I wonder if AFL clubs could be given the option of a mid-season trade to the Bombers for the pick(s) the Bombers get pinged for?

Every club would have surplus half-decent players that for whatever reason are out of the 22.

Extraordinary meeting of the Commission...
Can the Crows trade their lost Tippett picks for players too...

They'll let them draft players that missed out on the rookie draft. Then next year, after the draft they'll get extra picks in the rookie draft. Let thrm get players to field a team, but still penalises them with the quality of player.

If any mini draft was to occur then I assume it would be similar to the Broadbridge replacement. Essendon would be able to select from the left overs from last year's draft.

If it is en masse though and I wonder if something more will be needed to keep them competitive given that it is potentially a fair slice of their best players who are out
Why should we allow them to be competitive if they cheated? Serves them right if guilty & end up with the spoon.

Let Hird make a playing come-back...

It's an integral pillar of the comp to make everyone competitive.....to a degree.
If they were missing 10 of their best-22, would they be any worse than GWS in their 1st year?

Allow them to draft in replacements, but that should be it.

They should not be allowed to have additional players on their list.

If they add a player because they have 10 players suspended and they need to replace them, they must drop one off. If that happens to be a star, so be it.

They can not have say 45 players in their list when everyone else only have 42.

They can not be rewarded for this.

To me it's a tough one. Hird etc should see no mercy but the club is essentially its members who have done nothing wrong. Essendon is needed in the afl. But this should never happen again, that's what needs to be fixed at the end of the day.

Doesn't look good for the players named; what will this mean for Jobe Watson's Brownlow? I would think it would be tainted forever

If you win a gold medal and you get done for dopping, you loose your medal. This should be no different.

100% agree, Vlad press conference at 9:30am Adelaide time, not looking good, hoping he steps down but we all know he won't

If Essendon keep and go forward with Hird, why should they get any special treatment to keep them 'competitive'?
If the players do get busted, as is being reported, then Hird will almost certainly receive a life ban as the person responsible for organising and coordinating the systematic doping of his team.

Saw this on Facebook...:)

I might seem just a touch callous towards Essendon here, but bad luck if they lose 10 players. They should still be able to field a side - most teams in the AFL have close to 50 listed players. That leaves them with 40 on the list to choose from. Even with bad injuries they should be able to field a side.

It's their mess, they can handle it themselves.

There is also the salary cap issue. Hypothetically - if they top up players, how are they paid, are they within the cap and I would say that it will very likely not be within the cap. The AFLPA will push that the players who get infraction notices are given 'leave with pay' in a way, so the league would have to approve Essendon spending over the cap if they were to be given top up players for a period. Can't see the other clubs that happy about it.

As stabby said they shouldn't need top up players just to field a team and if they had 12 players suspended in a melee for example they wouldn't get special consideration so stuff em, if you cant do the time dont do the crime.
