Darcy Moore is rated highly and for pretty good reason - he's big. Withdrawing from AIS-AFL was huge, big let down for Moore if Collingwood don't draft him now. Look forward to watching him with Oakleigh this year, if his body can hold up.

Just watching Koby Stevens it reminded me

Over the last two off seasons we were linked with Josh Caddy, Koby Stevens and David Myers all midfielders, can only assume we will definitely be after a mid or two come this years off season. I wonder who?

My two that i know are out of contract are Swallow and O'Rourke, not sure how good the chances are of getting either.

It was suggested we could have swapped Cripps for him, but Stevens never wanted to come to us ( probably because all the media would call him Steven )
Not to worry, Murdoch and Saunders are both likely types.

I see your point.

I was just saying we have apparently targeted midfielders over the last two off seasons so we might do the same this year.

Sidebottom, Zaharakis, Swallow, Bennell, O'Rourke, Neale are amongst some out of contract midfielders around the age we need, the only thing is it would take a bit at the trade table for most of those.

I guess it depends how we are tracking with the current lot at the end of season. I might also make sense for us to pick a tall forward who is a bit of a long term prospect, or a tall rebounding defender ( Gilberts/Gwilt replacement ).

Predicting our 2014 finish i think you can probably lock in a tall forward as our first pick.

I'm predicting bottom three, despite wanting to finish in the 8!!

Haven't heard anything about him, but I'm hearing some very, very promising things about 2 or three others who are coming up to draft age in the next 4-5 years, especially Jackson Voss and Levi Peckett.

we goota wait another 4 or 5 years to get a father son? knowing our luck they will change the rules!

The HS is talking about a bloke by the name of Mitch Creek, a 21yr old 195cm 98kg (;)) basketballer with the Adelaide 36ers training with Essendon...

Got tested by the Injectors and the Filth, but interestingly was the Vic Country CHF a couple of years ago.

Worth a look IMO.

How many years ago? Long enough to sign him under that obscure rule (something about not playing football at a professional level for 3 years, used to signed Keefe at Verminwood)

Around about 14 I think, so both a ways off draft eligible age. Jackson apparently a "gun leftie" who is already over 6 foot. Sam Loewe might be a bit older than them and he's also meant to be a good chance.
He'd want to be a better kick than his old man...

I remember watching Loewe in the under 19's, it was a sight..He'd miss them from point blank..
Huddo's tuition was the turning point, & his goal kicking improved markedly over the course of a few seasons..Kicked over 70 goals I recall one season..Brought meaning to the term "markologist" Buckets..

What's the size of his kid's hands..

Yeah watching Butcher from Port the other night reminded me of big Stew early on!

Stewie kicked 76 goals in 1995 and then 90 goals in 1996, playing mainly full forward but also CHF and a bit in the ruck. He was very accurate in front of goal for those two years (but not too accurate prior to that).

Not surprising, won't last with a Victorian club, will either be traded out at the end of the year or quit sooner rather than later. Ashley Sampi Mk II.

You called it all along Defacto.., & I didn't..! Thought the Hawks were best suited for him..
I hope the kid does work it out sooner than later.. With his talent he's good enough to make it, let's not forget Cuz had his moments in his early days..Whether it's attitude, or a case of ADD his chance to set himself for life is fast slipping away..

How can I forget Loewe kicking 90 goals in 96, but I did..
For some reason he often struggled against Barry Stoneham, as Carey did against Jakovich..

Just quietly I started early on the Honey Bourbon's, as I was working from home today..;)

“His pre-draft interviews read to me more like someone who behaved themselves for the purpose of proving they could, rather than someone who had a true change of life outlook.”

I always felt he was doing what he was told during 2013, not being who he is. You can only keep that up for so long, whether it comes down to behaviour, work ethic, the comforts you need to have around you, or just your general outlook on life. By the time you’re 20 it is difficult to make sweeping changes. And there’s some things you can’t get away from; my wife is a clinical practitioner and tells me I have ‘autistic tendencies’. Sometimes I do things a certain way, and it’s difficult to work with others who don’t see it the same as me. Statistics suggest there’s bound to be a few sports stars with similar mental parameters they need to work with, and that can be harder for some than others.

You can also find that people who dont mature mentally as fast as others begin to feel left behind by their peers who have become "men" in certain eyes whilst they cant break a certain mold. Although these "kids" might seem to not care a lot but often they also feel left behind but cant deal with it because they just dont have the maturity yet.

I mean, I think back and try to imagine myself fitting into the incredibly difficult and challenging place that is an AFL level club and im not even sure I could have done it at 20. Who knows though.

I have known a few high level sportsmen and there are definitely some autistic tendencies or at least OCD. I see the difference with my kid and the ones likely to play AFL. The obsessive ones just think about footy and nothing else. My boy gets distracted by peers activities and a million other distractions. A friend who was a high level rower and now coach said the ones that make and win at the olympics have a competitive spirit that boarders on sociopathic.

High level sports is a really high pressure environment, you need so much more than talent to play any major sport. I think most males have autistic tendencies, I hate working with others because they all seem a little to stupid too delegate tasks to.

I know personally about fitting into an AFL club albeit I was only 16 at the time, I was lucky enough after moving from Berri (SA) to Melbourne to get an invite to train at St Kilda. Being a young country kid, I was a little overawed ( ok! shit scared ) being trained by the great Allen Jeans, unfortunately after a couple of training runs I called it a day. So I can definately understand how a young bloke like Garlett finds a group of ( non mates ) young men intimidating.
