Nothin wrong with the helmet. It keeps his face pretty.

Some stuff on Helmet head:

Recording an impressive Level 15-7 to lead the way in the Beep Test, Daniel was also ranked in the top-five for the 20m sprint and 3km time trial.

Also it seems he is coming off a 12 week ankle injury so his performance in the Champs is even better. http://sanfl.com.au/news/sanfl_news/page_6/2417/

He has everything we need and I saw nothing in the 2 games that I have seen him in to show that he couldn't make it at AFL level. He has been playing against bigger guys all his life so I don't see why he couldn't do it in the AFL.

Good to see Patracca finally getting some love. I've been following his progress closely and as I said a few days ago he will be the best player from the draft IMO. Does that mean he goes pick 1? I think if we finish bottom we are odds on to pick McCartin. From what I've heard we rate him extremely highly and he's shown enough to suggest he will be the best tall forward option in the draft.

As of now, and subject to change, this is my personal preference for pick 1:
1. Trade for Patton/Boyd/Cameron
2. Select Petracca
3. Select McCartin

Just go pick best available and I see a talent gap between GWS's forwards and McCartin, Wright, Goddard etc. Petracca to me looks like he could be one of the best midfielders we've seen for sometime. He's got so many elite qualities and one of the best 1v1 games we've seen for a while. Powerful runner, clean hands, marking, endurance, agility, booming kick, strength in the contest. He looks like the type of player you want when playing finals and a tough brand of footy.

Is Petracca a better midfielder than Tom Mitchell from the swans?

How about Pick 1 and our 2nd round pick for Swans 1st round pick and Mitchell?
So basically Mitchell in return for pick 1 and an upgrade of our 2nd round pick a couple of places..
We technically retain a '1st round pick' albeit a high one and land what I'd call a relatively proven young AFL gun mid.

Sydney will use their first rounder on Issac Heeney.

Take Mitchell for nicks in the PSD.... Stuff the Swans

I like a lot of the attributes Petracca has but I'd take Mitchell. Mitchell has already had three years of development at one of the most professional clubs and on exposed form against men looks the more conservative and safer option. Petracca is extremely talented but he still may not amount to that talent.

IMO draft picks tend to get overrated so you go the sure-thing if the quality is already there for us to see every time. Shiel, Mitchell, Treloar - all young enough to fit our list strategy and have shown enough to give up pick 1 for any one of them. Same goes for the young tall crop at GWS as well as Daniher, Lynch (GC) and Hogan (showed his talent in the VFL last year).

With his speed, acceleration, cleanliness with the ball, ball-winning ability, disposal, composure, vision, endurance and ability to kick goals it would be hard to see him going anywhere but the top 10. I'd take him with a late 4th rounder or early 5th right now.
You would draft a 165 cm midget with any pick?

Daniel said he was 170cm friday i think.

Still not a great height though i guess.

Unsure on Lynch. Err on the negative.

I'll put it this way - How would he go in a forward line without Dixon, Day, Matera and Bennell while being fed by a midfield that looks nothing like Ablett, Swallow, Prestia, OMeara, Martin, Kolodjashnij, Shaw, Hall, Stanley, Harbrow, Rischetelli.....

Very good player and probably going to be their next captain, but I can't help feeling his value is inflated by the team around him.

Listed at 167 and has said that he is 170 so it will be interesting to see what he measures up as at the combine.

Other than his height can you name 1 major floor in his game?

at afl level?

tackling, clearence work or anything that requires strength of a mid

I think he could be a good small forward at AFL level.

If he is indeed 170cm it's only 3cm off Lewis Taylor (Listed at 173cm) who is having a decent season with Brisbane so far.

While he might never be as amazing at tackling at an AFL level, from what I saw in the U18 matches he has pretty good technique and he isn't scared to try so at the very least he will apply good pressure.

I agree with Stanley that he will probably be a good small forward but I think he could use his great disposal skills a bit further up the ground as well. I think his positives outweigh the negatives that he has from being so small. If we are going to take a risk on any draftee this year it should be him, he has the pure talent of a top 10 pick and we can get him for much cheaper than that.

I reckon he is 167 with his helmet on, the measuring tape doesn't lie. I was scared for him at some stages, he was playing on a boy who was 184cm which is undersized for an onballer these days and he made him look like Aaron Sandilands, can you imagine him playing against men?

Just not someone who will translate to AFL seniors, unfortunately for him, highly unlikely he gets a spot anywhere.

What. So if his height at the combine is 167cm you will still think he is shorter than that? Why would you be scared for him? At no point did he look out of place and he has played 2 games in the SANFL already and I'm sure he is used to playing against bigger opponents because he would have been doing that his whole life.

Limiting myself to current AFL players;

Brent Harvey (NM) 167cm (claims 172cm) *
Jake Neade (PA) 170cm
Ben McGlynn (Syd) 171cm
Eddie Betts (Adel) 173cm
Paul Puopolo (Haw) 173cm *
Ben Kennedy (Coll) 174cm
Jarryd Blair (Coll) 174cm *
Hayden Ballantine (Fre) 174cm
Devon Smith (GWS) 174cm
Nathan Hrovat (WB) 174cm

*premiership players

And that's just the blokes under 175cm AND excluding Rookie Listed players; there are plenty that claim to be bang on the magical 175cm barrier - Stokes for instance - whom I doubt actually measure up to that. Daniel claims to be 170cm; short, absolutely, but to be 'scared for him' IMO is totally condescending. He's built fairly well for his height, and he just took on, and comfortably beat other elite kids much bigger than him, put his body on the line time after time, and when the game was there to be one, he was the bloke under packs, tacking and giving hits and kicking clutch goals. I have no doubt whatsoever that his skills would translate to AFL level.

He's big enough if he's good enough, and by my reckoning, he's plenty big enough.
