If there is someone we're looking at in the PSD, why did we not pick him in the National Draft rather than Pass and hope he is still available? Salary cap?

As with Jed Lamb (Syd --> GWS), an uncontracted player might not have found a trade nor signed with his club.

Chris Johnson?

I'd completely forgotten about this bloke.
I do remember a game at Etihad against Western Bulldogs IIRC where he was deplorable.
And when I say deplorable I mean sh!thouse.

Blackwell, Buckley....there haven't been many but we have had some. We didn't pursue Sheldon, Johnston or Williams....

We wanted Sheldon to wait an extra year... but he wanted to go as a bottom aged player so he entered the draft. We declined to chase him as a F/S and as a consequence he went to Brisvegas.

I reckon that if he had waited the extra year, played for the bullants and in the TAC again, he would have come along a bit better than he has done by going in as a bottom aged player because he didnt really set the world on fire up there in Brisbane.

curious - now that we passed on him on the main list, how does Team HellNo2Thorp feel about giving him a go on the rookie list? Less to lose, and all that.....

I have always been one for getting Thorp on the rookie list. I dont think that pursuing him on the senior list this year was a viable option as we wanted to get some mids and we managed to pick up possible Henderson Mk 2 in Giles.

Thorp on the rookie list gives us cover for the year for Waite and if Waite does retire as I think he will at the end of next year, we have the option of promoting him to the senior list if we need to. He wouldnt be on much lolly if we did promote him and the savings difference between Thorp and Waite can go to the keep our F/A players fund.

why? had one of the worst seasons for a full forward i've seen in a long time.

I would tell him to go away and play in a lower league for 12 months, get a lot more game time, get his confidence back and we will look at him next year.

Sainst have a lot riding on a weak draft. Picture their best 22 after they've lost their remaining stars.

B: Wright Bruce Geary
HB: Gilbert Delaney Roberton
C: Savage Armitage Ray
HF: Billings White Murdoch
F: Acres Lee Markworth
R: Longer Dunstan Steven

I/C: Siposs Hickey Ross Newnes

Emerg: Webster Saunders Stanley

LOL.

LOL.
Steven will be A grade. Acres, Billings, Dunstan, Newnes, Armitage and maybe in time Markworth could also be a good midfield.

Assume they'll go hard at KPP in 2014... because they really, really need to. Wright, Ross, Roberton, Savage etc will be good role players for them.

Waite wont be Retiring at the end of this year, Just bought a new home this year worth a fair bit - Will want it paid off before then 2 more years i would say

Check his phone records and bank statements, he must have been on the take to throw the game. He was extremely sh!thouse that game with 3 or 4 turnovers in a row (for the one that was supposed to be our white knight kicking out of defence). He may have been subbed after that effort.

I wonder if we will do a Scotland type thing and push him to the rookie list for a 12 month contract if he does want to keep playing past the end of the year. However, I reckon that he knows that this is going to be his last contract and would have set things up so that the house payments are covered.

Plus, he would possibly make just as much moving to a country league and getting appearance money and match payments.

I think
The club will have to be quick. The PSD & rookie draft are next Wednesday. Not a lot of time to assess whether he is a dickhead or not.

I think the fact that in a draft thin with decent talls his name was not called by any of the 18 clubs may give a clue to where he sits. Say no more .

We will still manage to lose to a declining saints team

That's because Mick got arrogant on the night and decided to play three rucks! And when we copped a couple of injuries (Yarran was one IIRC) then we had no run whatsoever

Deplorable MC decision making

Hopefully this woman is right in our drafting this year, all sound like superstars:

I just cant take these ratings seriously at all. Fine to explain the talent and their pros and cons.....but rating the draft is a waste of time.

Many teams get higher scores in the draft because they had more picks (Brisbane), and some clubs are deemed to have a good draft regardless of who they pick (Geelong). The two teams with the lowest ratings only had 2 active picks. The rating shouldnt be about quantity, but the quality you get at the pick.

The suns get a very good player with their first, and then 2 other lesser knowns and they get an 8/10.....Geelong picks 2 lesser knowns, and a known (due to the suns Kolodjashnij)....but because its the cats and their recruiter said Darcy Lang is like Bartel....then they get a 10/10. Give me a break.

These draft rankings also tend to criticise carlton for not taking a KPF, but then applaud GWS who failed to pick a KPD....which is a role they dont have surplus.

Their development and culture is up the creek. Plus they need depth, money and stability off the field. If they get it right, then there's still GWS and GC who will be kicking into gear by then.

He just did not seem to come on at Brisbane, I still reckon we made the right call on him though.

What happened to that thread about who we would have picked?

I have very little idea because I didn't interview the kids nor meet their parents to get a feel how solid a citizen they may be.
Probably doesn't help I didn't see the guys play numerous games either but for the fun of it on the limited amount I've seen and pretend to understand.

Pick 13. Dunstan but only because of the character we've heard so much about.
Pick 39. Giles. Couldn't be happier for this selection.
Pick 51. Conlon or Hourigan would have been what I hoped for although they're both still available in the upcoming rookie draft.

Very happy with our selections.................not quite 2012 happy, but happy nonetheless.

Menzel who was touted as a top two pick and Graham who slid from the first rd for our third pick. It was a good draft.

In terms of Cripps' athleticism that people are worried about, I don't see the problem.
The Kid can play.
If you watch carefully his first few steps are not even slow, with strength and conditioning, and do more in terms of power lifting, like as NFL players do, he doesn't need to be fast, just needs a quick burst in the first few steps and that is plenty of time to make decisions to figure out what to do with the ball.
He already has some traits that good footballers possess, especially that awareness of what is going on around him. Within an AFL environment and training he'll only get better.
