Worth bearing in mind that this is the way it will go with the academy kids as well. Other clubs get to put in bids and if we want them we have to use our next pick.
Which I don't mind in the least - especially if there are a bunch of good ones at the same time :)

My understanding is as the Dees finished lowest of the original 16 Clubs they have allocated their 2nd round pick on viney if we were going out bid their second round would take a first round pick..in our case that has been allocated to op tippett..
the crows were a big wrap on him and may do that...

Nah, that's not right. Check out irel/LLC/my posts just before on how it works. :thumbsu:

What about a pick upgrade? For example Pick 8 + Cornelius for WB pick 5? This will allow the Lions to enter into the territory of Toumpas, Mayes and Grundy etc - Grundy will be alot better than Tippett and could be groomed for FF, kids an athletic freak and will leave Tippett for dead.

I'm thinking anytime soon Ian will send you a video clip:rolleyes:

with Polec and Banfield not making the reserves grand final looks like they could both be gone. What would we get for both of them I guess Polec will be part of the Tippett trade could we trade Banfield for Silvagni
You are reading too much into it. Both injured. Polec due to hip problems which he aggravated during the semi. Clarke's report indicated as much. Check it out. Banfield also has been playing half the season with an injury as well.

Not having a go at anyone but I just don't understand this talk of wanting to trade or feeling ok with Polec being delisted. He has been on the list for less than two years (injury interrupted) and was a top 5 pick and a player with the skill set that we have been crying out for, for years. He has started very similarly to Griffen and Thomas and I know people questioned their place in their respective teams but we need to give him and this team time to develop.

I would trade Polec purely because I think what we'd get for him in a trade is more that what he's worth. I think he'll forever be a tease, showing glimpses of form but never capitilising fully. Just my opinion of course, but I just don't like the vibe from him. But delisted? Has anyone suggested that?

As always, I fully accept that I don't have all the information and am happy to be proven wrong.

Not sure anyone has suggested that he would be delisted.

While I understand the Brennan-esque vibe, I think we'll be able to judge better when he has at least one injury-free pre-season. Due to the kind of player he is, I think he was always going to take a little longer to develop.

Polec just needs a coupla good preseasons and some continuity in his football. By 2014-15 he'll be an absolute jet. There's a reason we picked him as early as we did.

You don't trade a a top 5 draft pick who was already undersized after 2 injury interrupted seasons.

Exactly.

He seems to be very, very quiet. I remember the footage I Vossy talking to and really encouraging him during the Carlton preseason game he seems rather introverted. He just needs to mature physically and mentally; I hope we are able to unlock that.

I remember his pre-draft interviews as bordering on cocky or arrogant, could be off-centre. I haven't seen any of the hunger I'd like to see from a player after 2 season, regardless of fitness - I'm not sure he's working hard enough.

Again, I say all this from the outside looking in. I may be totally wrong. Odds on that's the case! :p

I only saw his highlight draft footage not the interviews. It's hard to really know what a person is like, I mean most people would say that about Rocky, but 90% of the time its just his way of taking the piss.

Reason I'm optimistic of Polec is that the deficiencies in his game can be ironed out whereas his natural football skills are a class above the average player. At the moment he does seem a bit one way, lacks in endurance and physical presence. These issues can all be fixed if he has the hunger, discipline and motivation, but the kind of class that Polec possesses can't be taught. With the Lions coaches success of developing mids recently, he's definitely worth waiting out.

Stuff Silvagni for a bad joke. I hadn't really paid much attention to him till posters on here mentioned him so I've watched him for the last few games of the seasons and now the 2 finals and he has shown absolutely nothing that makes me think we should chase him. The only reason we would trade for an undersized, ill-disciplined defender is to do Lyons a favour.

Even as a depth player I would prefer to see Lester on the ground playing on the likes of Walker before I'd waste list space, picks and dollars on Silvagni.

"If". I guess we'll know whether the coaches think that he's got it in him and whether they can get it out of him, if he's still on the list next year.

Anyway, as I'm risking banging on about it, I'll bow out of this convo.
