Yep i'm having second feelings about this, but im going to role with it for a while.

But here is how im reasoning it to myself:

He is 30, with the emergence of O'Meara, Swallow, Prestia, Bennell, and Martin, maybe he will start seeing a little less time in the midfield than previously and a bit more time up forward to try and extend his career.

They brought in Hallahan which adds the big body, and Rischitelli is the experience.

So maybe, just maybe, Ablett doesn't need to be as dominant this year. :$
I heard exactly the same arguments twelve months ago.

Agreed. But do you think Jelwood has a bit more upside in him than Pendles? I do.

I do too, but I might be biased.

If Swan steps up then Pendles should be able to continue, if not he might have a little added attention now that Beams is gone. Doubtful it will make a big difference, but maybe enough to allow Selwood to move ahead.

I think the issue is not only the weakness it will undoubtedly create across your other lines but also the lack in money making potential, the midfield always has the best rookies and missing out on 3,4 or 5 of those could be the difference between ending up with a team filled to the brim with premos on all lines or still having an "almost" fill M8, D6 or F6. Its brave but I think you should probably look at all the effects of such a stacked midfield other than pure scoring potential

You have a point. However, looking through the lists this year there is plenty of good cash cows in both defence and the forward line.

I dont like spending 200K on first year players regardless of how good people say they are (Look at Martin and Kelly last year), so Petracca, de Goey and Brayshaw are out for me.

And given the movement or emergence of experienced (at least with pre seasons) players in the forward (Krackuer, Hogan, Clark, Blease, Markworth, KP, Saad, Membrey, Salem, Apeness or even Sylvia) and back line (Dick, Johnson, WhiteX, Hamling, J. Kolodjashnij, A. Pearce, Clurey, N. Brown) who are all under 200K

Plus the rookies that are there are there as well, in the forwards (Lambert, Daniel, Steele, Laverde) and in the backs (Goddard, Cordy, Rainbow, Sharenberg, Lever), im seeing plenty of value there.

Most of the teams so far im seeing are running with alot of those DPP players through the midfield anyway, with a combination of Clem Smith, Freeman, Kavanagh, Atkin, Heeney, Van Berlo or guys over the 200K mark with the hopes one will be this years Tyson (O'rouke, Cripps) or a Wines (De Goey, Brayshaw) filling in the gaps.

Last year, McDonald, Taylor, Kolodjashnij, Langford, Langdon, Impey and Bontempelli were all great non mid rookies, and comparable to Aish, Dunstan and Billings (not many other first year mids went the distance last year).

The best mids are ones with a bit of experience who are going to break into the side, how many fall into that category this year that I havent already listed.

Johnson like in Alex hes coming back from knee injury he wont play very much seeing his done 3 knees.Pity he can play.

Ahh yes, forgot about the 4th knee reco late last year.

Beams basically didn't play in 2013 and it didn't worry Pendles in terms of SC.

One year they will be right :p
LOL. This is true, and no doubt there will be a stack of people saying I told you so :)

But Swan was up and running then, if Swan finds his feet again this year all will be well. Otherwise Pendles may have a little bit of extra attention.

If I hold steady, and this is the year, we can re-visited this topic at the end of the season, as I would be more than happy to heap praise upon myself :p

Despite this Pendlebury has a higher average meaning that he more consistantly scores a higher score than Jelwood, this is particularly important if you are going for overall as the average score is more important than the ability to score big week to week, but it depends if you are going for league or overall I guess

Selwoods best season was 2013 when he lost to Ablett by 1 vote in the brownlow. He averaged 118 that year. Pendles had a down year this year and still averaged 124. I'm not sure of exact stats but I just think Pendles game is more suited to SC

If you had Jelwood as captain in his monster games it may change a bit.
fwiw I'm going neither

Fyfe yes certainly
maybe only 1 of the 700k+ boys
maybe neither

So you could potentially start without Ablett, Rocky, Selwood or Pendles. That would be an interesting way to start off the year.

Contested possies and tackles. That's sc gold my friend!
But what is SC diamonds is the crazy disposal efficiency and high number of chain scores that pendlebury brings. Considering that last year was a bad one by his sc standards and he still averaged 124 I know who I will take of the two

Joel Selwood
2013:
Contested Possessions 48.8% - Disposal Efficiency 77.1% - TOG% 83.7%

2014:
Contested Possessions 50.4% - Disposal Efficiency 76.2% - TOG% 86.1%

Make of this what you will.
