AS for the first 6 games or so, I see the rotation policy getting a work out early. With the long season etc, I feel we will not be running a best 22 but a best 26 approach.

I know its all about the best 22 but with hard summer grounds, 6 day breaks and a list that is polarised at either end of the age bell curve, its going to take list management 101 to make it through.

I sure there are plenty may take the opposing view that the best 22 must play every week - and they probably should - Im just not sure with 4 games in 19 days in the first 4 games of the year with some travel that everyone will be up and ready for each of them.

Go Catters

Anyone spot me an airfare and reserved seating tix for the night game vs the Saints at KP? The place will be rockin' for that one.

The hard start will be our biggest issue. Must get off to a good start.

Also pretty surprised to see we only play the Pies once. Perhaps the AFL feels that rivalry has lost its sting.

Anyone know of a fixture that includes which games are going to be televised on Ch 7?

I'm always amazed at how difficult it is to find something that I'd think commercial networks would want to promote the hell out of.

They probably feel the pies are on the slide. Fair enough :p

Or Collingwood has lost its sting ;)

I dont see our draw as being as bad as what the experts are saying, sure we play 3 of last years top 4 twice, but hawks we beat twice last year & Swans we should have had 2 wins against them & Westcoast would have been a win too had Tomahawk not been KO'd early.

I rekon we have a bloody good one with some winnable games very early on, coupled with the fact we only travel to perth once(about time) & we have 6 home games in the second half of the season.

If we get a good start & end up at the break with 8 or so wins(I penciled in 9 with the other ones very winable), then our remainder of the draw with 6 of the last 11 at KP with only 3 interstate trips gives us a bloody fantastic run into the finals to not only post some wins on the board but rotate some guys in and out.

But we NEED to go into the break with a minimum of 7 wins which is easily do-able.
We dont deserve to be there if we dont anyway.

The AFL website shows which stations are televising each game. Just go to the fixture:

http://www.afl.com.au/fixture/tabid/10586/default.aspx

It's written next to each game which network is televising the game. Also, if you click "TV & Radio" you will get the full broadcast guide, though it obviously hasn't been updated for the 2013 season yet.

If we can look back after the first two months and be 5-3 or even 4-4 we are a big show for a top four spot given our run from thereonin. It's funny how the draw looks that much harder when you're not as invincible as we once were, but it definitely gets easier as the season goes on. Bring on the Dawks

Anyone read mark Stevens in the herald Sun today saying we have the toughest draw playing all the top 4 teams twice?
Ffs how much money do these Muppets need to be payed to do decent research? Everyone here on bigfooty does a better job.
Don't we play Sydney, hawthorn, north, port and Brisbane twice plus Collingwood and adelaide only once now. And one Perth trip.
Tough start I know but still a great draw for us.

Well on current season form, I had the first half of the season like this
Round 1 Hawthorn - win ;)
Round 2 North - 50/50 but leaning on win
Round 3 Carlton - 50/50 on last seasons form win, but Malthouse ?
Round 4 Swans - 50/50 we have a good record v them & could quite possibly roll them, but leaning towards loss
Round 5 Dogs - win
Round 6 Richmond - Win
Round 7 Essendon - Win
Round 8 Collingwood - 50/50 if they continue to slide like last season then win
Round 9 Port - Win
Round 10 Suns - Win
Round 11 GWS - Win

So going on the definites, I have us down for 7 then the others could fall either way depending on pre-season form.

But as you said a 5-3 start would probably get us in the top 4.
If we get the start I am hoping for we hit the break at 7-4 or possibly 8-3, we are then a shoe in for a top 2 possie barring a major catastrophe(no pun intended...).
However we need to come out firing from day one & none of this slow start bullshit & it will allow Scotty to give us a very good finals preparation akin to 2011.

And even if we played all top 4 teams twice, we still have to be able to beat them in the finals so its really a moot point!!
Besides, Collingwood & possibly even Hawthorn may not even be in the top 4 next year, and Adelaide may well struggle too given they had a very very soft draw this year.

I recon it will be hawthorns last year at being a good team, Collingwood will still be up there and freo will be top 4 imo, if we played the easybeats twice this year we would have made top 4 I recon.

Even then I rekon the Hawks might really struggle next year.
They have a few older players now & unless they can somehow miraculously find mental toughness in the off season they will struggle in the tight games, of which there will be many next season.

Especially when you factor in teams like Freo, North, Adelaide, West Coast, Richmond, Carlton & possibly StKilda will improve again next year, as well as Us, Collingwood & the reigning premiers being there abouts, its going to be a season of pretty close games and Hawthorn proved that they dont respond well to the tight games.

And totally agree, if we played the easybeats this year twice we would have snagged top 4 - but having said that we dropped a few games we should have won & it would have set us up for better player management in the later half of the season, so we cant hold the draw to blame totally.

Unless Hawthorn discover some mental toughness, then I'm inclined to agree. Factor in a midfield beginning to age (e.g. Mitchell and Hodge will turn 30 and 29 respectively next year), little improvement remaining in the nucleus of their best 22, a raft of up and coming teams nipping at their heels (Freo, Crows, Eagles, Blues, North, Bombers, possibly the Lions and Richmond), plus the Pies, Swans, and Cats being thereabouts, and you have all the ingredients for a slide beyond next season.
As for playing more easybeats twice in 2012, it may have gotten us a top 4 position, however it wouldn't have aided us come September. And when you consider the fact we lost many games we shouldn't have, you can't really lay any blame to the draw.

This may have been posted already, but looking over our fixture today, i was looking at our opponent and where and who they played the week before, i noticed a lot of the time our opponent will be coming off from an interstate trip, and a lot of the time they play tough opposition.

My reaction when that happens to an opposition team: "SCREW THE AFL!!! THIS SHIT IS SO RIGGED. ****ING TRYING TO KICK US DOWN THE LADDER AS BLOODY ALWAYS!!!!!"

My reaction when it happens to us: "Deeeelicious".

About time we weren't given the shit end of the stick.

For every game between round 1-10 (except for round 2), every match will be on Channel 7.:thumbsu:

Unless you don't have Foxtel, how is that many games on Channel 7 supposed to be a good thing? Do you actually enjoy BT's drivel, their terrible camera angles, or Bruce creaming himself after a delicious Rioli play?

I don't have Foxtel either, but how can anyone enjoy listening to the Channel 7 commentary team? More often than not I mute the telly when a Cats game is on Seven, I think I'd rather stick my head in a beehive than put up with Brian Taylor, Luke Darcy, or Bruce.

I never said I enjoyed it, but I want to watch the footy, so I pretend the drivellers are just adverts and let them wash over my head. It works reasonably well except when we are playing really badly, or the umpires are totally out of control and being praised by the 3 Morons.
