Any thoughts on Kurt Tippett? Has been out of form a bit lately, but I always felt he performed better as the number 1 target at FF. he slipped when Buddy came in and became the key target.

He is on his last year of contract at Sydney next year for approx 750k. He is 27.

Maybe we could offer Sydney pick 1 and 2 for Tippett and Jetta.
Absorb Tippett's salary but offer him a four year deal. 500k per year. So really an additional 1.25m over 3 years.

We also have the option of chasing Luey as a FA. This enables us to shop Clarke around.

Tippett has a contract apparently worth $975k in 2016, I really don't think any club is going to be willing to take him at that price.

Tippett is the best Forward/Ruck in the AFL.

http://hurlingpeoplenow.tumblr.com/...t-tippett-is-the-best-ruck-forward-in-the-afl

Averaged the same amount of goals as Pavlich this year while still averaging more hitouts per game than Zac Clarke.

In 2015 Kurt Tippett is elite in a relatively rare, difficult, and much misunderstood role. The second ruck/forward is one of the most structurally bound positions in football and is very difficult to produce elite numbers in. Such a player’s contribution is not simply what the ruck-forward directly contributes, which is still plenty, it’s his impact on other aspects of the team.

In supporting a single workmanlike ruckman, a player such as Tippett reduces the burden on the team as a whole of maintaining ruck contest competitiveness. Tippett eliminates the need for a second pure ruckman, or for driving a sole ruck like Pyke or Nankervis to absolute exhaustion and injury, or for simply sacrificing ruck competitiveness altogether and compensating elsewhere as Geelong and the Bulldogs have attempted.
Anyone who doesn't want him is crazy.

I think Tippett works best when he is the only target and Reid works best when is isn't the primary target.

Unfortunately one is more like what we will need post Pav and thats the one I like least as an option.

He went the pick right after Clayton Collard.

Then again I highly doubt the mercenary would have stayed here anyway when we were shit.

Think GWS would accept a swap of Zac Clarke for Cam McCarthy? Maybe offer them our first rounder and swap with their second rounder?

Could allow us to throw some cash at Charlie Dixon as a Free Agent, too? Forward-line complete for next ten years.

How much money does Zac Clarke want? GWS have been signing a lot of high profile players so far this season, they might not have the cap room for him.

Dixon is not a free agent.

Disappointed that Cam isn't playing this week, would have loved for Mcpharlin to get in his ear about moving west ;)
He actually hasn't played against us yet. I remember listening to his rising star nom interview and he was saying how "surreal" it'll be when he plays against us and against his heroes in Pav and Fyfe. Guess he will either have to wait til next year or just join us to play alongside his favourite players :p

It would take an absolute ton more in trade currency to get McCarthy then Clarke and even our first round pick alone. If people are serios about a trade than you would have to add a quality player at least to the trade. Clarke hasnt played consistently good football for two years nearly and there would have to be serious questions that he is not still hindered by his knee.

Fact is Tippett is averaging nearly 2 goals a game while spending 30-40% of his time in the ruck. Nobody else in the AFL is even close.
It seems that every key forward in the AFL apart from about six forwards is rubbish if you read this thread. Interestingly with the salary space and trade restrictions Tippet is actually a more attainable than the likes of Mcarthy and Hogan in terms of being a realistic (rather than a pipe dream trade target) . The irony of this entire thread is that to recruit the players who people want us to trade for someone like Neale or Hill would have to be thrown into the trade. Tippet has a couple of flaws, but is definitely one of the better tall forwards in the whole comp, yet no one here wants him. Strange indeed.

The thing is that there's no way Sydney would trade him. Given they only have 1 accomplished ruckman in Pyke, Tippett is probably the most important person in their side, structurally.

Tippett is the player that every club in the AFL needs, he's the only Ruckman in the AFL who would get a game purely as a key forward even if he couldn't ruck, and as a ruckman he's not too bad either, wins his fair share of hitouts.

Having Tippett allows you to run 3 genuine key tall forwards in the team without sacrificing anything, which would stretch any defense.

If you were picking an All-Australian side that actually had to play against another AFL team, you'd pick Tippett as your backup ruck every time, knowing that he'd only be rucking for about 25% of the game and spending the rest of the time forward.
