Not wine expert at all but I've heard some people only buy blind skins (is that the correct term - without a label) for that reason.
'clean' skins & they usually use a brown paper bag around the bottle.

Btw, the rankings often are not in order of price.

Bigfella its rare I disagree with you - but on this occasion I disagree. Be-littling or 'tearing someone down', IMO is usually done to big-note yourself, make yourself look and feel better (usually publically) when you probably lack confidence in your own position. Sanders can decide whether or the cap fits - I'm not judging there.

The bottom line is this sort of constant unpleasant be-littilng of other posters drives other posters away and discourages them from participating in the conversation. And given that diverse, lively discussion is the life-blood of online forums maybe its time that a few posters here lift their game in this respect and recognise that we can all learn from diverse opinions. Just my thoughts and others are welcome to disagree. Oh and Happy Christmas BTW. :)
You too mate, Merry Christmas. No issue with you disagreeing - go hard.

I'm concious of Sanders style and have moderated it when I've felt it's necessary. People are usually more than happy to engage and debate with him. If they are not happy to do so they will report and move on surely? Or perhaps, just perhaps, they enjoy the debates?

I dunno. I'll fully admit to be biased to his view point but empathetic to both sides of most debates he gets involved with. I was interested in his contributions here. I also would appreciate if he put up more, doesn't make him wrong when he questions the veracity of other people's arguments though. I very very very rarely receive reports on his posts. Sure the condescending tone can be annoying - my view is, put up better arguments and grow from it. Don't sook and stop posting because of it.

If people just want to come here and post and have their contirbutions fawned over - that doesn't really excite me much in all honesty.

I'd say sanders behaviour towards some of hte posters here has been no worse than some of the posters behaviour to the port supporter who got involved. You want to give it - you can damn well sit there and take it ;)

I prefer the wicked wings over the traditional fried chicken.

Also tend to think the KFC in Adelaide is the best in the world. Certainly better than any region of France, Spain, Italy and in particular California...........

shits on canadian crap. wicked wings quality. Well quality when you're looking for greasy mess :p

If we want to keep this board healthy, then there is a minimum level of behavior needed to encourage posters to participate without fear of being attacked.

Regular belittling of posters has stopped some good posters from visiting our board as they once did. There is really no benefit from this behaviour except stroking ones ego. Do we really want to lose posters for this reason?

The beauty of forums are posters have different opinions. Opinions are not necessarily right or wrong - something which is lost on some. The bigfooty rules requires posters to be respectful... But some clearly break this on regular occasions.

Sanders has been wrong on many occasions - but who hasn't as we are nearly all in that boat at some stage! The difference is when he has been caught out, he attacks the other poster relentlessly rather than just admitting he got it wrong.

I have watched numerous times the self appointed bullshit police has called out another poster who has made a legitimate post. He plays a game of bluff - it can't possibly be true, when in fact it has been. The posters who regularly bullshit catch themselves out most of the time - it doesn't need someone to belittle then in public.
I had no reports from this exchange.

But alot of participation.

If you see something you feel is out of line - report it and move on.

Did you have an issue with the exchange on wine?

Probably no reports but when I first started their was definitely some bullying by some posters who seemed to have an alliance that if one started they all did. Thats faded now and while they still post tend not to be as harsh. But certainly for a while unless you had a thick skin it was like a few posters went out of their way to make any newbie feel unwelcome.

I personally try and make sure new folk don't get torn up - what is really required though is for other posters who see such behaviour to report it so it can be looked at. Don't see everything. Apologies - just don't have time for it.

This was a few seasons ago now. So don't feel bad. Im just saying a forum can be intimidating anyway but a few make it worse. But in regard to the complaints now I can certainly side with how Kane and Co can feel at times. There arguments aren't without merit that's for sure.

So here is Sanders entry to the discussion:

Surely you're not saying they are all equal?

That's a fairly controversial view.

Could you give some examples to illustrate?

Sounds like an urban myth

What "at the 2015 awards" are you talking about?

which high end Californian wines have you tried that disappointed you?

Not particularly.

What makes them the awards, and what relationship or conclusions are you trying to draw in comparison against a private tasting of the finest wines in the world, held by the most eminent experts of the day? something that has been repeated many times since with consistent results.

Also as far as I was aware the very best wines don't enter things like the decanter awards.

i guess I'm just wondering what experience you're drawing on to make these sweeping comments? Given how expensive Californian is, and how little is available in Adelaide, I wouldn't have imagined someone who prides himself on finding bargains in the $15 range, and never above $40, would have much experience in this field where the prices of the best stuff is many multiples of that.

Could be wrong, but wouldn't mind hearing of your first hand experiences :thumbsu:

Not unfair question I wouldn't have thought?

Nothing terribly belittling there I wouldn't have thought? Did any post here deserve moderating? Is it disrespectful?

Did you read the initial post that was replying too? Helps to have context!
Totally agree mate - I didn't have an issue with it. But its far more belittling than anything Sanders posted until he asked you to read the information he had provided. Which, as he pointed out, was probably clear you hand't given you were talking about 1976, not 2006.

At that point it was just 2 guys refusing to back down IMO. Not one. Do you honestly see it differently?

Cmon toughen up people, Sanders is harmless and often has an interesting point of view.

Flaming on forums is a dying art. The good flame throwers don't need to be correct in order to practice the art well. Just remember it's the reaction received that measures their talent, not the educational outcome.

I felt no need to report as this behaviour as nothing extreme rather borderline.

As you would be aware I have reported posts in the past by different posters when I feel it has gone way over the top. Mostly these have been attacks on others not me.

I see it as one refusing to acknowledge the others opinion and refusing to back down while the other is trying to create a logical argument which I think a majority can see he created easily.

I had no issue with his posts towards me... Rather one of his posts towards another poster was borderline... But things didn't get completely out if hand so we move on...

As I mentioned before there was 1 post not towards me that clearly upset a poster & was borderline.

My comments on the belittling is more about his regular posting style, which sometimes deliberately sets out to get under the skin of posters. Is that healthy for this board? We have lost quality posters posting regularly due to this type of behavior. Is this what we want?

I'm happy to move on. I'm also happy for all of us to learn something from the discussion given its the offseason and people seem to want to discuss it.
Happy to spend the effort to put it into another thread if it's distracting.
