I want Scott Selwood to be up Ablett's ass when we play them. I don't care how good their other players are, just so long as he is out of the equation then we can at least stand a chance.

Crowley him, lose some respect for that week, whatever. I am not ready to lose to the Suns this year.

I have been thinking for a while that gws will be the first of the two to dominate. Their forwards are ready to go and their midfield is full of hard nuts.in a year or two when a couple of their big young forwards want to go home they can top up any areas they need to using pretty high draft picks. Both teams will be extremely good for a long time but gws should get there first

Forward line of Patten, Cameron, Boyd who I see as being possible the best forwardline ever.

C'mon, Patton has played a handful of games and Boyd is yet to debut. Cameron is the only certified gun.

Let's see how well they can retain these blokes in a few years when every Vic club will be sniffing around.

what about us can we sniff around too.

This...when those teams become filled with certifiably elite players (ie. the talent is checked off as elite on-field a la with J Cameron), it will not just be the Victorian teams sniffing around. How many of us have mentioned that we should attempt to get O'Meara, Bennell or even Coniglio back home to WA? Much shuffling around to come which, I dare suggest, Demetriou and co would've considered during the myriad discussions and planning of this expansion venture.

I honestly don't thing GWS will have problems retaining their young guns in the future..they started from scratch together and are building something pretty awesome..they will be incredibly bonded.
and lets face it..what young guy would wanna come back to Perth when you've lived in Sydney

Sydney no thanks. Lived there once - that was enough!

Personally I totally agree. But I reckon young footballers making plenty of money love it..not an easy task to lure them back to Perth.

like I said a few posts up they have a stacked team right now, losing a few probably wont impact too much(depending on who they lose) but they will get high draft picks for them and get to spread their talent over a few more years

Throw in a premiership window that will stay open for years on end, who wouldn't want to stay.

I know a lot of people have loved barracking for both the expansion teams of late, but I wonder how quickly the tide will turn when they start dominating the league. I enjoyed watching them play the past few years but Sydney and an improving Richmond are big scalps, I hope our boys don't take them for granted

None of the Lions rate Polec at all, it's interesting. Probably just jaded about him leaving.
Apparently they aren't missing anyone because they're all spuds who couldn't crack the 22, except for Yeo.

Things will even out in time..I'm so over Hawthorn Geelong Sydney etc..I don't mind a changing of the guard and a good shake up. As long as we get back on top where we bloody belong.

Will there be a GC v GWS grand final before we see a Derby grand final?

Derby grand final seems more likely since our premiership window is still open, whilst GWS are a few years away from seriously contending for a flag. I think there's a good chance there could be a western derby or showdown final this year.

actually if you compare the two I think GWS will be the better team of the two, yeah GC midfield will be unstoppable. but GWS Forwardline is just as unstoppable too.

Forward line of Patten, Cameron, Boyd who I see as being possible the best forwardline ever.
Midfield of Whitefield, Ward, Congilo, Scully, Green, Sheils, Treloar is good.
Defense of Davis, Shaw, Hunt ok there defence is a little shaky but easy to fix with a few back flankers.

now Goldcoast
Forwardline is a little weak, Sam Day, B Matera T Lynch, maybe N Bock but I thought he was a defender and Dixon. not superstars like GWS will be.
Midfield Ablett, Benell, Swallow, O'meara, Martin, Prestia, Rischitelli, Kade Kolodjashnij top draft pick of last year, what can you say.
Defense Rory Thompson, not much else pretty average actually.

close call but right now Id say GWS have more of a team in place. GC have ???? over there Forwardline and Defense mainly their just a super midfield and not much else,

Agree with this and will add that Tom Boyd will be a superstar fwd ..

I think it was more attitude with Polec when he was at the Lions, didn't want to put in the work required and add in some injuries and homesickness and he just didn't want to be there. Is thriving being back home and a new outlook on things.

I was at the ground for GWS/Swans and there was no place for minnows like Masten. Tackle bags need to be a big fixture of our training.

Results on the weekend pretty good for our finals chances you'd think:

- pies - real risk of missing; and we face them twice
- freo - lock for top 4
- sydney - should be top 8 but top 4 no certainty
- gws - we should still beat them home
- gold coast - we should still beat them at home, round 23 away will be tough though
- tigers - loss obviously hurts their top 8 chances
- blues - don't think they'll make the 8
- port - think they'll be in the 8, quality performance

best guess at the 8

1 - 2: Hawthorn, freo
3 - 5: Geelong, Sydney, Port
6 - 9: eagles, crows, tigers, north
10 - 14: blues, pies, bombers, dogs, suns
15 - 18: demons, giants, lions, saints

Both have scary midfield talent, but then so does Port.

How have they capitalised on their down period, in terms of midfield draftees, trades and retention and we have not?

Boak, Ebert, Wines, Hartlett, Polec, Wingard (part time) and Impey (part time), looks pretty fierce. Heck it nearly stacks up to the expansion sides on the basis of raw talent.

Boak - Pick 5
Wines - Pick 7
Hartlett - Pick 4
Wingard - Pick 6
Polec - Was a Pick 5
Ebert - Was a Pick 13

That's how you assemble a top end midfield, make the most of your high end draft picks and be lucky enough to have a few others fall into your lap cheaper than what they were originally worth.
