Don't stress peeps, rest assured Saints have made enquires about Tom Boyd since this broke publicly. Wouldn't be surprised if we trump the Dogs
If we haven't been in contact with Boyd's management all year then we have failed… surely we wouldn't wait till the dogs have basically landed him to put a huge offer to him?

Nice. I think someone already mentioned it but this could be SOS playing the game beautifully. He probably knew that Boyd wanted to leave and was waiting for the right deal to pop up that forced us to give them more or take less from them.

If I were St Kilda, I would go to Boyd and offer a better pay packet and deal than WB. We have the capability. Massively front load it so that it doesn't affect our FA push in a few years.

Then offer Pick 1 to GWS for Boyd and 19.

GWS get Petracca, can still use 4 on either Wright or McCartin to make up for the loss of Boyd, and we get a better option than pick 1 anyway, and still get our extra pick inside 22.

What can the Bulldogs offer that beats that? We should try to trump them on every level.

lol a 29 year old with injury issues plus pick 6 for a pick 1 power forward...yeah right
given that he wants to go home (and could walk next year) and that they were reportedly keen to offload 4 and 7 for Griffin it seems reasonable.

Robbo on SEN now saying:
- GWS has not had anything official from Boyd's management. All this coming from WB.
- Also on a side note the show mentioned that Jono Simpkin being chased by GWS

Edit: Brett Anderson also suggesting that St.Kilda will be talking to Boyd's management since finding out Boyd is "available"

reportedly? according to who? has there been any question from a GWS employee saying they would do 4 & 7 for griffen.

the only people i have seen touting that deal have been ex bulldogs in wallace and brown

i'd keep boyd for 12 months and try and convince him. if he still wants to go, a club like ours would probably still part with a top 4 pick which is better than pick 6

Why would GWS trade Boyd to us when a) Boyd wants to go to the Dogs b) we can't offer them anything better (Petracca vs Griffen + 6, given their young midfield talent is probably even for them) and c) they are still wanting to keep Boyd?

I'd take a pick 1 for Boyd trade but I can't see it happening.

the statement from the doggies absolutely stunk of a club trying to show some strength in the media. trying to pump up their own tyres and get one back for the griffen stuff.

boyd wont be traded and they'll be made to look weak and irrelevant again

I hope we don't trump the Dogs. Far too much cash for an untested player.

Yep, only thing I've seen by GWS officially is they'll consider trading there first rounder for him.

They don't even have pick 7 yet.

We should announce that Bont has requested a trade to us just to keep the chaos going.

Someone from the WB board just posted on the GWS board that WB have offered Boyd $5.5 mil over 6 years with $3 mil up front in the first two years.

If it is anything like that or the other offer that is being rumoured do you really look down on him for wanting to accept it, especially if he thinks GWS can cover for his loss with Cameron, Patton, McCarthy, etc, plus they could get a McCartin/Wright this year easily enough?

I wouldn't want to pay that much for 1 kid. just over the top if you ask me. no loyalty. What then happens if he does his knee and is out for a year.

Doggies desparately need a FF. let them take him. I would rather 2-3 early draft picks.

I get the gut feel that it is a bit excessive as well.

That being said, I'm struggling to come to grips with the amount of cash being thrown at players these days.

Need to pay a lot to get them out.

He is contracted.

GWS would trade him for the best deal IMO if they traded him even if he wanted to go to the dogs.

You have to laugh at the irony of this trade period. Saints supposed to "big time" players dictating terms, instead we have been blindsighted at every turn and relegated to the back of the queue whilst we wait politely for the other clubs to work their way through the monster trades they have on the table.

On the plus side I am really impressed about the lack of noise or player unrest coming from the Saints. We seem to be a happy group at the moment, big win for the club considering how poor we are on the field. On that note, I am not as convinced as everybody that GWS will become an unbeatable powerhouse. They might be building an epic list on paper, but the rumours of players wanting out are coming thick and fast. You don't just create a winning culture overnight. I think the following is a legitimate question:

"Would an AFL premiership achieved at GWS mean as much to a player as an existing Melbourne based club"?

Surely winning a premiership at the Dogs would have to be a truckload more satisfying for Boyd than winning a flag at some artificial AFL creation, with absolutely no history, and a passionless supporter base. Not everybody will agree, but how can that compete with winning a flag that has generational supporters? I will never forget my grandparents recollection of going to the GF in 66, or watching Plugger every week with my old man at Moorabbin. My daughter is now getting old enough to come to the footy with dad and myself and she loves the time spent with her dad and pa, and the passion our whole family has for the Saints. You don't create this over the course of a few years. I can guarantee you a lot of young blokes don't grow up dreaming of being an AFL star just to play in front of a soulless crowd in Western Sydney every second week. Even if you do find yourself a premiership player, the next day when you rock up to the Western suburbs to celebrate with your fans (assuming somebody actually turns up), you sure as hell won't find the kind of supporters that have lived and breathed your footy club for decades. I totally get why their young players would want to play elsewhere.

This. No. 1 pick with 1 year to go. Not a Club Captain. We'd probably trade our no. 1 pick this year for him.

This. Throw in some flog to Collingwood as well.

Not sure I want us to; understand a bloke wanting to maximise his earning capacity and all, but walking out on a club after a year just leaves an awful taste in my mouth.

I'm with ronny... Take the picks and run. Besides, Boyd's not half the forward McKenzie will become...
