I just don't think so. I remember watching him play back once; he had less idea than our boy Rhys.

Maybe we see him as that Aaron Edwards/Stewart Crameri big-bodied 3rd tall forward or marking target that can roam around the half forward line and up into the wings to allow Lee and Riewoldt to stay closer to goal? Or alternatively allow Roo to roam like he does without compromising our structure at half forward and allowing the backs to gang up on Lee?

Also, maybe we see Lee ideally as that Jack Gunston-type not-quite-full-forward, and are looking at a forward line of Roo (CHF), White (FF) and Lee (FP)...

To be fair to him, 196cm 102kg blokes simply don't tend to come with his serious athletic gifts. Equally, other posters are right; he's played at best half a season of good football, and a lot of dross, so if we ARE considering this, the price had better be right.

Either way, I agree with everyone else; it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me considering where our deficiencies are.

Good logic, but...

Roo only has 1 or at best 2 years remaining. Then what? We have to look long term.

Met someone that is on the inside at Calder and he confirmed that Jake Lever has a less talented brother by the name of Jay... Jayden (or is it Jaden ). Just queasily Jake had another solid game today against the Jets.
no relation as i said i am in the know!!!! has only 2 younger brothers age 15 and 13 middle one is in the cannons under 15 squad he is a country kids from Romsey.....

Jesse White seems like a pretty bad long term option imo.

He is 26 on the 9th of Jan 2014 and as others have said he has only played a half a decent season so far. Seems like the odds would be against us getting a decent return on him unless we get him very cheap.

I'd prefer to lock Stanley (turns 23 this December) into a forward position next year and see how he goes. I still believe he has massive upside, is still developing and should last longer than White.

Plus, listening to BT commentate when we have 2 Whites in the team would be even more painful than it already is.

And 24+25 for Mitch Brown. Stan down Smurf.

do we know for sure scott was the driving force behind this?

also i wonder if we put that deal on the table to see if there was any possibility at all of the trading being done, and then work back from there. if there wasnt they would then move on

Just because your club shows interest in a player doesn't mean they seriously want them. I remember when the pies were rebuilding, Eddie was having coffees with every player out of contract.

We should be into any player at a minimum. Worst case scenario we drive up their price and restrict what clubs can do when there's actually something decent that we are after!!!!

Spot on. The club would and should speak to anyone off contract. White is not a bad depth player. We should consider him as that and nothing else.

With all the focus on Taylor Adams I hope the club quietly asks about Anthony Miles from GWS.

Ball magnet, inside mid and can do a defensive job.

Can confirm the Jesse White link to the Saints.
I like j white he is a great size athletic and can take a grab. Could be one of those forward to defence converts.

B: simpkin j white gilbert
Hb: wright/webster bruce fisher/newnes

That would set us up for a pretty descent year lmo

Looking forward...

we probably won't play finals until 2016 onwards, so...

Pretty much all our seniors will be gone. Our age gap works 2 ways. In afew years from now we will be left with a heap of under 25 kids and not too many in their late 20's. Is is long established that to contend you need a good mix of mature bodies, so where will they come from?

Some one like white would still have a good 5 to 6 years in him. I reckon we will need guys like him in the future to provide that balance. He will be 28 -29 years old. So if we are going to have to top up later, why not do it now? Just a thought.

Having potted White thus far, it's probably fair that I throw out the other side of the equation; he's an attractive target in that he's a big strong body with significant athletic gifts, coming into his physical prime, with very strong hands, very good pace for a bloke his size, a monster leap and is a good solid kick. The main knock on him have never been ability, IMO, but rather his complete lack of work rate - which he seems to be doing something about currently - although that may be just to up his attractiveness to potential suitors.

Whilst I'm still a little mystified by this one, what it indicates to me is one of four things; one, with Kosi's retirement, SW reckons we need an extra tall forward one the list; two, we see White as a potential KPD; three, we want to settle Rhys in at CHB and White will be the forward line replacement; or, what I think is the most likely scenario, Big Mac is off to GWS (or at the very least we're preparing for that possibility) and Stanley will be playing the forward/ruck role he suits most, with Lee as the Jack Gunston very tall 3rd forward.

What that leaves us with is a forward line something like;

HF: Lee - Riewoldt - [Curren]
FF: [mid/SF] - White - Stanley

Whilst that initially looks top heavy, it's got a significant amount of mobility to it. I'm not sold, but I've seen worse.

whilst not of the same talent / greatness, you can also add that a player like White is a ready made replacement for Roo.

Didn't we just resign Maister though? Surely we don't need Maister & J. White (2 average/mid-age Key forwards)?

Its kinda baffling really.

Much as I like the Beau Boy, I don't think he'll be around long term. White offers more upside IMO.

Yeah it is baffling, but who knows what they are cooking up at Seaford.
