to nothing in their first years on the list, hell many rated Bock our worst player ever after 2-3 years on our list. I believe we can be too lenient on some players, but one thing I'm big on is if we draft a 17-18 years, is actually giving him at least 2 years to prove himself. We also have one of the leagues best player development departments, why not back them in and give them a decent chance to work with some of these extremely raw recruits?

Oh and Curnow has amounted to plenty, 2 years(30 games) on Carlton's list and is a starting member of one of the better midfields in the comp. He may never be an elite midfielder, but he is certainly a pretty decent one. Whilst he failed to play a SANFL League game in his year on our list, by the end the end of the next year he was one of the better midfielders in the VFL and by the next he was the dominant midfielder of that competition. At the very least, he might have been handy trade bait to improve our position in a draft.

There is a massive failure rate with rookie draftees, I would rather see us give those that we do recruit a decent chance, rather than just take a scattergun approach and if they don't perform in their first year, de-list and reload.

Personally I think we do yeah.
Between Talia, Otten, Thomson, Shaw, and even Lynch or Johnston (if necessary) I think we have enough KPP for defence.
Especially with Siggins now coming into that developing position.

Wow I know they are only highlights but I REALLY like the looks of that Josh Bench!
The impressive part, besides his pace, was the fact that he didnt miss a target with his ball use (whether that target be a team mate or the goals!). Just turned 18 so the right age and still a developing body, would suit the small forward or outside midfield role for us nicely.
Id really love to see us pick someone up with potential like that, as I was super keen on seeing Ben Kennedy be a crow! Any chance it could happen?

Siggins may make it, hard to know at this stage.

As for the others, Talia has enough height, but I think the rest of them are too short to play FB. And I think Talia is too useful to waste at FB.

I'd really like to see us recruit a developing tall, gorilla defender. Siggins has the height but as far as I can tell he's more of a running defender than a stay-at-home full back. Of course, it's hard to develop required players when your first selection is in the 60s...

Talia is the only legit KPP of the lot

not exactly true .......Rutten and Bock were developed as rookie selections

Strange though that we have a better success with rookie selections than late draft picks ......as i've said the selection criteria/thought process must be different

Hope we have taken a rookie mentality with Siggins and Atkins

When Smack steps this year we can swing JJ back there. Was it Rendell who thought he'd be suited to the kpd role?
