Cripps had good numbers all year in the WAFL despite not being suited to that type of footy as it's not stoppage riddled like footy in the southern states.

Once he got to nationals and they were all on the same fields he led the championships for clearances (more than one clearance per game more than the next closest) and second among all players (first among midfielders) for contested possessions.

Had better disposal efficiency than noted good ball users Acres and Johnson which is impressive given the way most of his possessions were earned. Had nearly 20 touches per game in these shortened games, I would think once he gets to an AFL standard with his endurance and can get to more contests plus being in a league (AFL or VFL) where the stoppages are a lot more frequent with the wet grounds and higher numbers around the contests he will be winning a lot more of the ball.

Very big boy that uses his body extremely well to win the ball.

play the devils advocate here but could he have been a big boy among boys?

Was playing against a lot of guys that have played a lot of senior football and also against a lot of players that have been talked about as being high picks. He's also still going to be a very big boy amongst AFL midfielders.

The more info that comes to hand, the more there is to like about Cripps.
The Draft interviews show a kid with a "chubby" face. We have reports of pace and endurance
being the go slow.
I have used "conditioning" references from my racehorse training days before and been attacked by
some posters. Not backward in coming forward if something to say though.
The last thing you do with a 2 or 3 yo racehorse is to subject them to a heavy training regime when they are experiencing significant growth.
Cripps reported to have grown 20cm in a short space of time. Most likely to have experienced "growing pains", so fair to expect if he was getting the right guidance, would not have been subjected to a great
load on the track. Remember the sport science revolution provides plenty of mollycoddling these days.
The kid reported to have the skills, smarts and attitude. There is a bloody good chance the "physical issues" will take care of themselves. Upside is there, if I was a betting man............

Would love to roll out Judd, Robinson, Bell, Murphy, Gibbs, Graham, Mclean, Curnow, Carrazzo, Menzel and a bullocking mid next year.

With number eight backing them up in the ruck. :hearts:

If we get Cripps, then he might be what we were hoping for in Grigg.

Grigg was never drafted as a contested ball winner.
In fact, he was universally described as an outside player prior to him being drafted.

I think he showed some good glimpses though...I do recall a handy ability to free the arms and dish off the hands on a couple of occasions. Not sure he had the intestinal fortitude for it on a permanent basis mind

Anyway, read on the Collingwood board that Hawthorn recruiter was on SEN and said the top 10 would look like this:

1. Boyd
2. Kelly
3. Billings
4. Aish
5. KK
6. Schaz
7. Lennon
8. McDonald
9. Salem
10. Freeman

So, if you assume Sheed goes to WC at 11. Who do we think Richmond may take?

What does that leave @ 13? Who would be everyone's choice out of the players available?

Id say Richmond take Zac Jones. He seems the type of player Richmond would take, and also he has been linked to them.

I thought Bontempelli to Dogs was a lock tho

Not surprised we'd take Cripps tbh, after seeing his stats after the champs, probably over shadowed by the love for crouch or the possibility of getting Lennon or Salem as a slider...

It's Acres or Cripps or Tsitas for me...

39, 51 is anyone's guess, bring on tomorrow night!!!!

I agree - Jones may be a go at 12 for Tigers if the above eventuates.

Also on Cripps - would much rather a footballer with great attitude then an athlete with so-so skills and attitude.

surely not Tsitas at 13? If we took McCarthy, Tsitas at 39 wouldn't be too bad.

Cripps seems all the rage ATM, what were his stats for the year.. How many WAFL senior games did he play?? Does he score goals?? If we are to take a midfielders we need one that hurts the scoreboard..

From the WAFL website it seems that he played one game for the ressies and spent most of the time in the colts.

Not what you want to hear from a likely first round pick. Would mean that either his WAFL club don't rate him that highly or his body isn't ready for the rigours of senior footy which at 188 -192cm is probably understandable but obviously comes with a few risks.

Every sport i can think of that has a draft does it at night time.

I just don't like the whole attention being dragged to it. There shouldn't be a *massive* fuss made of it. I recall a few years ago they did it during the day and I thought it worked really well. Plus there wasn't this shitty top 10 countdown.

I suppose any chance to market anything will probably be taken these days.

Barely any Victorian boys that will be getting drafted in the first round has any senior football experience. Most are from the TAC Cup.
