Bret Thornton possibly worth a look.
Definitely worth considering. Only 192cm but plays tall and quite versatile in that he can play back or forward, and he will come cheap. Will be 30 next year so really only a two or three year option at most.

Definitely up for Thornton.

What would Thornton add?
Defence? Merrett, Patfull, Drummond, Maguire, McKeever have it covered I believe. Attack? Cornelius, Lisle, maybe Clouston, maybe Tippett, Brown, Staker, Bewick, probably have it covered. No doubt he's a handy player, but what role is expected to play and how will it benefit the team?
I don't know what role, so he's not worth pursuing IMO

If Bell is only offered a place on the rookie list by the Blues, is he then " up for grabs" in the sense that we don't have to trade for him if we want to offer him a spot on our senior list?

He's not a great kick and I'm not a big fan of his haircut, but I don't mind him as a prospect, he's already physically developed and he's a known quantity.

I believe we have to trade for him. A bloke called Sierakowski from Hawthorn's rookie list was traded to North Melbourne for pick 58 last year. I'd imagine you would have to do the same with Bell.

What about

Schade and Dixon to Brisbane
Pick 8 to the crows
Tippett to Gold Coast
Dixon, Sam Iles and Danny Stanley to Brisbane
Pick 8 to crows
Tippet and pick 49 to GC

Guess Brown needs someone to taunt at training....

Wouldn't looks once at Thornton. Don't need him at all.

Ditto BB. Do not want! With Lueuy & Staker coming back next year & with Merrett, Patfull & Maguire in defence, where would you put Thornton ? Only place is maybe on the wing. Then you're keeping a younger player out of the midfield. Wouldn't make sense one year, to give Power his marching orders only to pick up Thornton a year later.

Any chance of us doing a "Carlton" or a "Collingwood" & making a big play for a genuine gun player ? (Apart from Tippett, who some don't consider him a gun anyways). That player to me would be Kennedy from the Swans. The door is slightly ajar about a possible move from Sydney.

He would cost plenty of $$$ & a good draft pick/player or two.

I don't think there are any big name players we are a chance of getting bar Tippett.

I have to say that I thought Clouston was one I got wrong. I remember calling him "unique" and believing he had all the physical tools to play CHF in modern footy. The bloke could mark, he could jump, he was a very good height, wasn't skinny, had elite endurance for a big man and could kick the ball a mile. What he was missing was game sense. In fact, you could probably make some comparisons between he and Retzlaff although Retzy is a more natural footballer IMO.

I reckon the game has become more structured in the past few years, particularly if you are a key forward. You are pretty much told where to run in every game situation. I think this suits someone like Clouston.

And, as others have indicated, the ability of a forward to go into the ruck is gold.

POBT,
In my opinion, ( as ive said before) Clouston deserves another go at the elite level. This season he was exceptional for Redlands , playing CHF and kicked some 55 goals. Yes he has the qualities you mentioned in your above posts but also has the ability to take a close game by the scruff of the neck and turn the game into a win situation.
But dont know about him playing in the ruck position... thats not his game.
